God of War 2. You kill a several story tall colossus by tearing it hand off, carving up its face, gouging out its eye, and then finally getting a divine sword of the gods and fucking it up from the inside. Also, when you jump out, there's a huge nuclear explosion. And that's just the beginning.

Do not ask us to be nice, demand it! Or wait, that would just piss people off... Yeah, go with the question instead.

There is nothing that beats the intro to DMC 3.

"Why does Dante eat pizza when he is supposed to be out there beating de-HOLY SHIT HE JUST GOT STABBED 5 TIMES!"
Agreed! That was one of my fav intros EVER!

Warcraft III, all hands down.
Come to think of it, every single cinematic in the game was awesomeness on a whole new level.

Warcraft, Starcraft and World of Warcraft all have amazing introes and cinematics.
Mass Effect has a very cinematic feel to it, awesome way to make an intro.
The Fallout games, Ron Perlman is man.

MGS2 had a pretty good opening even if the rest of the game sucked.

Same goes for Onimusha 3.
Onimusha 3 didn't suck, at least for me anyway...

As overrated as I think this game is, I'd say Beyond Good & Evil has the best intro of any game I've played. Jumps right into the action with epic music and slow motion and everything.

Mass Effect's opening cinematic is great, too, mostly because of the music accompanying the title.

half-life2 had a good opening
"Wake up.... Mister, Free..man. Wake up... and smell the ashes". Haha, I was thinking the same.
I agree, but to be more accurate:

Rise and shine, Mr Freeman, Rise and... Shine. Not that i wish to imply you have been sleeping on the job... all the effort in the world would have gone to waste until... well, let's just say that your ... time has come again. So wake up, Mr Freeman. Wake up and... smell the ashes.
Just reading that gave me goosepimles. So damn good. And then at the very end when he's like: "Time, Dr Freeman, is it really that time again? AHHHH AWESOME!

I also liked the opening of Episode I.

Yes, that is indeed awesome, but for some reason, the Red Alert 2 version just seems cooler to me.

Seconded, RA2 just clinches it for me. But by God, the music in both of them kicks ass.

Half Life 1 because not was it ground breaking for its time but it really builds up the overall game with its detailed look at the setting.

Myth: The Fallen Lords because after a very VERY well spoken introductory narration of the story, comes an exciting animation about the trial of a messenger that unfolds the plot further.

Borderlands because it really sets the game's dark humor and style with the music and menthod of introducing the setting and characters.

Dawn of War because its cinematic is of high quality and crisp with lots of brutal and intense action that sets the mood well.

Full Throttle. I still remember the pounding heavy metal as the gang overtook the limo and jumped it, crushing the hood ornament. I also remember the slimy exchange between the two execs with the one's "destabilizing inner ear." Even after I beat it, I still played that part over and over again.

The original Halo, it's one of the best FPS campaign's ever made and when the scientists get shot by the elites and all of the explosions start to go off it was crazy.

"Well, what about Shepard?"

"War, war never changes"

"War, has changed"

oh and I liked the Left 4 Dead 2 opening montage. It got me pumped for all the zombie killing there was going to be.
