[blockquote]I don't see why we would do a World War II setting. We could do it, it would be fine. Like, let's go assassinate Hitler. But really? I know everyone's asking for a Japanese Assassin's Creed but I've been talking to some Japanese people and they're like, 'Don't do it. We do our own historical thing.' I've been fighting a lot saying it's not going to be a ninja, but then I'm like, why not? But I ask myself, how many games can we make in World War II? That's maybe the only [setting] I'd say is not interesting to me.[/blockquote]

Alright, something on here truely annoyed me. It's the part about the reasoning a Japanese AC. So what if the people you ask don't like the idea. It's not like Japan has copyrights to all games that involve Japanese history or anything like that. Hell, I'm sure if you asked certain people, they'd not have liked the original Assassin's Creed set in the Middle East. If the setting is interesting, and the fans would like it, go for it, right?
Dude, totally.

I'm really groaning about the idea of a WW2 Assassin's Creed. We've already got a bazillion games in WW2, even some 3rd person games like The Sabotuer.
I do understand why they wouldn't make a Japanese AC from a story perspective, since Desmond has no asian heritage (that we know of), tho I don't see the problem with following another protagonist, even just partially. My question is that why would the Japanese be so against it? On top of the fact that there's barely any fuedel japanese-based games and the fact that as a game company, they can do whatever they like to please their fans, the game engine and realistic style would really suit an assassin-in-japan game.

Just please Ubisoft, for the love of god let us CROUCH!!

The part of history that actually would make sense in the timeline would be around the French revolution, plenty of opportunities for assassination there and intrigues around every corner. Much easier setting to incorporate church and templars activity too. American civil war came 100 years later.
Never thought of that one, and now that I think about it that would work realy well.
The English Civil War would work as well. A fair chunk of that was based around people fighting based on religion and the monarchy, so it makes sense that church-based groups would want to have a say.

It's unfortunate that they made another AC in the same setting as another, I was hoping that the series would go from one time perioid to another every iteration. I suppose they wanted to save money and time by recycling the textures and models from AC2.

How about a all encompassing plot point?
Both Altair and Ezio say they don't know why they're such good assassins.
What if Desmond is ACTUALLY CONTROLLING THEM ALONG WITH EVERY ASSASSIN EVER?
Seen as they're all linked by bloodline, technically Desmond could have access to the lot.
That would be rather interesting! And kinda explains how whatsherface at the end on AC2 speaks directly to Desmond, because she's had contact with him later in his timeline, while he is controlling an Assassin from her time?
Man, way to mess with your head, it's getting a bit 'back to the future' in here.

Still, not as complicated as the timeline of Legacy of Kain.

Oh you.

I think it's a-given that Assassin's Creed games end on off-the-wall cliffhangers. Fortunately, they're kind to their fanbase. I'm sure there'll be enough information to learn an alternate history of the entire world.

How you guys been to the Assassin's Creed wikia lately? It's insanely awesome retarded cool.

"Don't do it. We do our own historical thing"

Followed by:

"And make games about fat, lazy Americans like people who buy games. But it's ok, because you are a fat, lazy, Canadian not American or British who are fat and lazy too."

So they get to decide where our games are set now? I'd put it in Japan or have the Assasins be a part of the Manhatten Project just to piss them off and say, "We do want we want, not you."

I really think somewhere in the Revolutionary War era would be pretty cool. Guns were more common but still not as deadly as they would be in World War 2. An assassin that uses mostly melee to his advantage would probably be better in that era then the era with MG42s.

WW 2? Nooooo!
WW 1 not even.

Why set it in a war anyway?
Maybe BEFORE one, so you can assasinate enemy big wigs before the actual war?
It's a game about assasinating people, not a shooter!
I think they should set it in Communist Russia just before they get involved in the war, maybe even have one or two levels set in the battle near the end of the game.
Yeah, that sounds good!
Stalin killed tons of his own generals and other political opponents, so that's a lot of assassinating going on. And it's a FRESH setting, opposed to WW2 game #672 :)

I'm pissed at this logic of infinite cliffhangers. It can't even classify as a story in my head, if they add needless bridging to some other elements and blast one end open. To be continued later in 2012 or something... sucks.

Hitler WAS assassinated by an Assassin though. This is already fact in the AC universe.
He was? I don't remember that... eh, whatever, I'll take your word for it (was it one or two that spoke of it? I'll eventually get around to replaying the one where the info is).

WWI would be interesting. I'd hate to write the game for them, but you assassinate arch-duke ferdinane, which sets off the war, then unde rthe cover of the war one side tries getting there hands on an artifact. And I'm sure there would be some thing about you in the trenches. I'd play it, for the fact it would be one of the few WWI games.

OT:
John, thats so wrongly biased. Why can't you just let the 5 people who actually likeAC series be? (Note that includes myself, and I'm not trying to say anything, its just not a "mainstream" series.)

Altair is just another loudmouth to me. Indeed, I was too poor to get that running on PC, Assassins Creed 1&2 were beyond me. Sadly I thought that a problem, playing that linear screen-shaker with ... if crusaders would be THAT EASY to kill, then the crusades would have not happened, because European robbers (2 suffice by that cheat-system of muslim supremacist propaganda)would have killed ALL crusaders in just three or four weeks.

The game shows 2 things, besides very nice graphics:

1.) It shows a lot of potential, which is strangulated in a certain linearity and lacks replay-value in my opinion.

2.) It shows what inexperienced people are called professionals these days.

Further, since Thief-Deadly Shadows... a certain social blame that such games drill us all to become real world murderers haunts through the media...

I (see My Pious path of Murder.pdf) won't shun that, I am more afraid to become as stupid and loudmouthed, as that punk Altair. Not pranking here.

That...is a wonderful idea. The best blend of swords and guns around, and there's that whole uprising thing that the AC universe loves to have about. We could even get some period enlightenment clothing, and Desmond's ancestor could watch the revolutionary crowds, incite them up as a big distraction, then go and scratch a name off of his list. That sounds much better than the American civil or World War 2. World War one, on the other hand, has plenty of opportunities for some cheeky backstabbery...
I've always loved the idea of the French revolution as a setting. You still get the beautiful backdrop of the French cities and countryside, as well as the turbulent political situation. Especially the Terror, with people getting guillotined left right and center.

I think that the next Assassin's Creed should be in Victorian England... Maybe have Jack the Ripper in there somewhere?
Maybe Desmonds relative is Jack!

I dunno, I agree with Victorian, but more steampunk heavy, or French Revolution..

I'm for a Japanese based setting, but only if it's during the Bakumatsu era. And you weren't a generic ninja! Japan didn't only have ninjas for their assassinations!
