It is a belief becouse of what it stands for, and people do care for this crap. its not about one kid in high school its about people dressing to exspress there beliefs, and if one group is allowed to do it, why cant another group?
Sigh. It'd only be a belief if he really believed in the FSM, how many times do I have to say that?
If he did, I wouldn't even argue with you.
I'd just say "the school must find a compromise with the kid between his religion and the danger of disrupting classes", just like it is with any other religious insignia, clothing, symbols or whatever.

As much as I may TOTALLY disagree with this religion, the school should not have suspended the kid. Freedom of religion and all that garbage, no matter how stupid the religion may be. Besides, it's a fucking pirate outfit. If you really gotta punish someone for wearing one, give 'em a detention, or a stern wag of the finger. It's clothes people! Let's get the fuck over it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this article. Funny stuff. Also how is dressing like a pirate "disruptive"? I never really understood this, its just attire. People will think something is wrong with you but nevertheless its not disruptive until you let arbitrarily decide it is, and even at that its only disruptive to the self.
I commend the effort of the student in the message he played with the media, even though he was probably doing it for other reasons.

Yeah, sorry. I tried to explain it a few times already, the "how many times" was a reference to the entire thread, not you in particular.

Well there is not enouth infomation on if hes just doing it to be annoying or if he really belives what Pastafarians stands for, if hes doing it to be annying then yes he should not be allowed to come to school, but if he exsplains it in a grown up manner that its his belief and is not disrupting then dew to equal rights the school should not be allowed to stop him dressing up like that at school.

so i kinda agree on the point you made, and yes i did not read all 16 pages :p

If he really believed in the religion and the attire, why wasn't he kicked out for wearing it before?

T'was already posted a while ago - and it's equally as pathetic.

The difference is we don't yet fully know if these religions are wrong, as even so they generally teach morals acceptable to today's society - these people are just acting like idiots - and its kinda sad that an "intelligent" (heh) community like this is encouraging such deviant behaviour...

And why, oh why did you choose The Sun - its not even a newspaper, it's a magazine for adults...

I wouldn't accept his "religious rights" any more than I would those of a Scientologist. Because we know that they are religions formed for the purposes of mockery and profit respectively. As opposed to Christianity/Hindu/Buddhism/Islam/Shinto/other actual religions, who's origins are for the most part unknown to us.

Just as a school should not accept someone's religion as an excuse to ridicule homosexuals (just for example) we should not let it excuse the ridicule of other's beliefs.

And as has been said, it could be different if the student believed in a flying spaghetti monster and that pirate attire had some form of meaning. However its clearly an act of disobedience and can't be compared to people who's beliefs state that it is immoral for a woman to have her head uncovered.

I am tempted to defend the childs expression of his religion. However, in order not to become a hypocrite, I must urge that he is to be given the death penalty for poisoning the public scene with religion.

The kid was stupid and should've dressed just like anyone else. and yeah like fletch talon says this whole thing was intended as a mockery of other religions. As for those of you who asked why crosses aren't offensive it's because they are easy to conceal. If you are wearing one on a necklace it is a small thing that if someone is offended by you just slip it inside your shirt. Dressing like a pirate is the visual equivalent of yelling your beliefs at everybody because it is so blatent and so hard not to see.

Also pirates are not even people to be looked up to, unless you're looking at them through the scope of a rifle. Pirates are criminals who exist only to steal things for their own greed.

I think this is stupid...it's not a damn religion it's just a bunch of douchebags seeing how far they can push the envelope. It was certainly disruptive to the other students in the class and if the parents really have such a problem with the system they should homeschool.
How is it not a religion?
Don't worry, smartass. I will play the rest of this argument out for you.

ME: Because they worship some stupid fake god.

YOU: Just like every other religion. (Her her! I sound like I've taken Theology!)

ME: I like to worship something not made out of starch, flour and water.

YOU: That's YOUR opinion. (Her, her! I sound like I've taken PoliSci!)

ME: Yeah that's why I post in an OPINION FORUM!

The fact of the matter is that the kid was a disruption to his class. I don't care what he believes be it Christianity, Atheism, Judaism or this Spaghetti Sillyness...I can't come to school and start throwing my beliefs in peoples faces and say "It's allowed because of my religion!" This kid can't either. Odds are he's just doing this because his parents told him to anyway...and they are just using him to prove a point and get press...sick.

The fact is that every religion was just made up or hallucinated so that doesn't make it any less of a religion and he was just wearing what he thought he should he wasn't throwing it at people

Eh well it is a pretty weird religon but sure why not wear a full pirate costume? Ninjas get to wear full ninja costumes to school.
Yup, we do.

Its pretty sweet, I feel bad for you pirates.

Also, this faith has just as much right to existence as any other.

You cannot prove that god or this spaghetti monster exist, so they are both equally valid.

Bro, all I'm trying to say is that I don't give two shits if this kid's religion is real, fake or otherwise and it's fine if that's what he believes. It said in the article that he was repeatedly disruptive and maybe he was booted for dressing like a pirate and distracting the other kids. Translation: The kid's probably a punk and was an ass when the administration asked him to change his clothes. If he wants to dress like a pirate so bad and practice his faith, let him do it at home and let him take a sick day. Other kids shouldn't have to sit through class while this kid is whispering in the back of the room trying to explain his religion to everybody. I could stand up and start spewing bible verses too and say that was because of my religion, but I would get kicked out of class for that too.

P.S. Intelligent response...I'm pretty sure my last post said more than "blah blah." ;)

Fair enough, if the kid was just being a punk he should be suspended but if he was just trying to uphold his religious creed, then they shouldn't have

P.S. You did? ;)
