Uhm... we have to use some judgement and common sense in these matters. A kid wants to unobtrusively wear a crucifix? Ok. A kid wants to bring the Koran to read at dinner time? Fine. A kid wants to be kept out of any religious classes because he is an atheist? Great. A kid wants to dress a pirate all day and go "ye arr matey!"? No. That would obviously distrupt the class and interfere with the other kids education.

The difference is those other thing don't effect the other kids in the classroom. As long as religion is practiced on a personal level and doesn't distrupt other people it should be permitted.

I think we can in this case. This isn't someone who has some weird Hatian Voodoo ritual to do or someone who wants to wear a Buddhist robe all day. This is someone dressed up as a pirate and when got told to stop being a twat he said "but it's my religion so fuck you!"

I think what a lot of people fail to see here is that the FSM is more a parody on religion than it is an actual religion, and anyone who actually believes in it or pulls this crap at their school is a fucking moron.

They generally don't allow non-middle-eastern beleifs to be openly expressed, yet every day certain people in my school go around wearing shirts that are about how all heathens are going to burn in hell, and yet I got in trouble for wearing a shirt that says the beleif in a magical, world-creating jewish zombie who wants me to love him so I can live forever is more rediculous than the promise of 72 virgins after death
