The recent revival of Sweeney Todd was pretty good.
No not the movie. Though the movie was good too.
The version of the play that I saw had the actors playing their instruments, and while this was originally a way to save money for what started out as a low-budget revival in England; by the time it got to LA so that I could see it, it had become an interesting artistic decision. All of the characters were playing instruments that suited their characters... trust me, you haven't lived until you've seen a middle-aged Mrs. Lovett play a triangle in one scene and a trombone in the next.
