Kadence gave Pru an odd look when she saw how the girl had covered her face. "Not too long." she replied. She jumped slightly when the stranger's Companion growled then turned to watch the creature lay down next to His? Her? its partner. She grinned briefly in amusement.

The butcher waved at Kadence to get her attention, holding up a tightly packed bundle and a smaller cloth wrapped piece of meat. She walked to the counter and paid for the items. While putting her coin bag back in her vest she frowned at how light it was. Kadence set the travel food inside of her pack and held the cloth wrapped meat in one hand so that she could give it to Garret later. The wolf had risen to all four paws and made it halfway to the counter when Kadence started walking back toward Pru.

Garret changed direction as she passed him and followed the hand holding his food. "This should last us for a while." She told Pru, patting the pack at her side carefully.

"The crows? No can't say I have." Sai said thinking. "Why do you doubt your chances if I may ask?" Kia began looking up noticing the lack of crows. Sai got a flash of deep blue. Why is she disappointed, she knows crows give her stomach problems.

Prudence walked up closer to Kadence. "So what now?" she asked. "Should we get some other supplies before we go get some books, or, what do we need now?" She really wanted to find something to read. It would make her feel at home.

The tavern girl thought about the question, knowing she could not answer truthfully, as much as her conscience told her it was ok to trust this stranger, yet she would feel too guilty to lie to the kind woman. "Oh.. you know... the tavern would miss me," she said with a strained chuckle, hoping the half truth would suffice. She turned to face the sky and wondered where all the crows had gone.

"Yeah maybe, but hey You'll be back and they can hire someone new in the mean time." Sai said with a smile. "Now how bout it care to tag along with me?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. Kia sat and cocked her head at the tavern girl.

The tavern girl's jaw literally dropped. She's asking me... ME... to go with HER.. on an adventure to discover hidden ruins???? The tavern girl was speechless.

After she recovered from the initial shock of the unexpected proposition, she attempted to gather her thoughts. Many times had she dreamed of such an occasion, a kind stranger walking into her dull and repetitive life, sweeping her away from that wretched tavern and taking her on an adventure beyond the city walls, but never in her wildest dreams did she imagine it would actually happen.

The tavern girl though carefully for a minute, not sure whether to follow her heart, baying for adventure, or her mind, which cautioned her about dropping everything she ever knew so recklessly to chase buried treasures with a woman she barely knew... a woman with a fox. Cora would certainly not approve of travelling along side a fox.

The tavern girl searched the face of the guard... she was serious. Glancing back in the direction of the tavern, the girl decided it was best to think it out first. She had not located her companion yet after all, and it was a decision she would be selfish to make on her own.

"I'll need time to think about it," she said honestly. "Can I meet up with you tonight? I will have decided by then."

Kadence debated for a moment before deciding. "We can look for the scribe's workshop next." she replied. "Then after that I'd like to stop by the bakery."

Books did not really interest Kadence but waiting for Pru would give her time to think about what else they needed for the trip. She wasn't used to planning and didn't want to forget anything important. Kadence looked down at her Companion who was sitting patiently on the floor. The wolf looked up at her face and then down at the wrapped meat she was holding causing Kadence to laugh quietly. Garret knew full well that she always waited until after they left a butcher's shop to give him his portion. His wave of anticipation proved that he remembered and also that he was ready to leave so that he could eat.

Kadence looked back at Pru. "If we can't locate the workshop, one of the Guards may be able to help us. The sign for the place should be fairly visible though." At least, she hoped that it was.

Zestia noticed a guard and the tavern girl from yesteday talking together. She heard the words "tag along" and she assumed they were talking about the quest. She walked up to them.

"Excuse me." Zestia asked the guard and tavern girl. "Are you talking about the Lord's quest? I myself am looking for partners so I can go on the quest."
Shade was still lying on her shoulders, watching the two women Zestia was talking to.

Lev walked up past the pair to the counter, and added a sentence to their conversation. "I suggest going to the apothecary, you look like you'll need it."

He then walked all the way to the counter to order some meat for Tatiana and some smoked and salted meat for himself. Tatiana still lying on the floor looking intently out the window, like she was still angry, or maybe she felt insulted, about the previous reprimand.

"The apothecary..." Kadence echoed the stranger's words as he walked to the counter. "That's not a bad idea." She admitted, though she questioned the man's phrasing. Its not like the two of them were helpless, they could take care of themselves...well, at least she could. With her Companion's assistance of course. Kadence wasn't sure, even with the heirloom sword and technique reading, about Pru's skills.

