The tavern girl sat crouched in the bushes, processing the information she had just heard announced, temporarily forgetting about her companion in the excitement. She felt a deep pang inside her, envying the blank page of adventure just waiting to be written in... but not by her. She would spend her days pouring drinks and avoiding stray hands while someone else would embark on such a quest. She sat hidden in the bushes, thousands of people she had never seen before streaming past, a few caught her eye, raising an eyebrow, but none who showed any recognition or desire to deviate from their duties. She felt more relaxed. No one here knows me she thought to herself, realizing she was probably drawing more attention to herself by sneaking around than if she just walked through the crowd. But she had worked in the tavern for so long, there was still a high risk of being recognized, especially since she was still adorned in her tavern attire. If only she had some kind of disguise, then she could walk freely among the crowd.

"Well, th-thank you. Wha-was there anything that you needed? I have... a few extra coins that I don't think I can spend on just myself." Considering what I'd have to buy to burn through this much of it. Sue started chirping at Prudence. "What? Oh, you're fine."

Sais' eyes gleamed with Kias as they walked towards the Barracks. Hehe 100 silver ain't bad, plus a promotion if I come back. She thought as a flash of gold came from Kia, she knew more money meant more fresh birds and rabbit. Sai chuckled "Yes Kia, that means more food." She said walking into the Barracks. She nodded to the other guards as she headed towards her captains office. She knocked on the door and after a gruff "Come In." walked in.

Sai saluted to her captain, a tall man with scars from drunks and small time thieves. His companion, a panther, looked up from it's nap, and with a swish of it's tail went back to sleep.

"At ease, let me guess you want time off to go find the ruins?"

Sai blinked at his guess "Yes Sir."

He grunted and said "Fine, but your the last one. Tell the others." He quickly signed a few papers and handed them to her.

"Thank you sir." She said with a smile and another quick salute.

She walked out of the office. "Sorry guys looks like I'm the last one." She said to the other guards genuinely sorry. They just groaned or snorted as she walked by to her room. She filled a sack with supplies, food, simple medicine, bandages. She walked out of the Barracks "C'mon Kia let's go get some more supplies." She said walking off into the crowds of people with her bow still slung over her shoulder and her swords at her hips.

As she passed a bushes Kia turned and sniffed Familiar , Sai heard in her head. She looked behind to see the the tavern girl. "Hey kinda odd for a tavern girl to be hiding in the bushes don't ya think?

As Lev made his way through the store to buy himself some lighter clothes for the journey, and a thinner coat for those rainy days, he overheard a few of the customers talking about the quest. Listening with a little interest as he picked out his clothes, but ultimately deciding that he wouldn't approach them. He bought his clothes with little to no fuss, and left the store with Tatiana following him, who had been busy observing a red feathered bird inside the shop. If it was because of the bird's colorful appearance, or if she wondered about it's taste, he couldn't really tell.

As he exited the shop and walked over towards the blacksmith, he noticed that Tatiana seemed very preoccupied with some bushes, stealthily stalking up on them, before bumping whatever was inside them with the top of her paw. She seemed naturally curious about the little girl inside them that Lev himself didn't seem to notice.

Kadence hesitated. She was going to be stretching her wages just to get clothes and the basic supplies they needed. She couldn't let the girl pay for clothing but maybe..."We're probably going to need a packhorse to carry the supplies and food. I could use help with that." she admitted.

Garret left her side and began to wander around the shop, carefully avoiding the children. He'd learned from experience that small children had small hands and liked to grab his tail.

"Of course. I, uh, I'll go ahead and follow you around after I get a few clothes for myself." Prudence went over and pulled down a few pairs of clothes very similar to the ones she was wearing.

Zestia pondered how she would go about finding other people interested in the Lord's quest. As she walked, she thought about perhaps announcing her aid, but she didn't want to attract unnecessary attention. She thought about just asking random people, but she wasn't really the social type. Sure, she could talk to a few people, but as soon as a large group appeared or she had to talk to a lot of people, she usually backed down.

Perhaps I could just listen in on some of the conversations that are going on at the moment.

She pondered this and then a thought crossed her mind. She'd probably need to get Crimson and Jade checked out before going. After she'd finished a contract, she usually headed to a blacksmith. Why she forgot it this time, she did not know. She walked along the streets and on a corner, she found a blacksmith. She walked over to the blacksmith and, not taking her hood off or Shade off her shoulders, she heard a familiar clanging and saw the blacksmith.

