Chernobyl to become tourist attraction.

I've always been tempted to go take a look at the area, i hear it's a genuine sight to behold what has happened there since we humans have left it in peace. Just hope it doesn't turn into a "busy" tourist attraction or all that will be ruined.

The ministry also revealed plans to build a safe shell for the exploded reactor by 2015. The new shelter will cover the original iron-and-concrete structure hastily built over the reactor that has been leaking radiation, cracking and threatening to collapse.
Thank god they haven't forgot about that though, remember reading about the state the reactor was in a couple of years ago and wondering why the hell they hadn't fixed the faults yet.

Good. If they harp on how rubbish the reactor was, maybe enough Americans will see it for the country to get over its monsters-under-the-bed fear of nuclear power. Why do we even care about a 1970s Soviet piece of garbage? Our trauma should have been Three Mile Island, which by the way didn't kill anybody, and which happened seven years before Chernobyl.

"Still "dangerous"" is only positive for the image. I'm sure many people would like to visit that place. Just think of the amount of apocalypse-threads on The Escapist...
True but again, all for the wrong reasons, One just hopes they have the desency to leave the things there as they are.

Many parts of it aren't dangerous. However, people coming back to it would reverse the ecological development that's come there since humans abandoned it.
Some trips wouldn't really have a impact, tho I do believe that they should just stop at that, sure it would be nice if people could once again live there but such a grim reminder is nescecery and sometimes it's better if the nature takes back what was righfully it's to begin with.

The problem with 3 mile island is there wasnt nearly the problem Chernobyl turned into. I'm going to assume you're read up on 3 mile, so you'll see there was never any danger. We had it controlled, and it was built to be in a perfect spot so no one is hurt. That was just our chance to look at the soviets, give them the bird and say "haha, you cant do it right, you losers". There was never a danger or castastrophe over what happened. It was just... meh.

OT: I'd go, but the fact i have to travel there and the costs of it, plus that the scientists think they have a safe route charted out is abit too much for me. I know me. I'm not dumb by any means, but I'm far to curious for my own good. I'd wonder off and come back with Radiation poisoning. Besides, I've played CoD. Thats all the tour I need.

I would love to go there, though only if I could be by myself. Mainly so I can indulge on that depressing but somewhat satisfying feeling of emptiness; like the whole world died but you didn't. I could just let my imagination run wild. It wouldn't be the same if other people where there.

Sorry dude but as I mentioned before. And the people who are only interested cause of a game had this one lv there, you need to re-evaluate somethings in your life before even thinking of going there.
Theres more to it then just a abandoned place with a *post apocalyptyc look*

Take time to look at the pictures of the place. Posted a link to some in previous note.

why do i need to "re-evaluate" wanting to see the original thing? to see a piece of world history, and inspiration+intigrated history? what's so bad about wanting to do that? what about assassin's creed and rome? same dilly-yo, just not-radiated, so what? besides that ONE point, what IS the difference? apparently you know the answer, so tell me.

Just that a lot of people just don't know jack about the actuality. The people who lost their homes, their lives cause of the incident and the severe reprecussions that fallowed it.

I saw somewhere that you can already visit Pripiyat (the local town) for a short amount of time, its not a great nor a briliant idea but people should choose for themselfs if they want to visit it or not. Although it should be only accasible by scientists (IMHO)

I'd love to see Prypiat, there's been urban explorers going there for years. The radiation's been dropping for the past few years, people know the risks when they go there and carry geiger counters.

The reports of mutated pigs and Ukrainian men saying 'get out of here, stalker' haven't gone down though.
