Viktorya watched Lev leave as he left his money and walked out of the doors of the tavern into the cold dimming night, his Companion in toe.

Viktorya sat down and drank her ale, before looking out of a near-by window. It was already far too late to visit the smithy now, The man from the North and the tavern had pre-occupied her for the entire evenning.

She got up as she urged the bear up to follow her, it complied with a sluggish Yawn, it was sleepy regardless of the fact it had done nothing but sleep the entire day. She stepped out into the Night, its cold chill doing nothing to lessen the crowds of people who still celebrated with friends and lovers in the Streets and alleys.

She looked at the stary sky before Heading into the crowds, a little bit of wandering and exploring the night life and then she'd head back to the Inn for another rest.

I wont be here till Saturday at 5 PM BST, have to go to a funeral, sorry all, someone can control my character should the need arise, Sorry once again, ill post reguraly soon.

[Nightfall...Daybreak]

It is now the second day of the celebration. All characters should make their way to, or stay within hearing distance of, the city square after you wake up/get off duty/eat breakfast/what-have-you. A crowd has already begun to form and trumpets are sounding to declare the second day of celebration officially begun. Guards are stationed around the king and his advisers, and the people of importance are seated on a raised platform/stage in the middle of the city square. Once most characters are up and awake and in the area the announcement will be read.

"Father has just finished instructed me to keep the celebration notes today. On the one hand, I am very excited. This is the first time I have been given such an official task. But I am also worried. Father is very distracted right now.

I suppose it all started last night, when a messenger came to our door and handed Father a sealed copy of the King's announcement. I saw the official seal when Father took the paper.

Father stayed up all night reading it. I know because Mother scolded him about not sleeping.

Then, after breakfast this morning Father gave my older brother Peryn a letter of some sort and told him to take his horse and ride to Father's hometown as fast as he could. Mother was upset that Peryn would miss the big announcement. But Father was insistent. Even in making sure my brother took Bernaht -that's Father's Companion- along with him. My brother was not pleased.

After my brother left I asked Father about the letter. But he would not tell me what it was nor why my brother had to leave. That is when he gave me instructions to help with the notes today.

...I don't know why Father won't tell me anything...and now he is calling for me. I must go take notes."

Kadence was awakened abruptly by a cold nose pushing against her hand. She opened her eyes to see Garret gazing back at her. The wolf was already up and awake, and apparently alert. Kadence was not as good at waking as her Companion, so she took a few minutes to stretch and recognize her surroundings.

Durkon's room was small and only contained a mattress on a wooden frame and a small table. The table wobbled unsteadily as Kadence gathered her things from it on the way to the door, and then again as she was followed closely by her Companion. She opened the door slowly and then walked down the hallway into the main room. There seemed to be no one else awake, as Kadence heard no sounds of movement other than her own footsteps and Garret's claws on the floor. She approached the front door and debated leaving. Garret walked up to the door and stood beside of her in anticipation of her opening the door.

But then Kadence decided to wait and see if either of her two recent acquaintances would wake up soon. She turned and located one of the wooden seats and sat down in it. Garret stayed by the door for a few minutes, then walked over to where she was sitting.

The wolf stood in front of Kadence and waited. After a few minutes Garret realized his partner wasn't going to move so he lay down on the floor and put his head between his paws. Kadence smiled briefly and reached down to pat his side.

"Sorry." She told him. "But I think we should stay here for a bit longer."

There was population noise outside and distantly Kadence heard someone laughing. A child perhaps. She leaned back in the chair and stretched her feet out to get comfortable. Then she waited.

Prudence stirred awake. She had cried herself to sleep last night, and the bed wasn't anything like she was used to. Sue had an unrestful sleep as well, but still a better one then her partner. She chirped happily as Prudence awoke, trying to wake her up faster. It caused her to grumble, but she stood up with the help. Pru had not changed her clothes, for she had none to change into.

"Yes, good morning to you, too, Sue," she said as she walked over to pet her. "You have the brightest mood no matter how terrible the day is." The bird chirped in replay. "You already know the answer, so why do you ask? It only causes me to think about it." More chirps. "Why are you apologizing? I'm alright, my dear. Now come. Let's see if Durkon has prepared anything."