"Good day to you." Zestia said.
"Good day to you as well." the blacksmith replied. "What can I do for you?"
"I come to ask you to look over my daggers and see if any work on them is needed."
"Hand them over and let me take a look."
Zestia handed Crimson and Jade over to the blacksmith, who started looking over them.
"Small work is needed, most of it on your part. Do you not have a stone to sharpen them?"
"Sadly, I lost it. Might I ask if you have a spare?"
"Luckily, I do. Wait here a moment."
The blacksmith handed Zestia back her daggers and went to the back. After a few moments, he returned with a stone specifically made for sharpening.
"Here you go. Now, I'll need to do a small work on them, though."
"Right." Zestia handed her daggers back to the blacksmith and took the stone. She put it in her pocket and watched as the blacksmith worked on her daggers. He didn't take long and soon, he was done. He handed her back her daggers and she sheathed them.
"Thank you. How much is that?"
"For the stone, that'll be 30 silver. And for the work I did, 10 silver. So a total of 40 silver."
Zestia fetched 40 silver out of her money bag. "Here you go." she said and haded the 40 silver to the blacksmith. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. Have a good day."

Zestia left the blacksmith and began walking along the streets again.

Kadence nodded and turned back to the shirt she'd been inspecting earlier. After about ten minutes she finished picking out her clothes for traveling which amounted to a complete second outfit of vest, shirt, and pants, and a few additional shirts. She was also able to find a decent sized cloak that could serve as a covering in case of cold weather.

Once she had paid for the clothing Kadence folded everything and placed it into her pack. She decided to wait until Pru was finished before leaving the shop area. Kadence spent a few minutes hunting down her Companion then they both went outside. She leaned against the side of the building close to the door. Garret settled down at her feet.

Prudence went around the store and bought five pairs of clothes very similar to hers, but of varying shades of white and brown. She almost took a formal dress, but remembered she wasn't going to need it anymore. She also got a small, warm purse designed for tiny birds like Sue to be comfortable in cold climates and winters. The one they used to have was still at the mansion, and they were going to need it if they ever went North. Pru also picked up a coat much like the one Kadence had gotten.

She walked to the counter and asked for the price on the clothes she was carrying and a traveling pack. It was a lot, but minuscule to what was in Pru's coin purse. She hid the purse while she got out the coin, as not to alarm anyone with how much money she had. When the sale was complete, Prudence neatly placed the clothes in the new bag and went outside to meet with her new partners.

"What do we go and find now?" she asked Kadence. "If you don't mind, I'd like to visit a scribe to see if I can buy any books for the trip."

"Books?" Kadence echoed quietly before replying. "Well...next I was going to try and find a butcher or a baker to get some food to take with us. The scribe's workshop may be on the way. Its not something I visit though so if we can't find the workshop we may have to ask one of the shopkeepers for directions." she put her pack's strap over her head and across her body to settle on her shoulder. The bag was built for carrying messages and goods but Kadence used it for whatever she needed at the time. In this instance, something to carry clothes. And...food. She frowned. Maybe we'll need that packhorse sooner than I thought.

"I'll also be keeping a lookout for a particular Guard friend of mine. If I don't see her out on the street I'll get Garret to hunt her down." Kadence continued as they walked along the street.

The pack felt awkward on Pru's back. She wasn't used to carrying things like it. "Alright, then." Damn. Most people don't read, if they can at all. I hope I could find something, though. A long trip like this will get boring. She followed directly behind Kadence and Garret as they walked down the street.

After traveling down the street for a while Garret suddenly stopped then veered off in a different direction. Curious, Kadence followed. The wolf weaved in and out of the thin crowd and stopped in front of a door to a one of the shops. Kadence looked up and laughed. He had lead them to the butcher's shop.

"You can't possibly be hungry." she teased her Companion. The wolf gazed up at her and she felt a wave of amusement mixed with genuine hunger. "Alright", she conceded, "You may have one reasonably sized piece of meat now. The rest we'll have to get cured and bundled to store."

Kadence paused for a moment before turning to Pru. "Do you have a preference?" she asked. "Usually when I buy meat I get fish, and Garret will eat almost anything so..." She shrugged and her Companion leaned against her leg slightly when he heard his name. Kadence smiled and lay her hand on Garret's head as he sat beside of her patiently waiting for the door to be opened.

The tavern girl froze in her place. She had been recognized! Slowly, she turned around in the bushes to meet the eyes of the kind guard who had given her a tip the previous day. She felt her face burn and smiled awkwardly at the guard, a million thoughts rushing through her mind. She tried to greet her but the words came out as a muffled "Hrrooowww".

"Wha?" Prudence turned her head away from a couple of birds in a tree. "N-no, not really." I hope fish is alright. I don't remember eating it much.

Sai chuckled "Hehe, I take it you weren't expecting to be found. Come on up outta there." She said pulling the waitress out of the bushes. "So Since you're out here, I take it you're gonna try for the ruins?" Sai asked with a smile.

