For sheer heaviness? I sincerely doubt that.

Still, it's nice to see another extreme metal fan around here.

Oh no, you're right, I just prefer Wormphlegm to Nivathe, Nivathe is just so crackly. Not that crackly isn't awesome when done properly, like most traditional black metal.

Oh I see, then.

And I agree, rawness is brilliant when you know what you're doing. =D

Well I can guess how this thread will end up. People will eventually star posting metal that consists mainly of horribly distorted instruments accompanied less by vocals and more by screaches and grunts generally not used in normal conversation. I mean you can only get so "hard" when it comes to music before it becomes unlistenable.

And because I can, a link to a relevant TvTropes article: Moh's Scale of Rock and Metal Hardness [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MohsScaleOfRockAndMetalHardness]!

[sub]Warning: Reading TvTropes may cause the reader to lose several hours of productive time doing so. If you experience reading secessions lasting longer than 4 hours contact your doctor immediately. Readers should not read TvTropes when opperating heavy machinery.[/sub]

Actually, Belphegor's first album is surprisingly brutal when compared to their immediate turn in direction thereafter:

What? My prediction of this thread? My Warning Label? Both?

Note: To anyone wondering why I didn't post any music the reason is that, although I enjoy several sub-genres of heavy metal, I have yet to acquire the taste needed to enjoy the stuff some of you guys are posting.

Type [ youtube=kUcFAA1dKPY ] (minus the spaces, of course).

Anyway, time for some atmospheric stuff. :D

Most metal I enjoy tends to steer clear of the "let's be brutal, overly dark, and just pure evil" death metalesque music. I do enjoy Death, Vader here and there, and a few other good bands, but when I listen to death metal I prefer November's Doom, Opeth, Novembre, etc. I like the beautiful combination of brutality with some heart thrown in there. Not to mention I'm a Blind Guardian, Falconer, Agalloch, Summoning fan...so I don't think I have what you're looking for.

Beat me to it.

Post away man, we usurped this thread, and it is now the the real metal thread. I like Falconer, though they're a bit fluty with their guitars. Blind Guardian's last album really disappointed me.

I could go for a thread like that, but you might want to make a separate one -- Death Metal is not my subgenre, but the mods frown on hijacking topics.

Edit: If you can't beat 'em, Join 'em.

And to show that I don't exclusively listen to Power Metal,