They walked out of the room and found Durkon asleep on the floor of the smith. He was using the anvil as his pillow. "Durkon, how could you sleep like this?" The old man groaned and snorted as he was abruptly woken up.

"Ah, good morning Prudence." He smiled as he threw his legs out from the blanket. "What can this man do for you this fine dawn?"

"I was wondering if maybe you could prepare something for us to eat," she asked, a little held back.

"All you had to do was say something." Durkon heaved up onto his feet and made for the kitchen. "Anything you had in mind?"

"Anything that you can make, Durkon."

"Course." He trailed off and started to prepare some toast and bacon. Meanwhile, Pru and Sue entered the main room and saw Kadence sitting.

"Nice to see you," she said. "I'm sorry for taking the bed last night. It was very rude." She curtsied, at the stranger.

Kadence had begun to doze off but opened her eyes and sat up straight when she heard someone walking down the hall. Garret remained on the floor as Pru and her Companion entered the room but he did raise his head to look at the two of them.

Kadence smiled as Pru curtsied. It seemed awfully formal. "Its alright." she replied. "Durkon was kind enough to lend me the of use his bed for the night. Do you know if he is awake? I'd like to thank him again if I can." Kadence leaned over in the chair and tried to look down the hall but didn't see the man. She frowned and made a note to thank Durkon later. Kadence turned back to Pru.

"Nice to see you too. How are you this morning?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. She recalled that the girl had been rather upset.

Zestia woke up to the sound of trumpets. Shade was lying at her feet on her bed, awake and looking at her.

"A new day, another day of celebration. Damn, those are loud when you wake up." She got out of bed and headed towards the washroom. There, she bathed, dried herself and put her clothes on, then walked down to the kitchen. Landon was already awake and had made breakfast.

"Good morning. I hope you are hungry."

"I am, Father." Zestia sat down at the table and started eating. Landon sat down across from her and ate as well. When they had finished eating, they washed the dishes and went out to train a bit.

"Durkon is preparing a lunch for us in the kitchen right now." Prudence sat down on a chair across from Kadence. "But as for me? Well, I'm better then I was last night. I think it would be best if I just get out of the city. Maybe it will help me to forget my woes." Sue chirped up. "Yes, we can go into a forest." The bird happily sung as Pru chuckled. "We won't go if you don't behave, though." She barely noticed the words.

Sai stood behind the rest of the guards. I can't believe we were actually chosen to be part of the Kings Guard for today. She thought happily looking around an arrow notched in her bow. She got a flash of blue in agreement from Kia. Their happiness was quickly put aside, they had a job to do after all. Sure she missed not being able to celebrate, but this was going to be an important part in her career.

"Well that's nice of him." Kadence commented. Now that food was mentioned, she realized she was hungry. Her Companion could probably use food too, though he wasn't sending her any indication that he was hungry. Then again, her Companion never turned down food. "I'm glad you are feeling better." she continued.

Garret looked up at Sue as the bird chirped. Kadence also looked up as Pru mentioned forests.

"A forest?" She grinned. "There's plenty of those outside of the city. Forest and mountains. Well, at least where I live that's what is around. There's lots of farmland in between here and there though. And some small towns..." Kadence trailed off and leaned back in her chair.

"Sue hasn't been in a forest since Durkon brought us back to the city. That was when I first met him. He's a great man, he is." Prudence glanced back to the kitchen. They could hear him cooking. "I sort of ran away when my parents didn't want me going out on the Trial. They sent out a bounty and he was the first one to find me. It was rather ridiculous, as I was already on my way back." Sue had calmed down for now.

"Your parents put a bounty on you?" Kadence repeated in disbelief, sitting up in her chair. Garret stood up on all fours and stretched. Then he looked at his partner briefly. The wolf moved closer to put his head on his partner's knee and Kadence felt a wave of curiosity from him. Absentmindedly she scratched behind one silver tipped ear. Garret's head tilted to one side and his curiosity faded into contentment as Kadence spoke again.

"That seems a bit...extreme." she said. 'And wait...Durkon is a bounty hunter?' Kadence thought.

