Prudence was crying into a pillow as she thought. Oh daddy, I hate you! I'm sorry for running out and hurting your Bishop, but I told you I couldn't stay in the house alone, anymore! You knew I was going to come back and still you shoot me in the heart! I just want to come home, daddy! I just want to come home...
Sue, on the other side of the door, listened to Pru's crying. She chirped to try to cheer her partner up, but she didn't hear. Taking to pecking at the door, Pru eventually got up and let the little bird in. Sue flew around her head a few times in cheer and then landed on her left shoulder, as always. Prudence still had tears in her eyes, and the bird chirped at her to try and help.
"... I'm sorry, Sue, but I forgot. ... No I didn't mean to shut you out! I let you in didn't I? ... Yes, I'm crying about home. ... Not after what I did to Bishop! Father will kill me if I go back now. ... I did apologize! You heard me! ... The next time I'll see my father is when he comes to visit us in the jail house. ... I attacked a companion willing, Sue! That is a criminal offense! ... True. But we still will have to testify in front of a judge, and he'll rule that I belong to my father, and I'll get sent back to the house where I won't ever get to read another book, again! He'll throw you in Bishop's cage and let that blasted owl do whatever he wants to you! ... My father is a rich man, Sue. He won't get caught..."
Prudence had taken back to crying into the pillow. Sue sat on a wardrobe nearby, ready to make things better any way she could.
