What a irresponsible and idiot parent.

I'd think once you have a child of your own, no matter what, your attention should always be on the child. She should have some self-control before going onto Facebook and play a game.

Hey, I don't like children and will likely never have one of my own. But holy hell, isn't having a child a big thing in someone's life? Also what is this "preternaturally independent" crap? Babies can't even look after nor think for themselves. Hell, they can't even sit upright yet. I can't completely judge this woman based on what I've read, still my impression on her is that she's dumb and has no sense of responsibility whatsoever.

Back when my mother was taking care of my sisters and me, she was really tempted to use the computer in the house. But she knew she needed to care for us and therefore decided to not use it. She sacrificed her free time to look after us. She could have neglected us and used the computer or go out shopping.

This woman took that long to admit all this? She shouldn't have children at all.

See, Facebook is worse for the population than videogames.

How often do you hear about babies dying because their mother was playing videogames?
It's always Facebook, or FarmVille or something.
FarmVille is a videogame
No its not, its a clicking simulator.

Arrested? So she is still innocent. Will be interesting to see how many people will jump on the speeding bandwagon of words as fact and forget the justice in the criminal justice system.
It's a goddamn police report! What are you insinuating here? The police actually falsified the report and her admittance to guilt? BASED on the facts (her statement in the police report), I'd have to lean on the side of guilt due to neglect. One isn't guilty because a jury said so, neither is one innocent. Facts prove this, not a judicial bureaucracy.

I don't really count FarmVille as a videogame. It's more of an application.

Where else would we get our politicians from?

A mother left her child unattended in bath while doing something else. The baby drowned for that.

Facebook has nothing to do with this. Her attention could've been caught by a movie, match or a book, for that matter. Just a mention of Facebook and it's a piece of news, worth of attention.

The main thing here is that she left a baby unattended in an environment where she definitely shouldn't have.

Well, normal Darwinism would fit better here, but still not too well. If it had been her that had drowned in the tub rather than the kid then yeah it would be Darwinism. But semantics are pretty moot seeing as she's still guilty and neglectful and the baby is still dead.

Well, I hope she gets thrown in jail with a fitting sentence. I also hope that Facebook games don't get the blame, that'll just lead to normal games getting the blame and any idiot can tell it was her dumbass fault for the kids death.

I hope the mother is let off, yes it was a stupid mistake, but the mother has to live with the knowledge she killed her and the fathers baby, she's not going to make that mistake again.
I think the law gets involved too often when the biggest punishment has already been given, losing her child. If it happens again then yes shes a horrible mum, but people make mistakes, and its not like it was intentional or she left him in there for an hr or day, it was 10 mins, small amount of time that people could consider reasonable esp if she was close by.
I would never leave my child in a bath alone, but neither do I think we need to prison a women and ruin her life over a mistake that she will already pay for far worse by herself.

And this is why there should be a "Parental Test" before people are allowed to have children. That way stupid people die off and people with atleast something behind their forehead take over the planet, making it a better place.

Ah well, tragic story anyhows. Cant imagine the feeling of loss for ones child's death.

For the simple reason of more people knowing more about and actually using Facebook, so there'll be a broader audience for the news, acquiring more attention. It also stimulates for discussion about the addictiveness of Facebook and especially the games there. It doesn't matter if you like them or not, they're still video games.

No it wouldn't, she's already had a child, the cycle is complete and her spawn is already out in the world even if she dies.
I was unaware of that. Let's hope to God that this kid has appropriate priorities.

I agree a fair bit. She probably won't be going to prison for a huge amount of time now anyway, she's not being charged with Manslaughter here, only neglect, and while that's still obviously very serious she won't spend 20 years of her life in prison....I htink.

(snip) She checked on him once, over a course of 10 minutes, saying it was justified because she felt "her son was preternaturally independent, and simply wanted to be alone."
I think she got the Teenage phase and the "eats, cries, sleeps" phase confused. Of course it's just an excuse. A fucking pathetic one.

OT: I say put her in jail......or worse (for her), ban her from facebook. She deserves to be miserable.

That's sad. I don't remember being left "alone" to bathe for more then a few seconds up until I was three, and even then my brother had seizures so I had to bathe with him incase my parents were out of the room and something happened. Although I had a tendancy to slip under the water and had to bathe with this ring thing, so my brother was also watching out for me too.