"It was for bringing me back completely unharmed. If there was so much as a scratch on my cheek the hunter wouldn't get payed anything." Prudence pet Sue's head with her finger. "I don't think it was uncalled for, though. They believed that I had been kidnapped, and that was the easiest way to find me. The kidnappers would take me back home for the money, and bounty hunters would have killed them to also get the pay. Either way, they would have gotten me back."

"Ah." Kadence nodded slowly. It made sense...sort of. "When they realized you were gone they assumed you were in trouble..." She stopped scratching Garret's ears and the wolf chose to lay down on the floor at her feet. Well, on her feet to be more precise.

"Why didn't your parents want you to participate in the Companion Trials?" she asked. "If...you don't mind me asking that is." She knew that some parents had personal reasons for not allowing their children to participate. Kadence just didn't know any of those people firsthand.

She remembered when her cousins had their trials, a few years back. Her uncle and aunt had been happy for their children and excited at the prospect of being the first to see them successfully return from their Trials. Kadence herself had been out delivering messages the day that the children had succeeded, but she had heard all about it upon her return.

Kadence looked at Pru and wondered.

"Because they were afraid that I wouldn't be able to survive on my own. They tried to send an escort with me, but I wouldn't accept it. First off, I don't believe it's right. The Trial is a trial, not a nice walk through the woods. Second, they would have made me get an owl, and I never liked owls. They're big, and mean, and Sue here is much better." The bird cocked its head up as if to be proud. "My family has always had owls as their companions. I shouldn't be forced into it because of a silly tradition."

The tavern girl rustled on her bedroll, strong sunlight filtering in from under the old wooden door and into her eyes, rousing her from her sleep. She lay there for a minute, waiting for reality to sink in, still lost among the quickly fading figures of her dreams. She felt an odd sensation of comfortable peace. The tavern was eerily quiet but a dim cacophony of a crowd of people hummed somewhere in the distance.

She lay peacefully on her bedroll for a while, watching unknown shadows dancing somewhere beyond the door, casting lines of light and shadow across the dusty floor. The peace of sleep fading, she remembered where she was. The tavern girl sat bolt upright. Oh no!! Cora!!! So exhausting had her day previous day been that she had sat down on her bedroll and collapsed into sleep without supper, but more disturbingly, without checking in with her companion. She got up with alarming speed, still dressed in the clothes of the previous day, and burst out into the tavern. It was deserted, without giving it further thought, she ran out into the back section and gazed up into the tree where Cora usually roosted in the morning. The harsh sunlight hurt her eyes, it must have been at least mid morning, her eyes took a few seconds to adjust to the intensity of the outside light and the individual branches of the tree faded into focus, Cora was not there.

She panicked, fearing the worst, and raced back into the tavern. The tavern was empty and silent, a hand written 'Closed until noon' sign was propped up in the single, small window on the front wall. She looked around the deserted building, her father was out it seemed, none of this made sense. She scanned her memory for an explanation, she had been so preoccupied with the unusual patrons the previous day she had not bothered to eavesdrop on the usual chatter and rumours of the locals. The tavern girl worried, Where is Cora?? She cast her gaze at the back wall. Never had she left the tavern during the day, but then again, rare were the opportunities when her father was not present. She stood there pondering for a moment. Is it worth the risk? The image of Cora, her beautiful companion, flashed through her mind.

Yes. I would risk everything for him

Kadence nodded, then looked a bit uneasy at Pru's words. "I agree with you there." she said. "I don't know what I would have done if I had been told I had to pick a certain type of Companion." It sounded so...unfair.

The way Pru described her family sparked something in Kadence's memory. Her father had mentioned something once, a long time ago that sounded like what Pru spoke of. What did he call them...'Pure'? Pure families...that sounded about right. Kadence frowned. 'So...she's from one of those ...interesting.'

Garret sensed her change in mood and shifted up off of her feet. The dark wolf sat up so that he was next the chair his partner was seated in. Kadence reached out to run a hand through her Companion's fur and smiled briefly.

"It's good that you were able to choose your own Companion." she said. "You two seem to fit well together."

Sue chirped at Kadence. "She says 'thank you,' and so do I. So what about--" Prudence was cut off by Durkon coming into the room, carrying three plates of toast and bacon. He also had another plate of just the bacon.

