If one is to accept that all hatred for videogame characters is irrational, I'd have to say Lord Yuna from Breath of Fire 4. He was meant to be detested but Capcom did a little too good a job with that aspect of his character.

Worst of all is what happens to the slippery scheming slimeball at the end of the game.

Nothing at all. The main character foolishly relinquishes his godly power for the love of Nina before Yuna is dealt with, leaving him free to create an army of false gods whenever he chooses to, something he is planning to do in the ending.
In a way, both endings of the game are 'Bad Endings', only in one, the world's doom is postponed for a while longer.

Tifa. Yes, still. Yes, because she's a manipulative brat and represents all the evil a woman can do with a wrench in some poor guy's head when they've got that guy wrapped around their finger since childhood. I am a female, which I know I have to disclose after saying that lest people think I'm some angst riddled young boy who got burned - I just don't like her because of those facets of her character, which I don't like in living, walking around women either. They make a bad name for us all.

Practically worming her way into Cloud's pants before Aeris was even COLD didn't help either.

Yeah, I took him to Dive Rock just to push him off the edge, then I climbed to Skyrim till the invisible walls stopped me, begging Bethesda to make me comatose until Elder Scrolls V comes out.

I would have to say Vaan from FF12. He's why I didn't want Revenant Wings or the second Dissidia game. As soon as I heard he was in dissidia I decided I was NOT going to play it. Even to the point of, if someone were to buy me a copy of duodecim, I wouldn't even open it and simply return it to the store.

Hope - The worst pre-teen whiner I have had the misfortune to come across in a game OR in the real world.

I really dislike persons that hate characters for the pure reason that they are depressed. The only logical reason that I can see why anybody would respond with hate towards a person feeling depressed is that they have never actually experienced what that person or character has and see the whole event as "no big deal". Come back after it has happened to you and then respond.

I have two who work in combination to earn my eternal hate, Micaiah and Sothe from Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. It's bad enough that they're both obnoxious, but the way the game makes you use their useless butts really helped ruin that game.

the most annoying characters in any game were the guy on the phone from Dead Rising (don't know it and don't care) - just calls me to tell me in what part of the mall I just knowingly went in to, then if I need to hang up before he's finished, he bitches at me for being rude
from the same game, although not a main character - the old woman who let the zombies into the mall who somehow overpowered two strong young men for a dog that wasn't even being touched, I mean really - I've got to save perfectly safe dog from the monsters
Then the same problem goes for Roman from GTA4 - I swear he never shuts up - who thought characters that call you constantly were good?
