Hi, I'm Ula. You can call me ...Ula for short.
I'm your average 16 year old girl who likes to be happy and making other people happy. I like music, reading, writing, drawing and baking. I am a kind person who, rather foolishly, thinks the best of everyone.

I joined last February, and I'd like to think I'm part of the community. I don't stick out much from the crowd, but in my opinion, that's kind of a good thing. Initially I didn't contribute much, but a lovely person called TheBluesader was kind enough to start talking to me and I became more active. Then somehow I started talking to MaxTheReaper, it was more derailing threads actually. I have other 'Scapist friends, but I mostly talk to them on Twitter now, so I don't post on here so much.

Hi.

I'm Arcadia, and have been so for 11 years. I'm only 27, so that puts my internet debut in perspective. I will occasionally clue people in on the fact that I am also Teh LiZ. I fight for fairness and playing nice with others. I also share.

I'm another one of those shadow posters. I've been around for ages, read lots of threads, but never seem to say all that much. However, when I do, a wall of text spews forth that makes up for the amount of silence necessry to keep my sanity intact. Though some might say insanity's not so bad... I've only had encounters with the not-fun kind.

I got married recently (not looking for the usual congrats) and it's changed my outlook on my existance as an escapist. Somehow I feel a need to be connected to people more. For example, I just realized that NewClassic friended me. Ages ago. And once I realized it, I suddenly felt enormously special for being noticed by a big name (I'm not one of the leetle peeple, not at all) and sad that I don't know who my "friends" are. I think I might break out of the usual and go visit some other forums, and try to be a little more... friendly.

Exceptionally bad grammar and spelling make me twitch. I like kitties. I get the feeling I'm only watching ZP anymore because it's habit. Though it did bring me, the good conversation made me stay.

Take it easy. Later.

=^..^=

It´s not foolish. It requires backbone to hold exceptional views in these dark times.

Anyway, it´s nice to meet you too, Ula.
You know, your name has been bugging me for sometime now. It reminds me of my aunt, Ulla. Besides my aunt, it also makes me think about ULA, a Finnish equivalent to FM broadcast band.
And your avatar reminds of my cat.

It gets confusing occasionally.

I'm AvsJoe.

I joined last May, but I had been lurking here since early January when I got linked to this site by an article featured on IMDB links. I hate forums of all shapes and sizes including this one. But this is the best one I've come across, so I'm here putting my two cents into anything I can find unless I have nothing to add to the conversation. I'm generally happy, I don't have any really strong opinions, and a lot of people have said that I'm a good guy to chat with, so I'll assume that's true. I have my own inside jokes, but I hate being on the outside of one, so if I come across an inside joke, then I try to understand what's so funny. I don't really know what else to say besides I haven't gotten into trouble from the mods, I've run into Max and Neon a few times and they're good people, and I love commenting on other people's avatars (good way to learn stuff).

Hundred bucks says that very few people are gonna take the time to read this wall of text.

Yes. That's exactly what I meant.

*shudders*

I was reading course surveys of P-chem, and found a text response that read "It was the hardest thing I've ever done. Not academically either - it's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life." I'm not sad that I dodged the class.

Oh, and I sometimes forget to put [/sarcasm] tags at the end of what I say (they should be implied for about 90% of my posts, but some people apparently miss that).
There- one was missing
I fixed it up for you though.
Now it reads correct.

Sorry. Wrong thread.
Well played; I'll admit
I understand some of the
Difficulty, but

I was lucky and
Had a tutor that explained
Everything well.

Much easier than
Organic, where you just learn
Exceptions to rules...

Sorry, just couldn't help myself.

Doesn't sound much like the average 16yr old girls I used to know (when I was 16) or run into nowadays. They tended to not like creative hobbies either. Most of the 16yr olds I meet engage me in a very short conversation where they ask me to buy them fags or booze and I say no and keep walking.

And Arcadia, even though you're not looking for it, congratulations. *Lifts glass of champagne* And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a spontaneous reaction to haphazard writing.

You sound quite similar to me (I have a love/hate relationship with the forum, sure it has some fantastic redeeming aspects but some elements of it really piss me off). I also like to think I have quite a temperate attitude.

And does anybody know what the canyon in the thread title is referring too? Given the somewhat confessional nature this thread has taken so far, not taking advantage of an obvious pun like "Escapists Unanomynous" seems a shame (obviously, most people could come up with something snappier). But then this thread may have turned into a mistitled meta-thread instead.

The canyon is referring to the gap between old hands and n00bs on these forums. I think that's the explanation anyway.

