well its mostly the players whos thought process of multiplayer believes that if your not blowing something up at least every 5 seconds, you must be doing something wrong. look at quickscoping; not exactly the tactic i think of when i hear 'sniper rifle', but its the fast and frantic tactic that the sniper can be used for; the more realistic (and what should be most viable) tactic of training your sights on a target until youve 'locked on' so to speak doesnt mesh with the pace most people play at. thats why they hate camping; its not a tactic they believe has a place in the game.

I agree with this. Camping is extremely annoying and almost ruins a game (TDM mostly). How is it possibly fun to sit in a corner the entire game? What gets me angry is the people who keep running back to the camper/s to try to kill them and continuously die... I much prefer running and gunning, I have a K/D of 1.87 doing that and it works for me. The only time I camp is when the game mode requires it or the bloody phone rings...
The game never calls for camping. Theres a differance between camping and defencive play.
Sitting with your ass against a wall, watching one doorway? Thats camping.
Accually moving, watching multipul entrances, and trying to support your team and protect a point? Defencive play.

All campers care about is theyer K/D. Not if they win or lose.

:/ while i care about my K/D, im never going to be the reason my team loses. Im always protecting a point, or trying to slow enemys down.

I'm not one to scream at a well placed camper...it's about strategic placement of one's self, but it's the ones that sit in a corner or a dead end hallway,Example being the top level of sword base in Halo Reach, and even if they get killed in the process of the camp they immediately return to the same spot where they get killed...like many have said here I too have camped but once I get killed I rarely return to that spot in the match.

Because people are tired of people bending their gameplay styles to camping just to get useless K/D ratios, instead of having fun and running out into the mix and blowing crap up. Lastly, if everyone camped, no one would get a kill. How much would that suck?

Instead, the only GOOD camping is usually the Battlefield BC2 camping, as it allows you to easily remove the camper by tanks / aircraft / mortars or whatnot. Not the CoD style where you just have to through grenades and pray it lands near the camper, since the walls are suddenly bullet proof for the most part, with only one entrance.

this is camping at its worst it manipulates enemies and draws them into a trap ALTHOUGH camping is such a natural technique look at a mantis, a mantis will wait until its prey comes to it, likewise a spider sets up his web and awaits his prey. it works because its worked for millions of years. evolution is giving us campers a helping hand
I stopped using the Spy Plane and now use Rc Cars for exactly this reason. My favorite way to use them is revenge kills on ghost campers.

Defensive play is my version of camping. It's the closest I come to the actual thing. I care about my K/D, I don't really know why but I just do. I consider any game below 1.5 to be pretty bad but I'll never camp to boost it. I don't really care about winning or loosing either, I just happen to win alot because my team is good and everyone else seems to be really bad (had an 83 game winning streak on MW2, all legit without dashboarding)

Even though I really favor sniper rifles in every FPS I play, I don't camp. I find playing moderately aggressive with sniper rifles fun. I do stay in one position for approximately 10 to 20 seconds. Did you see how Hutch played MW2? My playstyle is similar. That's not really camping, is it?
Also, killing stupid campers is satisfying, chasing smart ones is fun. I have no real problem with it.

I played WoW for a bit, corpse camping pissed the hell out of me (it's one of the reasons I stopped), but sniping is a big part of Call of Duty, might as well make use of it.

I don't find camping to be a problem with most modern shooters to be honest. It isn't like you have rooms wit only one entrance, ammunition health and armor inside and a rocket launcher to point at the door. When an entire team resorts to that however the game becomes entirely boring to play.

I loved camping bosses in LotRO. Sometimes you'd log in at the boss and another person would be there and they would swear blind they'd only killed him once and not gotten a drop. So of course you'd wait and let them kill him, then camp the boss for a few hours and get a stack of items.
Camping in EQ2 - 2 days later and still no spawn....

It's because people come up with all sorts of reasons why you can't use "unfair" tactics to beat them. I usually don't camp because I've never been any good at it. There are always two ways to get into wherever I am, and an enemy will always bypass my claymore and ram their gun barrel in the back of my head.

EDIT: Although there was one time where I was a militant anti-camper in MW2. I and two colleagues were playing splitscreen on Skidrow, and one kept going to the same spot on the staircase at the end of the long corridor, and every time I would pass by, I'd shoot a grenade down the hall and kill him. We both had a good laugh about that.

My win streak is never over 10. In MW2 it was only 20. I ussually play with randoms.
I have alot of friends who play, but theyer almost never on when i am.

Personally, i dont care so much about winning. I care more about having a good time. Win or lose, im in it for fun and not much more. Camping isnt fun, and rushing can end up being a pain. Defencive play tends to be the most bang for your buck in that catagory.

to be honest if people are stupid enough not to have figured out where the guy is, or how to kill him first time round he deserves to die.

I have nothing against campers, or in fact anything else in the Call of Duty franchise. I just get on and live with it instead of complaining until I am out of breath.

I do get pissed at them sometimes, like on rundown there is a house were you can walk across the rafters upstairs to a little ledge and sit there with any shotgun and kill anybody who comes in.

Opposite side of the river to the "fruit stand"

The only way to kill the camper is get lucky with a semtex or a rocket launcher.

Or the ones that sit in the most random corner and no matter how careful you are, they kill you.

There is no way to go round flashing or nading every corner, even if you manage to do that, there are still the snipers miles away just waiting for your crouch walking ass to come into view, so they will have time to get a perfect head shot.

I'd just like to get something straight.
Camping with a sniper rifle ISN'T camping, its sniping and is a valid strategy.... because what the hell else will you do with a sniper? Camping with a shotgun however IS camping and is perhaps valid but really annoying and defeats the point of any FPS. Thats why people hate it.

Camping is understandable in objective games and I don't mind people you use tactical locations etc. But in things like Team Deathmatch, having someone hide in a corner is just a pain in the arse.

I guess it's because I grew up with run 'n' gun FPS games such as Timesplitters and such. Like I said, it's okay for objective games, not Deathmatches. This is why I stick to objective gametypes...

This more than anything. Especially when playing with randoms.
