There are also 3-5 times MORE carcinogens in pot than tobacco. Carcinogens are what cause cancer. It also deacreses learning, reaction, common sencse. People who use pot are more likely to have their IQ drop, have more days absent or late from work or school and sooner or later, it will seriously affect your ability to function. But people don't actually care 'bout stuff like that.
Carcinogens only effect your head, Fred
Its the tar and smoke that effect your lungs, none of which you get from Marijuana if in-taken correctly

Why not go with the idea of Dr. Denis Leary. Create a state in the middle of the United States called the state of denial. In the new state every substance would be legalized and taxed. So with in state borders you can do what ever the hell you want. The taxes from this state would pay for the wellfare and healthcare for the rest of us, and if someone dies because of what they do in that state good riddance, one less drain on the healthcare, wellfare, and social security system. He explained it better, check out his book "Why We Suck". And do note that he is does have the title Dr. because he does have a docterate.

I don't know why the myth of marijuana not being dangerous floats around. It has more carcinogens the cigarettes and thus has a higher chance of causing lung cancer. Overdoses on marijuana are far more likely the overdoses on booze. The only reason you DON'T hear about that stuff is because there are no ads saying don't do pot for (blah) reasons because its already illegal.
Are you trying to be ironic? Or do you really believe that stuff? Not to be too mean, but that's pretty ignorant.

I thought the book was titled Shut the Fuck Up, by Dr. Denis Leary. And I'm pretty sure he's not actually a doctor, though that might have been something he's done recently. But I'm pretty sure that's just a joke. He's a comedian, after all..... I love Leary.... Started a short lived church devoted to him.

"Life sucks. Get a fucking helmet."

EDIT: This is the same guy who equated a six-pack and an oz. to drug treatment, but that was a while ago........

Maybe I need to reread my posts, but I never mentioned anything about the effects of marijuana at all.

What proof do you have that these "precursors" or whatever you want to call them used substances. None, then again I have no proof they didn't as there is basically nothing known about there supposed existence. It also has nothing to do with this debate. The debate is whether marijuana should be legalized. Also animals are not people, nor are they human.

I say let it be legalized, but only for medicinal purposes. Put it behind the counter at pharmacies not behind the counter at gas stations.
No, you need to read the thread in general. The comments on effects were directly aimed at the critical fail of confabulating retardation and schizophrenia. Then again, if you get your information from "Reefer Madness" reading threads might be a bit much....

I don't need proof, I have a brain. The oldest known recipe I've heard is for beer. Even if that's not quite true it's close enough. Fermentation existed even before recipes. Monkey's eat fruit. We eat fruit. Cavemen ate bad fruit from time to time and got drunk. Do the math.

In fact, this is why prohibition failed: Alcohol is the oldest known substance to be used. We literally couldn't keep from using. Not as individuals, as a society we couldn't quit.

And yet alcohol, as I stated before, is far far more dangerous then pot. Both in moderation and in excess. So you only want pot for medicinal purposes? Does that mean you only want alcohol for medicinal purposes?

The most basic arguement for legalizing recreational marijuana goes as follows:

1. We always have used, we always will use.

2. Criminalization of use of some substances is needed, criminalization of others does more damage then intelligent legalization.

3. Compassionate societies will look to reduce the damage done by their laws. Hence the reason murder is illegal but drinking is legal.

4. Marijuana makes more sense as a recreational drug _than any other_.

Finally if you get your drug of choice, say a glass of wine with a meal, what right do you have to say that I don't get to smoke a joint after dinner? Especially since I don't drink (the damage was too much for me?)

I'm done with this thread. I'm tired of the same old crappy anti-pot arguements in a world where booze runs freely.

In the end, pot WILL be legalized sooner or later. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

If any of you want a response send me a private message. The rest of you enjoy your thread.

There is a lot of misinformation in this thread so I felt like a had to post.

1. Yes marijuana has more carcinogens than cigarettes. If smoked from something that isn't filtered (joint, blunt, bowl etc.) If you smoke from a bong it eliminates most of the carcinogens that are soluble in water.
2. Eating or Vaporizing marijuana eliminates most if not all of the health detriments.
3. SMOKING ANYTHING WILL DAMAGE YOUR LUNGS. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH MARIJUANA BUT WITH THE METHOD.

I smoke marijuana regularly and I support this bill, but I felt that I had to comment to counter some of the so called "facts" in this thread.
This.

You can get cancer from inhaling large amounts of most types of smoke.
Overdosing on pot is a hilarious prospect.
Overdosing on Cheetos however...

If it's 'from' Denis Leary, it was probably plagiarized.

Seriously, I can't stand that guy.
Yes I know it is a joke but the idea is sound, its from "Why We Suck". And he is a doctor, he recieved a doctorate, in "Why We Suck" he has a picture of it. Give the guy some credit, other people can have original ideas besides you. Just to let you know everything has been plagiarized because there have never been an orginal idea since the first organisms discovered how to walk, talk and breath.

What a great idea, Lets legalize weed and also take millions of dollars out of the schooling system.
I think our Governor wants us dumb.
Maybe we'll all regress into the bongo smoking, bleach blond[e] surfers we evolved from...

Wow, if he actually got his doctorate, that's pretty fucking awesome. Question is, who would give him one, and what is he a doctor of?

And now a moment from "The Godfather" series:

Just when I get out they DRAG me back in!!!

Fine. This is no longer the pot thread. This is now the Denis Leary thread. All the cool kids will _only_ be discussing Denis Leary.
All discussion about pot by the cool kids will be only in direct relation somehow to Denis Leary.

Dear lord. You had to bring up the church again, didn't you. Proof God loves me: I'm still living. Then again, how wrong can you be when three of your commandments simply state: Cindy Crawford.

I'm suprised I haven't started taping "Rescue Me" yet. I just might before too long.

He has an Honorary Doctorate from his alma mater Emerson College. Did some "literary" work there or some such. And if Timothy Leary has a doctorate in anything I don't think I wanna know about it.

In the end, it's addictive, it has a possibility of ruining your life. Just like cigarettes and alcohol do. If it becomes legal and people want to do it, so long as they understand the risks I really don't care, just never come near me and I don't want anything to do with you. Water is obviously legal, but if it started becoming an immensely finite resource, people would kill each other over it. Even if marijuana becomes legal, what happens when a immensely addicted person can't find or afford (more likely) any, but knows "that neighbor across the street" does. Theft at the least, murder at the worst. Crime will not disappear simply because it's legal. Crimes due to alcohol happen ALL the time. In terms of addiction/dependence, there's not all that much different.

Note: I'm not saying it WILL ruin your life, it just certainly has a chance of doing so. I know full well there are people out there who drink/smoke and just have a good time and I don't need to hear a rant on how wonderful it is. Go on, enjoy yourselves, just like I said, stay away from me and I'll respect your choices.
