Avatar fan site, 'Avatar Forums' contains a thread titled 'Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible', which in itself contains nearly 1,000 posts.

I got a post for them and it goes something like this.

IT IS A GODDAMN MOVIE!

I wish I could slap the shit out of everyone who sees this goddamn movie and has the nerve to get depressed about it.

Another problem with you train of thought is I can do this with it:

"And why not kill them off, they're a bunch of stupid paddys and they did not want us on Irish soil which is why they were attacking us English and the Irish were refusing to comply so"

Ireland was a backwards country and totally inferior to British might. I mean by your logic I shouldn't even bother talking to someone of your background. Fuck peace talks we should have just had a full out invasion once you had the audacity to rebel and if that failed, well its nuke time!

Do you agree with this?
The movie is full of loopholes, we should have easily.
Moving on to your Ireland and England reference:
From your point of view yes.
But as I met mentioned before it's an "us and them" outlook, the British wanted Ireland's resources, I can understand that but I would still be angry.
The main thing however is that it was Humans versus Humans in that case while in the movie it was Humans versus Aliens.
I care far less when it's us against another race, why should I care about another race?
I may not appreciate his example but Zac Dai is right in the way that "us and them" has been used to justify killing too many poeple just because their different from us. The "us and them" was part of the English occupation of Ireland, for them they believed that they had the right to control our land because of military superiority. Demented you have to appreciate that it wasn't that long ago that people thought of any culture that wasn't theirs was alien and should be destroyed.
"Surivial of the fittest"
and in this case it's a bunch of primitive aliens, why should we care whether they live or die or what we do to their land?

That one word change makes an argument for invasion of any country that you can see as less technologicaly advanced then yours. and the actual meaning of alien is foreigner.

Didn't seem all that special to me. Visually superb, but as a world? Meh, I think our planet is ten thousand times more varied and beautiful

Oh, and "Racist" undertones? These accusations are from the same middle-class white people who assume the "thickie" ethnics will take offense to something like this (like they assumed they would with Resident Evil 5 (though in fairness, turned out that WAS racist, but not because "there were black people in it!"))

Yes, why should you?
Because the murder of innocents is wrong, but mostly because I don't want this as an argument for someone to take over Ireland again.

to get at the unobtainium.
Seriously? they called something unobtainium? this script is even more of a joke than i initially thought.

after waiting a while before posting this, i have come to the conclusion that this rediculous name must have came forth from either a complete lack of creativity, or, an explanation a bit more likely, to make even the dumbest of audiences go: "hey! i get the metaphor, i must be sooo smart!"

The above might be a slight hint suggesting i do not really like the movie, which is true, but to be honest i must say i have not seen the movie, and my not liking it originates from me thinking it focusses too much on the special effects and the story being far from original.

No-one is innocent and some people get in the way.
Ok no-one is innocent, but very few people deserve to die. Some people get in the way because they feel they must and some do by accident. Could you condemn them for those reasons.

Unobtanium is apparently a real term used by engineers to describe a material that is perfect for whatever they happen to be doing. In Avatar, it's a room temperature superconductor, which is perfect for mag lev trains, ridiculously efficient electricity, and so on.

Personally, I'm surprised that there was no mention of the game "tainting fragile minds" in the article. I guess the tables are turning on the movies now!

Well i'll admit i was alittle depressed for ONE DAY after seeing it, but it was sure as hell alot more complicated than (WAAH I CANZ NOT GOEZ THERE!) And seeing as depression runs in the genes you gotta cut these people some slack, Avatar made people think about life, and doing that will always depress you alittle.

If these people really do exist (and unfortunately they probably do), they're just another cross-section of the general insanity you find on the Internet.

Yes, modern cinema technology allows us to take the dreams of a 39-year-old unwashed basement dweller obsessed with Rescue Rangers and bring them to the next level. Progress marches on.

What?
No, no, they must be trolls. Yes, trolls. There could never be anything that stupid in this world.
