Well sure, they'd have a right to get mad if he was suspended for wearing say, a turban or a sarong, but dressing up...like a pirate...for an obscure, internet joke cult that worships a flying spaghetti monster, that's nothing to put in the papers.

Stupid religion for stupid twats. Schools should ban idiots like that.
Thank you for being open minded, accepting and tolerant of others. You are a credit to humanity as a species.
Dont get me wrong im open minded for people who follow something honest and decent but this is just a childish excuse for attention.
And no he does not truly believe in this religion, nobody does and nobody could convince me otherwise. Its just a childish fad.

The fact is that every religion was just made up or hallucinated so that doesn't make it any less of a religion and he was just wearing what he thought he should he wasn't throwing it at people
Not a fact, but your belief.

What this kid was doing was not practicing a religion but being an asshole in order to get attention. The fact it has reached 17 pages on this forum is something of a dismay.

But we can't know if that was his belief or not

This thread was half way to the grave, and someone had to use their fucking necromancy on it?

Uhm... we have to use some judgement and common sense in these matters. A kid wants to unobtrusively wear a crucifix? Ok. A kid wants to bring the Koran to read at dinner time? Fine. A kid wants to be kept out of any religious classes because he is an atheist? Great. A kid wants to dress a pirate all day and go "ye arr matey!"? No. That would obviously distrupt the class and interfere with the other kids education.

The difference is those other thing don't effect the other kids in the classroom. As long as religion is practiced on a personal level and doesn't distrupt other people it should be permitted.

A kid wants to be kept out of any religious classes because he is an atheist?
We can do that?!

OP: I see what you're saying and he was probably taking the piss but the fact is we can't be sure.

If not you definitely should be able too. I find shoving any kind of religion (or non-religion) down the throats of those who don't wish to have that religion as utterly abhorrent.

I think we can in this case. This isn't someone who has some weird Hatian Voodoo ritual to do or someone who wants to wear a Buddhist robe all day. This is someone dressed up as a pirate and when got told to stop being a twat he said "but it's my religion so fuck you!"

I think what a lot of people fail to see here is that the FSM is more a parody on religion than it is an actual religion, and anyone who actually believes in it or pulls this crap at their school is a fucking moron.

If you don't believe in god just be an atheist like the rest of us.

Lol, the funny thing is the FSM is more logical because we know spaghetti exists and we can make it fly. xD

what I think is, ban all religious attire from schools. good decision.
But they don't. They generally don't allow non-middle-eastern beleifs to be openly expressed, yet every day certain people in my school go around wearing shirts that are about how all heathens are going to burn in hell, and yet I got in trouble for wearing a shirt that says the beleif in a magical, world-creating jewish zombie who wants me to love him so I can live forever is more rediculous than the promise of 72 virgins after death
Well you would, because you are just being an asshole and getting in other peoples faces. That's kinda what you aren't supposed to do to other human beings whether you agree with their personal beliefs or not, unless you are a complete sociopath who delights tearing down what other people hold dear, in which case go you!

His point is that they're allowed to get in other peoples faces, but he isn't.

What does that mean? Someone else being an asshole does not give me license to be an asshole. Same applies to him.

This is awesome, I just picked up a copy of the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster to celebrate this amazingly brave kid. Kudos and thank you for introducing me to my new noodly loving master.

Without him there would be no gravity and without pirates we would live in a blazing inferno of heat, apparently.