Kadence mentally calculated how much money she had left. Slightly insulting phrases aside, they probably would need bandages at some point. It was a quest after all. Who knew what they would encounter along the way.

"Thanks...for the reminder." she called to the man.

Lev merely raised his damaged hand in a 'don't mention it' gesture, still with his back turned to them both, "Makes two less cremations." He added as he gave the butcher his silver, and it was quite the amount of silver. 'He must have taken the opportunity to raise his prices... Annoying bastard...', he thought as he bundled it together and carried it underneath his arm. He then walked past the two of them out of the shop, looking around to see if he couldn't spot (Or smell) the tanner, Tatiana following after a short pause, still drooping her head a little and looking grumpy.

"Sure no problem, I have to gather a few things anyway, I'll meet you at..." She said looking around "Ah the apothecary. You know the little pharmacy over there." She said pointing at the sign just visible among the crowd. She turned to the new women with a snake around her neck. Her companion I presume, seeing as it's not bite or strangling her. "Well Sure the more the merrier, I'm Sai. My companion Kia." She said as Kia waged her tail at the mention of her name. "and this is..." She thought for a moment. "Ya know I never learned your name." she said turning to the tavern girl.

"Thank you. My name is Zestia. And this is my companion, Shade. Don't worry, he doesn't bite. Unless I tell him to." she said. Shade looked towards the fox with a look of no emotion.

"You know, she never did tell me her name either when I met her yesterday. But if she doesn't want to tell us her name, that's fine by me." Zestia looked at the two women.

"I might need something in the apothecary as well. If you don't mind, I'd like to accompany you there."

"He seemed helpful." Sue flew halfway to Lev as he left, but came back to Prudence. "So now we go to the apothecary, then? I guess it would be smart to get some things should we get hurt."

Kadence nodded. "Let's head there and we can keep an eye out for the scribe workshop while we walk." She shifted the pack at her side to a more comfortable position. Then she turned and walked toward the butcher's shop door. Her Companion followed closely behind. When she reached the door Kadence held it open so that Garret could exit the building. The wolf walked a few paces outside and sat down to wait for the others. Still holding the door open she looked back at Pru.

"Thank you," Prudence said as she walked out the door. She started walking down the street with Kadence. "Can I ask you, this? Do you really believe there is a ruin, or are you just hoping there is one because of the reward? It is a large one."

Kadence swung the wrapped pork in her hand back and forth as she pondered the question. "I believe that the king believes there are Ruins. Does that make sense? The quest itself seemed like an adventure when he announced it. Having to find something hidden. I like the idea of an adventure. And..." she paused for a second. "And my family could use the reward money. So...I suppose I am kind of hoping the Ruins exist, for them. If I saw some kind of proof with my own eyes, maybe I'd believe too. But until then..."

Kadence trailed off and slowed down her walk as she stepped to the side of the street. She untied the cloth secured around the pork meat and set the meat down on the ground using the cloth edges. Garret started eating as soon as she stepped back. It didn't take the wolf long to finish the meal and when he was through Kadence folded up the cloth and stuck it in her pocket. Garret sent her a wave of satisfaction and made a show of licking his muzzle. Kadence grinned at her Companion. The two resumed their normal walking speed.

"Everyone has a right to hope, I suppose. I don't think there is one, though. It doesn't make any sense for it to exist, deep inside a cave, no less. I just needed a reason to get out of this city. Durkon told me that the best way to forget the past is to create a future, or maybe that's just how I interpreted him." Just then she noticed Sue flying off. The bird stopped right in front of a stall selling various items for aerial companions. "Silly bird," Pru said as she walked up to the stall. She bought some seed and a few treats before getting back to Kadence.

"Create a future huh? Interesting." Kadence said. She thought about the description of the ruins. "I didn't think about the cave part. Now I do wonder how the king expects us to find something that's under the ground." She looked at Garret but the wolf just looked back in silence. "Maybe there's a way to these ruins that doesn't involve falling in a hole." she continued. "That would be nice." If the ruins exist of course...

As they neared the next group of shops the crowd thinned out and it became easier to see the signs. Aha. Kadence pointed to a sign that was still a bit farther down the street. "I think that's the apothecary. I haven't seen the scribe's workshop yet though, have you?" she asked.

"Hmm. No, I haven't. I guess we should get supplies here, then." Prudence and Sue followed Kadence into the shop. It smelled of herbs that assaulted the senses in many contrary ways. "So what do we need here?" she asked.
