Blah blah blah.
If you let the Queen of England rule over you, that means you're English. Gain independence and then we'll talk.
There hasn't been a Queen of England since 1707.

If anyone is currently being ruled over by her, something is very seriously wrong.

the most annoying thing is when someone asks where I'm from, and I explain that Cupar is a town in Scotland, and they then say "oh, Scotland, whereabout in England is that?" those people deserve to have their eyes gouged out with the spout of a teapot.
That reminds me of something in GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned.

When you go an watch Frankie Boyle at the Comedy Club, the announcer says "All the way from Scotland, England... Frankie Boyle!".

The weird thing is, I'm not 100% whether that's a joke parodying American's ignorance when it comes to other countries, or an actual mistake.

I'm about 90% sure it's a joke, seeing as Rockstar North are based in Scotland and Dan and Sam Houser are English, but there's still 10% of me which isn't completely sure... which probably means the joke's on me.

You live in Cupar? I have family there.

I call myself Scottish, but don't mind being called British.

To set something straight, the British Isles consists of Great Britain (Scotland, Wales and England), Ireland (Northern Ireland, Republic Of Ireland), the Isle Of Man, the Channel Islands (arguable) and various other, smaller islands (Skye, Hebrides etc).

The United Kingdom is made up of Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales with most of the small islands belonging to these countries. It does NOT count the Republic Of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle Of Man.

The term "British" can generally be applied to all islands/nations in the British isles, but those outwith the UK or even Great Britain may object to the usage when applied to them.

ehhh if you go back far enough we are all British. Except those who aren't or never were..

...wait...what?
By the same token, you could say we're all African, because if you go back far enough, everyone is descented from the first humans there.

Given Rockstar North are based in Edinburgh, I'd assume they know were they are.

It's like calling people from the U.S. "Americans". There are other people in the Americas, but the U.S. is the most notable. The same goes for England and Britain/the UK.

True, but its kinda problematic. What else can we call people of the USA other than American. Canadans, Mexicans, and South Americans are all American in the sense all Brits, Germans, and French are European.

The way i see it as going is:
Britain = England,Scotland,Wales
England = English
Scotland = Scottish
R of Ireland and N-ireland (so my friend tells me)= Irish

Conversely if you say british you normally mean the UK as a whole, there is no ukish

as a note to my friends across the pond
Any type of anglo-american =a yank
(e.g. the people who claim their scottish whist speaking with a texan drawl)

I'm proudly English! Long Live the Crumpet! :D

I know that, I even said as much in the part of my post you conveniently missed out!

I don't need any help in making myself look foolish, and if I did then I'd ask for it first, thank you very much!
/joke.

I do find it interesting however, that the joke makes me feel almost as ignorant as the people it's parodying. I should know better, that not everyone is that ignorant, yet I had my doubts. It exposed my own prejudices about other people's ignorance.

It's a shame though, that the joke is too subtle and wont be picked up by everyone... a lot of people might not even recognise it as a joke and think Scotland is a part of England.

I actually like the "yank" term, I was in a all English clan once and thats what they would always call me, and its been going strong for a good 3 years now haha.

But I can say that people from the UK discrediting Americans who are proud of having Irish/English/Scottish etc blood in their family, really upsets some Americans, since we cant claim our family is "from America", and came from those places at one point or another.

We're born in Britain, therefore we're British. You can call yourself English if you want, because you were born in England which is IN Britain. I call myself British though because England hasn't been a distinct state since 1707. Saying that a British person HAS TO BE Welsh, Scottish AND English is nonsense.

Technically speaking it should be United Kingdom-ish but that has no ring to it. Ukkish?

yes well Americans are ignorant and single minded beings. just for all of you Americans out there im going to give you a geography lesson in a way you might understand. Ulster+Wales+Scotland+England=Britain(not including the several small islands they control)
Actually, Ulster has three counties that are in the Republic of Ireland.

Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan. It's Northern Ireland that's part of the UK, not Ulster.
oops my bad. thanks for the correction.

Because you're label makes more sense.
Why?
Germany consists of 16 states under a federal government.
I'm not a Saxon, Hamburger, Palatine and so on...
Following your logic, I'd have to have ancestors from all parts of Germany to be called a German.
Or are you suggesting Bavarian and Prussian are the same nationality?!
I dare you.

I have Irish, Scottish, and Welsh in me so I could be considered to have English or British blood in me. But I am not British or English. I am American with Irish, Scottish, and Welsh blood in me.

Good, because there are only five or so actual "bloodlines" in Europe(as in, the different groups of people who migrated into Europe originally). But still, I accept all the bloodline crap when I want to be a Viking, because they are pretty cool.
I just think that, considering the warring nature of Europe and the resulting population migrations and minglings, trying to make a statement of your heritage is kind of pointless.
And if you look back far enough, we end up in Africa anyway.
So I guess I'm a Caucasian African European or whatever.

Plus there isn't really a great way to prove bloodline, as most of Europe is probably nearly genetically identical. It's more of a novelty to know your ancestry than anything. Or something to brag about, if you're A VIKING LIKE ME!
Well, I'm a Bavarian and a Frank, so screw you and BUY OUR BEER!
