Honest to god (God), am I the only person that does not care at all? Some video game companies only make parts of video games (i.e., Havok's physics engine). I am gonna stop there before I get trounced upon by some troll because my video game company knowledge isn't up to par.

Also. WHO CARES? They both put out good and bad video games. It's all a matter of perspective half the time. One of my friends likes Too Human and well...I never thought that was possible. The point is, it's only video game companies. No need to get bent out of shape. It's not like its a religious holy site that three Monotheistic Faiths share.

There is a point there. Somewhere.

The existence of a vs thread between Bethesda and Bioware has torn my heart this day.

You may as well watch the Wonder Twins fight to the death, watch your mother and father kill each other with machete's, force your two favorite kitties to battle in a lake of fire as you watch tied to a chair while being branded and ridiculed by that girl you really like who you thought liked you back.

It's like having your twin babies dangling over a cliff and only being able to save one. No matter what happened, the only one who lost the vs thread (which I have not looked at) is me.

It feels bad man.

*tears*

OT - I like both companies and have invested ridiculous hours into many of their fantastic games.

I wouldn't say that is always the case, i was quite taken back when dad dies in fallout 3, perhaps it was just the soothing voice of Liam Neeson which did it for me though hehe.
Liam Neeson's controlled tone was one of very few bright parts of that story.
Then again, the only time Liam Neeson has been unable lift any performance was his role in The Phantom Menace.

Either way, Dad's death in Fallout 3 only made me facepalm (and facepalm HARD) once I reached the end-game material, where one of the biggest bullshit plotholes ever reared its ugly head.

I love both of them to bits but Bethesda should make sure their third party devs have time to make games that actually work.
But Fallout 3 crashes less than Team Fortress 2 D:
OK... explain the joke to slow Miracle?

I Like both. Fallout 3 was good fun, and i clocked over a hundered hours on one of my saves before i completed it. But iI've just found Mass effect. atm, i find it a little clunky, but the story and fights are good.

People are just fucking retarded. What the hell did Bethesda do wrong? Produce 2 Games worthy of the title of Game of the Year?
Thats entirely a personal opinion.
Sure is, but a lot of people had to have liked it for that to happen.
To counter, I present that Bioware made Baldurs Gate, kinda makes Game of the Year a fairly small achievement.

Well true, but still, it is some sort of Achievement, and there are still the lots of people who liked it and the good reviews.
Lots of people also like Justin Bieber and Twilight. I'm into what's GOOD, not what's POPULAR. 95% of everything is shit, and Bethesda's games after Morrowind happen to be included in that.

New Vegas, on the other hand, was excellent despite a rough, buggy launch. And even though Bethesda didn't develop it, I can still give them a little credit for publishing. A LITTLE.
But Bioware is winning so....that means they are bad? NOOOO!!!

In all seriousness, this is entirely a bit of sillyness in the guise of a popularity contest anyone who takes it seriously thinking they can prove personal preferance is well...has their own issues to deal with.

90% of everything is shit. /thread

I've only played Oblivion and Dragon Age: Origins. Now, after that experience, I am buying Morrowind, and I am never touching another Bioware game again. Characters in Oblivion might be retarded as hell, and the game is buggy, but at least it doesn't make me fall asleep while playing. That said, the characters from Dragon Age are cool. Pity the game was boring and linear.

As everyone has inevitably seen, there is a massive Bio vs Beth poll running. And, as usual, everyone is attacking Bethesda with misinformation. So here we go:

Myth: Bethesda made all those terrible (and they are) games like WET, Rogue Warrior, etc.
Fact: Bethesda Game Studios has only made TES and FO3 in recent years. So those terrible games are published by Zenimax, the publishing arm masquerading under the Bethesda name. That's like saying Bioware is terrible because they "made" Spore (EA published it).

Myth: Bethesda's pumping out too many games lately. They are all going to be awful.
Fact: Bethesda (BGS)didn't make NV, and isn't making Hunted, Rage, or Brink.

Myth: Bethesda's games don't have a backstory/story and have no depth.
Fact: The Elder Scrolls games have an insane amount of lore. Their lore people can't even keep track of everything. See the Imperial Library: http://www.imperial-library.info/

That's about it right now. I just can't stand misinformation but I still adore Bioware, so don't take this as an attack :)
Yes, 90% of that thread was ignorance.

Here's some more:
NWN2 and kotor2 were made by OBSIDIAN, not bioware.
Planescape and IWD were made by BIS.
Fallout 1 and 2 weren't made by bethesda, but again BIS.

So there was alot of misinformation. Still that's no reason to let beth of the hook. They make games (FO3 and TES) that maybe appeal more to certain gamers, but you cannot reasonably argue they're doing a better job.

Look beyond the different subgenres and consider the animation, dialogues and BUGS for one.

Actually, ME and FO3 are both RPShooters and I'll take the shooting mechanics of ME over FO3 any day.
The most depth and involvement you can have with the shooting part in FO3 is strafing from and behind a pillar while shooting in counterphase to a mutant repeatedly firing a hunting rifle. I still would have mind so much, if it didn't feel so clunky and the controls were more responsive.
ME actually has some barebones cover mechanics and companion commands in place. It's more responsive overal and the shields, armor and different ammo types add some depth and then there's biotics to spice it up.

Oh, that last point, hell yeah. Morrowind in particular, the lore in that game was absolutely incredible. You can see how much raw effort has been pumped into that game, it's amazing just to read what people have to say, different views, events, a fully worked-out politics system, land control disputes, it's all incredible.
