You believe anything you read? Interesting. Nice to know anyone can convince you of something so easily. Did you know I read about a man that caught Big Foot? Amazing, huh?

Arrested? So she is still innocent. Will be interesting to see how many people will jump on the speeding bandwagon of words as fact and forget the justice in the criminal justice system.
Actually I believe, though I could be wrong, that America has started to employ the "Guilty until Proven Innocent" clause instead. So actually it might be presumed that she's guilty now until her defence, if she goes for it, proves her innocent.

Just my two cents
They haven't. If that was the case, anyone could accuse anyone of anything and they would be assumed guilty until the conclusion of a trial -- which could take months or even years to resolve. Any country that uses that... 'legal system', if you can call it that, is barbaric and unevolved.
I hate to say this but that really isn't the case, even with a system such as that one. There is still due process; that phrase is only usable once you get into the court system. You first actually need to be charged with a crime, the police need decent enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant and they need to make sure they have enough evidence to hold their case in court.

Really the phrase isn't any different from the other one, except now its you defending your innocence, rather than the prosecution proving your guilt

OT: Terrible story though, she wasn't fit to be a parent.
But she is fit to "chop, saute and bake her way to the top of the culinary world". On Facebook.

Just like Mr.Chibz. In a nursery.

New technology doesn't have any bearing on bad parenting. You really think that there weren't babies falling into ponds and drowning during pioneer times? If a parent is going to be distracted from their child then they're going to do it whether it's talking to someone or internet or a book or taking a nap or whatever. Facebook, while annoying, is not to blame here, she is.

If you're a parent and you leave your 1 year-old baby alone in a bathtub full of water...YOU'RE A BAD PARENT!
Fixed. Doesn't matter what you're doing, you NEVER leave a 1 year old child alone when there's something that can harm them.

Why do you pull the same straw man for every single thread that has some sort of legal background to it? It's not like they're charging her with murder. They're charging her with negligence, and she admitted to neglect.

She admitted to leaving the child alone in the affidavit as a pattern of behavior. A jury is deciding whether or not they determine it a criminal offense, not whether or not she did it. That's in writing.

Wow. Hate is such a strong word when used in it's proper context instead of used as a flipant remark which I don't think was your intended use.
Why hate babies? You are either seriously warped and disturbed or just a pathetic ignorant person who hates on something he can never have himself.
With that attitude I do hope for the sake of humanity you never procreate.
It's not a matter of not being able to have one. I just don't see their purpose. I see them as a drain on the person who they "Belong" to while providing zero benefits. I don't like a thing about them, or them themselves. It's just almost biologically hardwired into our brains to be mesmerized by their "cuteness". It doesn't work with me.

If I were to adopt (I'd never do the baby thing) it'd be a child already past that awful state. Past being a larva.

I hope she remembered to update her status with "Drowned my Baby.".

"Preternaturally independent?" Wow, what a load of crap. Probably means the poor thing was neglected A LOT.

She'll live with that for the rest of her life. I'm glad I'm not on that jury, I would have a difficult time deciding which way to vote.

That's right people, it has happened again.

34-year-old Shannon Johnson has been arrested after telling police officers that the reason her one-year-old son drowned in a bathtub several months ago is because she was busy playing a game on Facebook and left him to bathe unsupervised.
Hang the wench.

Justice done.

This is why we can't have Facebook, people. It seeds and rewards irresponsibility.
Really? I use Facebook on a daily basis and I'm no more irresponsible than I was. Please don't generalize; not everyone who uses Facebook are the kind you read about. Although there are a fair amount of dicks on it...

Anyway, that is sad news. He couldn't live his life because his guardian was too busy doing something else of a lesser value and because of her irresponsibility.

She is a bad parent and should be ashamed.

Agree with Ethan, its usually farmville. Still neglecting children over these lame-ass facebook games?
Its sad and pathetic and something else i can't quite find the distasteful word to discribe it.
Would it make sense to say that if she was playing a game like I don't know, Half-Life or Bioshock, it wouldn't be as bad?

Because that's what I'm reading right now. Sure we can all agree that most facebook games are terrible but if it was a gaming masterpiece that would still be just as bad.

Wow...

I'm sorry but a one year old is too young to be in a damn tub full of water! That's why you have those mini ones that can fit in the sink! Even then, you don't fucking leave them alone! They can barely sit up straight!

Hell, I have 2 nephews that are 4 years old and their bath water stops at their legs and we check at 60 second intervals.

The saddest part was that he was probably still alive if she'd thought to try and give him baby CPR or something. (I assume by the gurgling) Maybe the lady didn't know how...

What I wanna know is what made her admit it after all this time. Guilt? The kind that was driving her insane? Or was she afraid they'd find out on their own?

It's /kinda/ good though. This means more people with respect for the addicting powers of internet will survive and produce the next generation.

But she's still a complete idiot.

See, Facebook is worse for the population than videogames.

How often do you hear about babies dying because their mother was playing videogames?
It's always Facebook, or FarmVille or something.
FarmVille is a videogame
