but maybe it was more than a joke to himPegghead said:Well sure, they'd have a right to get mad if he was suspended for wearing say, a turban or a sarong, but dressing up...like a pirate...for an obscure, internet joke cult that worships a flying spaghetti monster, that's nothing to put in the papers.
Dont get me wrong im open minded for people who follow something honest and decent but this is just a childish excuse for attention.Void(null) said:Thank you for being open minded, accepting and tolerant of others. Not a fact, but your belief.Eoin Livingston said:The fact is that every religion was just made up or hallucinated so that doesn't make it any less of a religion and he was just wearing what he thought he should he wasn't throwing it at peoplejedi88 said:Blah Blah

What this kid was doing was not practicing a religion but being an asshole in order to get attention. The fact it has reached 17 pages on this forum is something of a dismay.
Uhm... we have to use some judgement and common sense in these matters. A kid wants to unobtrusively wear a crucifix? Ok. A kid wants to bring the Koran to read at dinner time? Fine. A kid wants to be kept out of any religious classes because he is an atheist? Great. A kid wants to dress a pirate all day and go "ye arr matey!"? No. That would obviously distrupt the class and interfere with the other kids education.Eoin Livingston said:*Facepalm*cuddly_tomato said:Not a fact, but your belief.Eoin Livingston said:The fact is that every religion was just made up or hallucinated so that doesn't make it any less of a religion and he was just wearing what he thought he should he wasn't throwing it at people

But we can't know if that was his belief or not
We can do that?!cuddly_tomato said:A kid wants to be kept out of any religious classes because he is an atheist?Eoin Livingston said:*Facepalm*cuddly_tomato said:Not a fact, but your belief.Eoin Livingston said:The fact is that every religion was just made up or hallucinated so that doesn't make it any less of a religion and he was just wearing what he thought he should he wasn't throwing it at people

If not you definitely should be able too. I find shoving any kind of religion (or non-religion) down the throats of those who don't wish to have that religion as utterly abhorrent.Eoin Livingston said:We can do that?!cuddly_tomato said:A kid wants to be kept out of any religious classes because he is an atheist?Eoin Livingston said:*Facepalm*cuddly_tomato said:Not a fact, but your belief.Eoin Livingston said:The fact is that every religion was just made up or hallucinated so that doesn't make it any less of a religion and he was just wearing what he thought he should he wasn't throwing it at people

I think we can in this case. This isn't someone who has some weird Hatian Voodoo ritual to do or someone who wants to wear a Buddhist robe all day. This is someone dressed up as a pirate and when got told to stop being a twat he said "but it's my religion so fuck you!"Eoin Livingston said:OP: I see what you're saying and he was probably taking the piss but the fact is we can't be sure.
Well you would, because you are just being an asshole and getting in other peoples faces. That's kinda what you aren't supposed to do to other human beings whether you agree with their personal beliefs or not, unless you are a complete sociopath who delights tearing down what other people hold dear, in which case go you!Deshara said:But they don't. His point is that they're allowed to get in other peoples faces, but he isn't.cuddly_tomato said:Well you would, because you are just being an asshole and getting in other peoples faces. What does that mean? Someone else being an asshole does not give me license to be an asshole. Same applies to him.Abengoshis said:His point is that they're allowed to get in other peoples faces, but he isn't.cuddly_tomato said:Well you would, because you are just being an asshole and getting in other peoples faces.
