I do not approve of this, too many educated people leave their country for employment elsewhere, it's called brain drain and it hurts the country you came from.
So? It's called freedom of choice; your country should entice you to work there, it shouldn't just expect allegiance.

Their milk comes in bags.
Um, no, it doesn't.
Some parts it does!

Also isn't the West Edmonton mall the biggest in the world?
In what province doesn't it? In BC and Ontario they sell milk in bags (as well as cartons and plastic jugs depending on where you go). What don't they sell it in bags in the states?

Canada's pretty good.

Although for me, I'd rather move to US. Or at least have some kind of dual citizenship. Owning guns for the win... and as long as it's not some kind of redneck bible-thumper state it couldn't possibly be all that bad.
Ummm... you can own guns in Canada.
Sort of, but it's way stricter then in USA.

Or you could just go without. Apparently crime in Canada is quite low. Presumably because it's so cold =P

Also, woo Canada!

I'd argue that's a good thing though. I guess opinions on gun control, like almost everything else, depend on the culture in which you were raised
Yeah, jumping into a pro-/anti- gun flamewar would not be advisable.

And it's not so much about culture as it is about political views and generic blind idealism =D

What do I care for crime rate? It still exists, with guns too, and it will continue to exist forever. A society that DOESN'T have crimes sounds like it's a lot more messed up to me... Crime rate means that the society still has the rebellious element and people who don't agree with the laws and choose to spit on them. It's better to have a very low risk of being hurt in a crime then live in a place full of boring politically-correct zombies. Either way, if you're gonna die, you'll probably get into a car crash because it's way more likely.

And it's not cold at all here in Toronto, at least not this year. Probably one of the hottest summers ever =p

I always got the impression Canada was a snowy place. Then again I think that way about every place on my latitude. Ah well.

Well, as the poster above pointed out, it has a lot to do with how much crime is in your country too. America has a lot of crime, and they must feel the need to defend themselves. I have never even seen a crime here in Edmonton, and Edmonton is fairly bad for crime.
Crimes don't happen that often. Population-wise, you're pretty unlikely to see anything serious happen unless you're in either really shady areas or the criminal/the victim.

I mean, here in Toronto I bet there might be like a dozen homicides every year, maybe less... And the population is in millions. Even if it was 1000 homicides, most people wouldn't have noticed.

Of course, if you consider all the small illegal things everyone does like jaywalking, underage drinking (especially if you're doing it =p) and stuff, that you've got a good chance of experiencing.

Country
USA
10 years ago, it was a running joke to make fun of Canada for not being the USA. Now I to am considering moving there as well. I don't know if it was 9/11, but our country is just fucked now and I'm sick of it. I live in Washington, so the climate won't be that much different if I just move a few miles north. I could go as far north as Alaska and still be fine honestly. I really don't know how much better Canada has it over the US, but I feel like this boat is sinking and moving out may be a good idea.

I'd ask where you got your degree in criminology, but I don't think I'd get an answer that makes sense.

Well considering when I think of Canada I think of people coming here because of the opportunity and such... no I don't dislike foreign workers, or foreigners in general. Although I would really prefer them to know English (or French if they want to live in some of the east coast), and if they have a heavy accent, for them to not get angry at me when I don't get them the first time.

*Readies shotgun*

Seriously I don't know though, I'm going to say that you'll just be in the same bag as any European, that may be good or bad. The towns surrounding me are mostly Italian/Indian and to the best of my knowledge there isn't much hate there.

Maybe some of the Territories are (NW territories, Yukon, Nunavut) are, but down in the provinces it gets hot in summer.

I'll wait for you to get your hat from the ceiling.

OT: Like it has been said, it's a great place to live, plus more left wing (something to me is a major plus), free healthcare due to our taxes (13% here in Ontario).

You'll be fine, just don't pay too much attention to Steven Harpor, it will only make you angry.

I'll be honest, though, with the OP. If you want something more liberal than the Bible belt, there's places in the US that'll do the trick. I mean, we have cities like LA, Sacramento, NYC, Boston and Chicago that are quite liberal. I've lived in NYC mostly, and I can say that it's actually a pretty nice place to live as long as you're expecting to live in an apartment for a while. We don't give a damn about college football and sweet tea either.

All I'm saying is that while American politics suck ass, we still have the better corporations. Inquire just about everywhere you think you'd like to live about a job and pick the best one, rather than move first and ask second.

Hmm, moving abroard for the music? Anyway, Canada seems to be more "laid back" in general and more liberal.
This statement alone is enough to get me excited, especially since I'm coming from the American Southeast, AKA the heavily conservative, morally oppressive Bible Belt.
Then you'll be in for a shock with our gay-marriage-allowing and marijuana-decriminalizing society. It is a very open society, people are more laid back and polite than most Americans. Also, you shall learn to love hockey, or die trying.

Edit: If you want a challenge, move to Nova Scotia, we have Alexander Keith's and Trailer Park Boys!
Fuck yeah!
