Just one game?

My vote goes to Escape From Monkey Island, and the series as a whole.
Close... Curse of Monkey Island is just pure gold. There is literally music playing the WHOLE time, and it doesn't get annoying. Plus... [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AawQvD8L_h4]

Epicest moment in Curse of Monkey Island? More like Epicest moment EVER.

Really any Castlevania music, and as much crap as it gets Tales of Legendia has an amazing soundtrack.

From the older generations I remember that Turrican, and even more so, Turrican 2 had an epic soundtrack (intro tune here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvha_2hAzq0, but do yourself a favour and get this game with a good amiga emulator and give it a go). Shadow of the Beast is definitely up there as well. There were many games on the Amiga which had outstanding tunes though. It was amazing what they managed to accomplish in Fast Tracker back then.

On the Nes, Castlevania was pretty good, but the music for Journey to Silious was easily the best game tunes on that system (fist stage tune here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjG2ZjPqzzE). However, Batman was pretty good too.

Halo, Deus Ex (I still find myself whistling the title theme sometimes, and just to annoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCk8ByyCsks ), GTA:SA (honestly, most of my memorable moments had KDST), Fallout 3, and honestly, I do like the WoW:WotLK soundtrack a ton, too.

Halo is great.
Silent Hill also has a wonderful set of scores.
Both of those.

The music from Crash Team racing and from Crash Bandicoot 3 were pure and utter brilliance.

I really like the soundtrack on Burnout 3: Takedown. So many great songs, and maybe one of the better driving games out there.

I also love the 40's music on Fallout 3. It really gets me in the mood for killing super mutants.

Titan Quest had a great soundtrack. most of the time it was peaceful and relaxing, but the boss themes are quite epic.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3, 4 and 5 all got sub-lime soundtracks (sorry for the bad yahtzee pun).

WoW has a really good soundtrack, but most of the time it cant be heard because your blowing people up.

Dawn of War: Dark Crusade has a great and epic soundtrack, althought its only about 2 themes.

so who takes the cake?

HOMM3.

Monkey Island was great for it's soundtrack and so was Grim Fandango.

I'll drop out Total Annihilation too since I enjoyed the fact that it's entire soundtrack was on the game CD in CDA format and I listened to the game disk itself for years.

Ocarina of Time. A lot of catchy tunes and some themes that went to newer games like Twilight Princess.

I've said so every previous time this thread has come up.

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. The strangest part? It's clumsily implemented in the actual racing. But when it works, it works.

All this. Halo is the best soundtrack ever.

Oh, also, this has been done so many times before, but I'll overlook that since it gives me a chance to Halo-love.
I don't even like Halo but I can stand up and admit that the Halo 3 soundtrack is amazing.

The piano-led, Celtic sounding war music is real adrenalin pumping stuff, it makes me think of Slaine going into a war spasm and wrecking shit up.

Also the slow, aching string part on the title screen is beautiful.
