Although, to be fair, movies aren't really my favourite form of media. I prefer books and comics, and when it comes to animation/live action I prefer tv-series over movies as a format because they can take their time.

The only Hitchcock film I've ever seen is Rear Window, and that was kickass. Maybe I'll have to watch Vertigo sometime.

But it's art, everyone has their own opinion. I love both Vertigo and Citizen Kane, but if I could make a Top 100 list I'd put Spirited Away at the top because Miyazaki is my idol.

Spirited Away? I'd think Grave of the Fireflies or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind would be better choices for best Miyazaki Film.
Vertigo screwed up in the storytelling department by revealing the truth of the girl he'd been chasing too early, and the answer was implausible, then it had a ridiculous, frankly laughable ending. Harvey's a better J Stewart movie and I'd take ANY Hitchcock movie over Vertigo. Even THE BIRDS.
Citizen Kane is not the best movie ever for several reasons. It's boring, for one. Its message and riffs are not very relevant to modern times. And, by 1941, all of the supposed 'firsts' it achieved were already being done in foreign cinema.
A lot of people in here have it right. 2001: A Space Oddyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, Psycho, there are so many better choices.
Star Wars V, Alien, T2, The Matrix, Jurassic Park, The Crow, The Dark Knight, even Avatar gave us great reasons to go to the theaters, (even if the storyline had issues, it won't matter much for people who put visuals and music ie: the 'experience' ahead of the story).
Then there's all those respectable war movies like Saving Private Ryan and Apocalypse Now. The amazing storytelling from Pixar ... 'til recently.
My favorite movie? The Last of the Mohicans. Subjective!

First of all, I regard anyone who tries to tell me what the best of something subjective is, as being pretentious at best, and insulting at worst.
Ignoring that, however, I still don't agree with them. Personally, I think that Citizen Kane is a way better movie than Vertigo.
Fight Club is one of the few movies I can think of that I can discover something new in, every time I watch it. There's an amazing amount of detail in that movie, and for that, I'd say it warrants quite a few viewings.

I think Citizen Kane became thee movie you state to show how awesome you are with movies. Especially when know one watches it. I would put many movies first over this, Evil Dead 2, Aliens and Lord of the Rings....these are movies I watch all the time. Some movies are just great of their time....not in history.
