None, people need to bloody read the books and use their imagination when writer leaves room for such instead of completely following the imagination of the people who make the movie - and horrible maim it in many cases for many reasons - like length of the movie, certain ideals and characters that could be considered negative in some societies, and all that bullshit.

And while I wouldn't mind to see a well-done Discworld movie, I'm sure it'd suck and they'd completely gut that awesome creation. Though on the other hand, I haven't really seen the ones that were already made.
I fully agree with the first paragraph. That said even though they would butcher them to hell and be rated at least R for sexual content The Anita Blake Series and The Merry Gentry Series by Laurell K Hamilton.
Also any of R.A.Salvatore's works particularly The Dark Elf ones and the Icewindale Trilogy

When I read "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card a few years ago, I was sure someone would adapt the book for film. Unfortunately I'm still waiting. What book have you read that would make for an awesome movie? Bonus points for director and actor recommendations.
Good call ... though Thomas Covenant would be equally as awesome.

I'd like to see "The Dresden Files" by Jim Butcher made into a series of movies or even just TV Movies. I tried to watch the TV series but it sucked! They changed too much from the books!
I don't think that would be a good thing. If the studio system turned Hellblazer into Constantine, what do you think they'll do the The Dresden Files?

I would like to see a movie based of The Filth. That would blow a lot of people's minds.

None, while movies based on books aren't usually as bad as video-game movies...
They are still usually very disappointing and mediocre.

The problems usually come from the fact that faithful re-creations of books in movie are quite rare.
Usually the material ends up being oversimplified and doesn't cover what the book does.

I agree with Gormourn, people need to use their imaginations.
No movie can possibly compare to what I can create with my imagination when reading a good book.

I'd like to see a good adaption of a W40k novel (although I'm fairly certain it'll never happen). The problem is that there don't appear to be many great stand-alone novels (or at least I haven't read any yet) that would work for the big screen... 'Brothers of the Snake' by Dan Abnett, for example, was a very entertaining read, but wouldn't work due to the large time skips inbetween chapters.
Some of the trilogies or ongoing series would make quite great movie material, but you'd have to make one of those into a movie that's at least 4 to 5 hours long, which doesn't work either... I guess it's top notch animation (2D or 3D) material which could really be brought to life with the proper script writers and voice actors.
In the end, the ones I could actually see happening if someone ever picked up on the idea are the novels of the 'Eisenhorn' trilogy or a slightly slimmed-down version of the Horus Heresy.

A book is a book because the artist designed it as a book.
A movie is a movie because the artist designed it as a movie.
A game is a game because the artist designed it as a game.

And never should they meet.

The rest of the K-PAX books. The first made a brilliant film, I'd love to see the other two in film form.

Bunnicula.

What? It would work great as an animated movie. And I mean ANIMATED, not CGI-merging-with-the-real-world crap.
Freakin' EPIC.

That is pure genius.

I would LOVE to see a Drizzt movie.

Either that or an Elric of Melnibone movie.

The entirety of the chronicles of Thomas Covenant. I'm going to keep mentioning these awesome books on these forums and one day; yes, one day somebody will recognize them and we will be friends forever.

wait a second...

Any Matthew Reilly Book.

Not a terribly eloquent writer... but his ideas would make amazing action films. Also the plot isn't deep enough to ruin through crappy book - film translation.
couldn't have said it better myself. id really love to see ice station on the big screen

yeah, i can see where you're coming from.

do you know what i reckon would be awesome? if somebody got a general idea or theme, say, D-Day for example, and got the best writer to write a book about it, to get EA games or somebody to make a game on it, and get Michael Mann or Stephen Spielburg to do a movie on it, and then see which is best.
i guess thats what has happenned with dday anyway, i mean, COD5 could be the game, Saving Private Ryan the movie and im sure theres a book on it somewhere.

Isaac Asimov's Foundation
I'm not sure if that would make the best movie, it's a good book sure but it's a very slow pace. If anything I'd do one of his other novels like End of Eternity or something.
I agree that Mr. Asimov is a great thinker but a poor storyteller. However, this would make an unique movie, don't you think? To put the emphasis on the thoughts and not on actions. Certanly not something for the masses, but it would become a stuff of legends.
Well obviously what's gonna happen is they are gonna forcefeed the story some action for no reason and fuck it all up in the process.

Neromancer by William Gibson directed by Ridley Scott with the main character Henry Dorsett Case being acted by Gerard Butler and Molly Mirrorshades being acted by Angelina Jolie.

FUCK THE MATRIX.

Even though movies usually bastardize a good book, I'd love to see the Dark Tower saga on the big screen.
agreeded
A Dark Tower movie pulled off properly would be 50 kinds of epic, but due to both the length of the stories, and the way that so many people manage to butcher text to video translations, I have very, very serious doubts that it could ever come out as anything worth watching. Or considering watching.

Then again, the fight scenes at the end of Song of Susannah/the beginning of The Dark Tower would be awesome.

(Not so much the very last fight, though. That one sucked.)

The Dark Tower series IS being made by JJ Abrahms and Co.

Most of the Drizzit books could make a good movie.

Dragonlance - awesome premise, just hope they don't screw it up.

Foundation - too slow and drawn out to make into a movie without first butchering it.

Ender's Game - please dear god no! Let me hold onto at least some of my fond childhood memories without hollywood butchering them (and hollywood would definitely butcher Ender's Game). If done well it could be a good movie, but I think hollywood is incapable of turning it into a good movie.

I have dreamed of Dragonlance getting a Lord of The Rings treatment since those movies came out. IMHO Dragonlance done right would kick the ass of the LOTR movies.
