I fully agree with those who said GLaDOS (insane robots or computers make for such awesome sci-fi, which is why I've always liked Sharon Apple so much), Sephiroth (the guy may be a little fru-fru and wield an overcompensating sword, but he has his own LATIN CHANT), and Heihachi Mishima (Kazuya's a close second, but any pie-bald old man who's that badass and gets away with the ridiculous suits he wears gets my vote anyday).

No one's mentioning the Combine from HL2 and (sorta) the original HL. The G-Man would count, but he's too mysterious to be a villain, per se, and the Freeman never directly confronts him. As a force in general, the Combine exemplify an oppressive menace very effectively.

Still, my fav would be someone from Xenogears. Eve/Miang or Krelian would be good examples, but in the end, it's all [mild SPOILER ALERT] just Deus pulling the strings. You have to really put the ultimate weapon in the context of the game for him to be a good villain, but he's pretty awesome. He starts assimilating an entire spaceship, and he starts spamming all their monitors with "YOU SHALL BE AS GODS" over and over. Pretty creepy. Then, he basically creates intelligent life on an entire planet for thousands of years just to repair himself so he can finish devouring the cosmos. That's pretty bloody cool.

And, if we're talking movies, where's the Darth Vader love? In the original trilogy, he was an iconic force of fear, power, and mystery. He's been aped by practically every movie villain since he was invented. (note: ignore the prequel trilogy for this and all other purposes)

Robotnik and Wily, I mean sure they keep losing but they keep trying, that's gotta say something right? Plus Robotnik survived how many explosions in the devices/space stations/robots/laser cannons he was sitting in, that is one unkillable evil mastermind.

Kefka. The only villain, that I know of, to actually complete his goal.. Destroying the F$@*ing World. And as far as I'm concerned, the dude does all of this for shits and giggles.
Personally he sounds like a Joker rip off. Aside from that though I'd go with either Glados or Sovereign. Because it and it's kind have annihilated all advanced (i.e. sapient) life in the galaxy more times over than any organic brain could fathom.

Have a cookie.
Gladly *om nom nom* But seriously, the scene where Liquid unleashes his control over the system was just so...bad-ass, I always love brain over brawn villians, so liquid takes the cake for me.
You're damn right it was, Controlling the haven troopers was cool too, Liquid is badass.

I know! I actually thought he was good after the fight with Sho. And then The "Another Day" chapter with MR. H was genius. It's thew only game I've ever played where getting all the bonus material was worth it!

Yeah it's... MALAK! That's that guys name I couldn't remember that.

The last one is Shetland from Splinter Cell Chaos theory (just replayed the game and finished it yesterday lolz, and don't you hate his bombs...), the third one is the apprentice from the force unleashed right?

And no answer for the other two...

And why does it seem that Sephiroth isn't a correct answer to this thread's question to most people? Cause admit it, he has a HUGE katana. (and i love katanas)
As for you, Sephiroth's awesomeness is, in many ways, grossly overstated by the fans. That is why he is the wrong answer.

There is no better villain than the almighty Kefka

awww, that's who i was going to pick, you can't beat kefka, no ulterior motive, just pure unbridalded greed/insanity and a lust for power.

If you can name all four villains, and all four games, and also agree with me on how bad-ass they are, you shall make me very happy indeed.

LEARN YOUR STAR WARS!

It's Darth Malak from KotOR. Last is Doug Shetland, who's alright, but Sam is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler.

Agree with the Malak one though, I like the way he's always in Revan's shadow, and he does always seem like he's out to prove something.

KotOR 2's Kreia and Darth Nihilus. Kreia because she was actually RIGHT about a lot of things, and Nihilus because he's nothing. He speaks a language no-one understands, he feeds off of the force, and he acts out of necessity to simply survive. He suited the whole idea that the galaxy was broken in that game as well. Just fitted well.

"GMan"
Okay, he's not neccesarily a villan but he definitely doesnt seem to have humanities best interests at heart. His speech during HL2:EP2 was incredibly threatening, beating any other villan I've ever seen. If you want something slightly less ambiguous then Doctor Wallace Breen from the original HL2, comforting but insincere.

I hate to say it, but the group 'The7' from Kane and Lynch: Dead Men.
Think about it:
They kill your wife, put your daughter in a near death situation, betray Lynch, lead to the death of 5 of your closes friends, one of them being a member of The7, who they weren't even sure was betraying them, but they're just that paranoid, and then they possibly lead to the death of your daughter, and your inevitable path into insanity. Or, she hates you for the rest of you lives, as in: wants to kill you hate you, and make you leave Lynch to his death depending on the ending you choose.

All for a few million bucks. That's preeeety extreme.
