Well, I'll go ahead and say Duke Nukem. I know that it's satire and intentionally over-the-top, but he's still just about everything I hate about gaming protagonists.

Nearly everything that over aggressive jackass does only serves to make things worse be it through nearly killing others, successful killing others, or making martyrs out of the enemy and directly disobeying orders while doing so, all while being dumber than a bag of pig based fertilizer!

And does he ever get punished for it? Placed on latrine duty? Shot or demoted for insubordination!? NO! They REWARD him! They PROMOTE him! They give their biggest idiot AUTHORITY! I was hoping Killzone 3 would have a Helghast mode just so I could finally shoot him, but nope.

Heck, given how much the creators seem to like him, that fictional Helghast mode would probably end with Rico killing the player character after everyone else was dealt with.

Wait, really? He's a jolly blue-collar guy who's pretty quick on the uptake and likes to help people, who happens to be Italian-American. Even positive stereotypes aren't exactly the best things, but I'm not really seeing anything to get up in arms over. If I were to raise the battle flag about anything there, it would be the classism and American stereotyping of an blue-collar laborer immigrant.

Now, if Mario joined the mob or started beating Peach, I'd be a little concerned.

OT: Quite possibly Sonic the Hedgehog. While I still look fondly at the days of me playing the SA games, I can't help but feel that he has become a shell of his former self. Sonic 06 is a great example of this.

Can I use tabletop games? Because I really hate Drizzt and Elminster Aumar. So much so that I have forbiden any of my players from refering to them in a positive light, lest they be crushed under rocks and perish

In video games, every character from FFX save Lulu.
I would also have to say Bishop from Neverwinter Nights 2. Poorly writen evil character. I could rant on that issue all day. Really, don't get me started.

Other than that, I would also have to say Hope from FFXIII.

I'm sorry I've only read the Dark Elf trilogy and I admit, I loved those books, so what is it about Drizz't Do'Urden you dislike so much?

Also if you can tell me without spoilers (I've just fought Barthandelus for the second time) why do you (and well practically anyone) dislike Hope so much? I thought he was a brilliant character and could pretty much understand why he was feeling the way he was at each point in the story. Does no one have compassion for this poor kid?

OT: I know I'm beating a dead (I wish) horse here but Wesker, a thousand times Albert Wesker! Oh wait I just REALLY dislike him, a disgrace? Games aren't known for their grace to begin with but a charcter who has literally lessened gaming for me?

Almost everyone in Star Ocean: The Last Hope I probably would not have even finished the game if the combat wasn't so much fun. And Lyme don't even get me started on her.