I like watching how things change, how all the old celebrity members went inactive, how Maxthereaper rose to some form of fame based on his constant whining, emoness and maliciousness, I watched Neonbob playing his little games in well, in the forum games section, and I shall watch as more rise and fall. Its only been a year but its been fun so far. What ever happened to the Iron chef guy and that crab, or fullmetalangel or Eggo or anymouse.

Yes, what did happen to the Iron Ninja?

We must get him back on here so he can lighten the heart of this place through humor!

I'm Xvito, I joined about a year ago, and it's been going downhill ever since. Wait, that didn't come out right...

Ahem, anyway, I'm Xvito and I've been here for about a year. I'm a totally crazy person with an extremely liberal (see liberalis) view of the world, and I used to keep it excellent.

I guess I kind of got here right before the "community-shift", when guys like Richard Groovy Pants still roamed the forums...

And while, lately, the forums have been kind of a mess; I still plan to stick around.

Hi there. I'm Portal Master Maniac, and I'm an alcoholic ex-ZP fanboy. I came here for the swift speech of that Aussie, I'll admit. Then I found out there was a Forums tab. I clicked, explored around, and got an interesting view of the community. For some reason I'll never know, I remember seeing the member Optimus Prime make his first post. Some other people welcomed his, and a particular post still sticks out in my mind. I can't remember exactly how it went, but it had the jist of this.
User who's name escapes me said:
How did no one else take this awesome username yet? And he's from yesterday.....

ALL HAIL OUR TIME-TRAVELING AUTOBOT LEADER!
That post alone made me want to join, as that proved to me how awesome the community must be. I joined, customized my profile, and floated about the Off-Topic a bit. Then I made my first post as a thread (I know, how unique is that?) about humans and robots, my memory's kinda hazy. Then I just drifted about for about 500 posts and 4-5 months, when Sparrow made a mock thread about Swine Flu and the zombie apocalypse. It basically resulted in my first RP EVAR, and sucked me into my love of them. I stayed in that single RP for the next 100-200 posts, when a MASSIVE slow RP day came. Bored out of my fucking skull, I decided to post in my first Forum Game, A Classic Game (which is sadly gone). I met my closest friends there, namely Neonbob, imacharginmehlaz0r, ajb924, and Metric Monkey. Then continue this cycle, throwing about 4 RPs into the mix, and 8,000 posts later, and here I am.

I'm pretty insane (by which, I mean OMIGOD THERE GOES THE SPECIAL KID WHO WILL RIP YOUR MIND INSIDE OUT). If you know me to any degree, you'll know my nickname, which is rightly earned. I'm also pretty eccentric, quirky, comforting (or at least, I TRY to be), and stubborn. So now, you know me better. I suggest you RUN.

...I'll be damned if I'll turn my back on you :p

I have to admit, I still feel like most of the older members have some kind of experience that I lack. While this may be a stupid feeling, for several of the people, that respect has been earned. Mostly because I read discussions they had held with other people online, and they has put up so much seemingly random, disconnected stuff that could be used to their advantage that I felt it would be best to avoid poking them.
And of course, they stuck around, which means they're either like me, and refuse to leave because they love the place, or they're incredibly stubborn.

I apologise for confusing you.

It may require some backbone, but it gets annoying when people take advantage of the fact that they can get away with virtually anything just by apologising or saying they didn't mean to and it was an accident. I'm a little bit of a doormat. I think the worst part is that I'm aware of it, but I won't change.

No apologies necessary :) You can´t help the simple-minded.

And I´m sorry for your lot. Mine´s pretty much the same, except my misfortunes are strictly self-made.

But let us not dwell on such gloomy thoughts. They are not worth the time nor the effort.

Hey all, I'm Wadders (or Luke, if I know you well enough :p)

I joined just over a year ago after lurking for a while because (like many of the users here) of ZP, posted a few times, then pretty much abandoned ZP and the forums after a month or so, for no real reason. Then about 2 months ago I resumed posting, and haven't looked back since :D

I tend to post in a variety of threads, depending on how lazy I'm feeling. Sometimes I'll really get into a topic and spend ages typing long posts, others attract me because all I have to do is post some pics of something, or write a very brief response :D

I use emotes too much :)

I also like talking about myself.

I've made a few threads, some were lame, but some (like this one) [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.120423] were pretty cool in my opinion :p I like the community here, and for the most part, the topics are nice and interesting. Yay!

I think it really depends on the lecturers you get...I admit I'm in organic/medicinal synthesis, not physical chemistry pure, but it does come in very handy. The final year physical chemistry course I took was actually one of the ones I enjoyed the most, although, as I say, poorly taught, it could be a nightmare...
