Be Honest, what did you think of QTE's when you first encountered it?

I think the first experience I had with QTEs was the force unleashed, I loved it, mercically beating the crap out of a rouge jedi, good times. I still like them and I don't see what the big problem with them is.

My first QTE was in a awesome hack and slash for the Dreamcast called Sword of Berserk Gut's Rage. Very few of it's quick time events were instantly fatal, mostly they just made the game harder by changing the path you took through a level.

My first GTE thought: Wait did i just die? Huh, that must be one of those "quick time events" that everyone liked a few years back. They are harder then I thought.

I think for me it was Mercenaries 2. The first Mercenaries didn't have them, and when I first went to hijack something, I remember thinking "Wait, what?" Never have liked 'em much

My first was probably God of War, though I can't say for certain. Either way when I see a QTE in general I just go "Okay, I have to press this" and that's about it. I don't necessarily hate them, though I absolutely love the way Heavy Rain has implemented them (I've played the demo, looks awesome).

Isn't that kind of the idea? :V
not what i meant by it T.T. the QTE´s against her (Dante´ Inferno) are just so annoying, since they are all done with the left c. stick and some of the movements you have to do with it are very long compared to the fact that you have about 0.3 seconds for each one.

I think the first time I encountered a QTE I was watching a cut scene and died, got a game over screen and back tracked about 2 hours, thinking, "what the fuck!"

The second time I got there I saw the button flash at the bottom, but I missed it so died again, luckily only losing 5 minutes, the third time I went through it thinking "what a bloody stupid idea this is"

I think my first one was in RE4. It went a bit like this.

"Oh, wow, that's a big boulder. Run Leon, ru-WHAT I HAVE TO SHAKE THE WII REMOTE

WHATWHATWHATWHAT OH DAMMIT LEON DON'T GET SQUISHED"

Okay, Dragon's Lair and other FMV Games (and the like) don't really count. "Quick Time Event" suggests that it's just a quick event that comes in between other kinds of gameplay.
Does anybody actually believe this besides you? :V
It's roughly the equivalent of referring to a movie as a cutscene.
It's essentially the same tool.

I consider Dragons Lair the first QTE game I played. The whole thing was QTEs but that doesn't change the nature.

And honestly I was tolerable of them back then because the controller consisted of one stick and one button and it was the only game that looked like a cartoon. Now all the games look like cartoons and the controller has a dozen buttons and two sticks.

QTEs should be obsolete but for every Fallout 3 that tries to pull away from it there's a Heavy Rain to pull us back.

I first encountered them with Shenmue. I thought they were a good way to keep the player engaged in cutscenes and cinematics and make him/her feel like he is influencing the actions of the character during these times in some small way.

Of course, that's with Shenmue. Some games they don't work as well. But as a whole, I don't mind them.

When I first encountered them in Shenmue I was like "WOAH wha.....hey that was pretty cool!"

In Resident Evil 4 I was like "Oh god!....hey that's like in Shenmue, sweet!"

In Tomb Raider: Anniversary I was like "....wait seriously? I don't need that here, come on."

I don't mind them. They don't tend to appear in the games that I play that often though.

First QTE I ever came across was back on ps2, Dark Cloud has them instead of certain boss fights.

Absolutly hated them. They seemed to be a realy infuriating way to spend time, like the game was rewarding me for simply doing as it said, and seeing as at the time I had even less control over my nervous system then I do now (fast met combined with mild dispraxia) I couldn't complete the game.

For me, my first encounter (that I could recall off the top of my head, anyway) with QTE's was with Resident Evil 4. Now, being a moderate fan of the numbered RE's I thought the QTE's in that game was a good way of increasing the tension, that sense of dread while playing (it is an RE game, after all). I'll admit, dying mid-cutscene was pretty embarrassing.
RE4 was my first experience with quick time events too and that game did well with them. They could have had less impact, but well, the game was great and I enjoyed all of it. Later I had the pleasure to see it in a fair amount of games and more and more of them because "they are so cool!" They are refreshing when you first see them, but after dying 3 or 4 times because you were a bit too late pressing a button at a time you though you were safe because there was a cutscene it gets lame.