"Lunch," he said. "Got some bread and meat here." He placed the fourth plate down on the floor, and the other three on the table. He sat down in between the two woman. "Go ahead and eat. I don't usually cook up this kind of meal."

Garret ducked under the table toward the plate of bacon as Durkon set it on the floor. Then he paused and turned to stick his head back out and look at Kadence. The wolf's partner laughed softly and nodded. Garret continued toward the plate and picked a piece of bacon to gnaw on. Kadence thanked Durkon for the meal and took a piece of toast off of the plate closest to her. She ate a few bites of the bread.

Lev stirred slightly in his sleep as Tatiana bumped her nose against his head, trying to wake him not all that gently. But seeing as it had little effect except making him roll around, she began growling before roaring loudly next to his bed, making Lev jolt upright and attempt to untangle himself from the sheets. Finally managing to untangle himself, Lev looked around the room with a mixture of light sleepiness and confusion, obviously not completely awake yet, but getting there.

Tatiana took this opportunity to bite hold of Lev's shirt sleeve and drag him to the floor, where he landed with a thud, finally knocking him awake for good.

"Gah! Alright, alright! I'm awake!" He responded as he got to his feet, slightly rubbing his elbow from it hitting the floor. "What's with you this morning, usually you're content to sleep until I wake you..." He said as the sound of blaring trumpets and cheering reached his ear.

"... Right. Couldn't sleep through that I reckon." He said as he put on his pants and changed his shirt, deciding to drop the coat and pack today as well, the heat in this room was still stifling.

Later on, he walked downstairs with Tatiana and ordered some breakfast for them both, deciding that he would stay inside for a little while before seeing if he couldn't find the shop he was looking for.

Badelin managed to wake up before the sun appeared on the sky. He woke up and went to eat something after which he visited Dax. He groomed the stallion after which they went for a gallop around the city. During the gallop, Badelin could only notice that a crowd seemed to gather around the city centre so he decided that it would be best to finish the gallop and check what was going on.

He took Dax back to the stables and gave him a goodbye pat on his head and left him after making sure to leave him enough food and water.

Badeln reached the city centre in a matter of minutes since it was so close to the inn but now a new problem presented itself. There was such a big crowd that he couldn't see what was going on.

So he decided that it would be best to climb up a building and observe what was going on from it's rooftop. He backed away a bit from the crowd and when no one was looking, the assassin seized the opportunity. After a few seconds of climbing he sat on the edge of the rooftop, feeling the breeze of the morning's fresh air on his face, which immediately invigorated him. From his perched position he was able to get a clear view of the entire city centre.

Sam had walked down the street and to the inn. He casually bought a room and walked up to it. When he reached the bed, he passed out onto it. For some reason, he was much more tired than usual. Echo flew to the bedpost, and with perfect balance, fell asleep. All he had to do was close his eyes and he was dead asleep.

"Hoo-hoo hoooooo hoo-hoo" Echo hooted, trying to wake Sam up. But it didn't work. It was like Sam was dead all of a sudden. He never had this problem back in the woods. Echo stays there for a few minutes, almost stalking Sam. He gave one last hoot to try and wake him up, before he struck. He dive-bombed into Sam. "GAH!" Sam was surprised, he fell out of the bed he was in and landed with a thud. "Oh my. Echo, don't ever do that again. Please." Echo snapped his beak a few times, and fluffed his wings. Sam reached into the pouch of his deerskin jacket, and took out a mouse, "If it'll make ya happy." Sam said, and it did. Echo grabbed it with his beak and swallowed it whole.

Sam looked outside. He could see tiny bits of sunlight on the horizon, but the town was still darkened. Sam looked at Echo. He got up and opened the window so that Echo could fly out. "Not too late ya hear?" Sam said, as Echo dropped from the inn. The next thing Sam could see was Echo flying straight up, his wings covering the windows for a split second before Echo was gone.

Sam walked back to his bed, and fell into it. He relaxed, and then fell back asleep.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sam was awoken again to the snapping of Echo's beak. During Echo?s time outside, he managed to have gotten a squirrel. A fairly large one to. The squirrel had a huge gash going vertically on its body, clearly from Echo's talons. He looked outside; the sun was in the sky and illuminating the town through the clouds and such. He couldn't see anywhere he would like to go, so he decided to stay in the room.
