Okay, I need help here. So, I have some pirated stuff on my PC, will this effect me?
It's on an external hardrive that I leaved plugged into my computer. Can they search my computer OTI?
The EU did the vote or something and this thingy did not pass. Someone posted a link sometime in this thread, I'm not really sure where.
So it's not in the UK?

I've never pirated anything. If I'm listening or watching something that's worth listening or watching, whether its a movie, game or music, I've awlways paid for the privlegde. Just feels like stealing to me otherwise.

This bill was turned down in EU and Australia, right?
Well, time to get a passport. America getting a little too, for lack of a better term, suckish for my tastes. I mean, the fact that the ACTA hasn't been thrown out the window as soon as it was proposed I can understand to a degree, but knowing that this thing could actually pass?
I'd rather live in a hut in Somalia where my most high-tech possession is my toothbrush than live in a country that randomly search you at an airport for illegal substances. Oh, wait! They already can!
Blah, Blah, Blah, political jargon, fuck the bourgeoisie, talking out of my ass, etcetera, etcetera.
I'm tired...

4chan is an image board, not a collective force of like minded peoples that stand together.
I think the group you are looking for is Anonymous.
Although, they too are not entirely like minded and will probably not stand together anymore. But, oh! The memories, the epic, the lulz of days of old! How the mighty have fallen.

So, moving out of the States, eh?
Come to Estonia! For a few years our demographic balance has been in the negative side of the table, so we need fresh blood (literally, blood banks are empty!).Why come here? Well, for starters, we have ...
Hmm... erm... Yeeaaah, about that...*cough*
Come to Europe! Then select a country of your liking! Or go to Australia, the country where EVERYTHING will kill you! (Not trying to make Australia seem like a bad country, I'd actually love to go there, but I recently saw the winning picture/gif/thingy in the Australian group contest, it was quite funny. Anyways, Australia is awesome)

Yeah, I meant them.
They originated from 4chan though right?
Then there was that 4chan attack on YouTube...
Wow. You know you would get torn apart if you said that there, right?
Don't worry, you're safe.
Anyway, Anonymous did not originate from 4chan, they merely took over the site and made it into a "stronghold" of sorts.
As for the origins, well, if you go online with an alias and none of your personal information, you are anonymous. I'm not really sure how it got to be the great ball of fuck it became, but that's why Allah created Google.
Hope this positively dreadful history lesson helped you in the slighest, even though it didn't!

200 years ago it was illegal for a man with dark skin to look a man with white skin in the eyes.
You're right.

Because of idiocy and racism in the past we should make no attempts to improve things today.

I don't need to worry about eating healthy or learning. There's kids in Africa with no food and no education.

Thankyou Kair. You've really put things in perspective.
I think you completely misinterpreted my comment.

This won't solve a thing. Pirates take these types of laws as challenges. If I get arrested for having a picture on my computer I will be sure to tell them that they have to arrest practically everyone else who has a computer too because they are breaking the law too.
Buddy... the people who signed on with this law thinking it is an anti-piracy measure are utter stooges.

This is far less about piracy, and more about increasing corporate bullying power and consumer control. They know DRM will always be cracked, they want police backing them up to lock down their products and services. Because once everything is locked down, then they can start charging people just to move things around, like Microsoft does with Xbox Live.

Back to the bad-old-days of analogue... nullifying the democratisation of the digital revolution.

Well, I got halfway through page 4 of the replies before I got bored. (TLDR)
Seldon2369, you love-able, crazy-enthusiastic skeptic, you!

My 1.7 cents on the subject is;

Relax, gentle nerds. The world isn't going to end this September.
It's not 2012 yet.

Copyright law has its ups and downs.

Welcome to a new low for capitalism, everyone.
Socialism, actually. Remember, Obama wants everything "fair" for everyone, note the air-quotes.
Nope, this is definitely capitalism (read: a small group of people controlling all the money and screwing everyone else over to make more) as opposed to socialism (read: everyone being supported by the government)
I actually believe socialism would improve the world greatly; not least America, but unfortunately America's current generation is also the generation that was brought up to believe communism was the greatest evil in the world.
