Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog, REPO! The Genetic Opera, and Across the Universe for the new scale of musicals.

Les Miserables for the old hat of musicals, Javier's Suicide in particular.

Repo! The Genetic Opera and Rocky Horror, two greatest musicals ever. Also We Will Rock You if you can get hold of it.

Phantom of the Opera.

Went to see it for my girlfriend's father's birthday up in London.

Truly fantastic.

Repo: The Genetic Opera is pretty good. I like Sweeney Todd, too.

And of course, Rocky Horror Picture Show. I treasure it =p

I'm assuming you mean movie-versions, so here goes

- My Fair Lady with Rex Harrison is just great

- Man of La Mancha with Peter O'Toole, can't go wrong with Sir Peter

- Jesus Christ Superstar is bearable, the only one of Webber's to be

- Hair is great if you're into the hippie culture, but Milos Forman's version is very lackluster

- and yes, you could go for Disney: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Aristocats, Jungle Book

Behold, ladies and gentleman, the majesty that is Blood Brothers!

Failing that, close calls go to Avenue Q and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Got some other favourites, but they're my top three.
You have some FINE taste, sir! I haven't yet seen Avenue Q but the other 2 are in my top 5. Others I love are Hairspray (be aware that it will almost FORCE you to be happy, so if you're not in the mood for that kind of thing, steer clear), The Lion King (absolutely majestic) and Aida. Aida's production isn't my favourite, but the voices and the music are great. Worth a look at the Broadway OST.

Blood Brothers is my favourite though. Seen it 11 times and counting...

Edit: Now listening to Tell Me It's Not True from your YouTube link and tearing up. Thanks a lot for that!

watch clue: the musical, the rocky horror picture show (in a theater ONLY), and hedwig and the angry inch.

if you're looking for movie musicals, that is. if you're good for stage, go see the mystery of edwin drood, wicked, the addams family, the pirates of penzance (warning: operetta), and/or cosi fan tutte (opera! the best opera out there).

(this is all if you like a bit of darkness, a bit of comedy, and to be a better person in the long run.)

I cant believe no one has said this yet, but I think Fiddler on the Roof is definitely my favorite musical ever. I still have to see Wicked though, it looks quite good.

In Theater - Blood Brother, like a few years ago, no idea who was in it, but the mother character was really really good, that's all I remember.

In a Movie - South Park obviously :p It kinda wins by default though since I can't remember any others that I have seen, unless you want to count A Clockwork Orange(singing in the rain)

On an Album - Ziltoid The Omniscient! Yeeeeeeeeeessssss.

Assassins
Into the Woods
Sunday in the Park with George
Company
Merrily we Roll Along

Stephen Sondheim is the far superior choice here...leave the cut and paste musical writer, Sir Andrew, alone and go along to a more complex sound...plus Blood Brothers is good...

Oh and The Last Five Years