Lev continued walking down the street, trying his best to ignore Tatiana, and only stopping in front of the blacksmith to let her catch up with him. "What was so interesting, anyway?" He asked her as he held up the door for her to enter, following her inside right after. The heat inside was stifling on a good day, this had to be even worse than the room he had rented in the morning, and that was despite the fact that the forge itself seemed separated from the shop. And the amount of people in here didn't make things any better, but still, it was better than the tailor he had just been to.

He approached the counter, as most people seemed to be to busy looking at different weapons, trying to decide which one would best benefit them on the quest. "G'Day, how may I help you?" The smith behind the counter asked, covered in soot and with heat scarred hands. "I need two knives, one durable utility knife, and a fine and precise one, for surgery, and a whetstone to keep it sharp."

The blacksmith seemed to think for a moment before getting two knives from under the counter, "This one should be alright for most usual tasks, it's not especially sharp, but broader and more durable. And this other one is one of the sharpest I have, but it shouldn't be used for fighting or anything else then cutting soft things, to make it so sharp the blade is pretty brittle, and chips easily."

"Those will suffice." Lev said as he paid the man for the knives, the utility one being cheap, the other one, not so. He motioned for Tatiana to follow him again as they both left for the next shop, Tatiana complaining in a low growl at the heat she had to endure while in smith. After some more walking they both arrived at the butcher's shop, and found their way blocked by a pair of women and a dark wolf. "Excuse me, but could you either enter the shop or stop blocking the door?"

Kadence looked up, startled. "Oh, I'm sorry" she replied. She glanced at the stranger's feline Companion before pulling the door to the shop open. She stepped to the side so that Garret could pass then entered the building herself. She left the door open behind her.

As she entered the shop Kadence could hear a steady pounding noise and she looked to the left to spot a large man rhythmically chopping a slab of meat into sections behind a sturdy wooden counter. The meat had been placed a dark wood table covered by a cloth on the top and the man's back was to the counter as he worked. Kadence looked around for anyone who appeared to be an apprentice or assistant but the shop was almost empty, save for a few men and women who were talking amongst themselves quietly. Kadence walked up to the counter and lightly rapped her knuckles on the wood.

The chopping sound ceased and the butcher turned, wiping his hands on a piece of cloth draped over his shoulder. Kadence listed the items that she needed - mostly smoked fish, some salted ham, and a bit of fresh pork for her hungry Companion. It wasn't enough food for an entire long trip but it was enough to last them until the next town or city.

The butcher nodded in response to her requests and went to retrieve the items. Kadence stepped over toward the side wall of the shop to wait. Garret sat down beside of her. Every now and again his muzzle would go up and he would look in the direction of the counter before returning his gaze to the doorway.

Prudence covered her nose from the smell of the shop. Ugh, the stench is horrible down here! It must be all the meat from the butcher. She looked to her side at Sue who didn't seem as affected by it. The bird kept watching people on the street passing by, wondering where they were all going. She also wondered when they were going to get seed for her. Pru looked up from her friend to Kadence. "So, how long does this usually take," she asked, removing her hand for a second.

Lev and Tatiana stepped into the shop after the two strangers and their companions, Tatiana had noticed Sue first, and had looked at her as if considering if she had enough meat on her to be worth the energy to catch. But now that they were inside she had instead focused her attention at the numerous wrapped pieces of meat, and the large chunk of fresh meat behind the counter.

Lev could see the hunger in his companions eyes as she started walking off towards the counter with soft steps, keeping her gaze upon the slab of meat. "Tatiana. Back." He said in a commanding voice, he was very sure of what would happen if he just let her continue, and it would end with a lot less money in his pocket and a lot more meat than he needed.

Tatiana's ears laid back against her head as she turned her head towards Lev, opening her mouth and half growling, half roaring, at him. "No, if you want anything, wait. Or you'll have less meat on the trip." Lev said again, making Tatiana slink back towards him and lay down next to him, her tail moving in agitation as she seemingly tried to ignore Lev by keeping her attention on the nearby window.

The tavern girl was pulled to her feet, feeling very exposed standing in the middle of the street. She pondered the question she was asked. In reality, she would LOVE to be able to find the ruins, but on the other hand, she knew she would never be allowed such a journey. Unable to think of a response, she told the kind guard the truth. "I would very much like to pursue such a grand adventure, however, I doubt my chances of ever leaving this town." She admitted with a heavy sigh. It was the first time she had ever admitted her true feelings on such an issue to anyone other than Cora.

Cora! she thought, her eyes widening.

"Um, you're a guard right?" she asked the kind woman, eyeballing her sword. "This might seem like a strange question, but you wouldn't happen to have seen where all the crows got to would have you? I haven't seen them since yesterday."
