Same has happened to me, but sometimes your imagination gets the better of you. Perhaps it a dim reflection of your own face?
The creepiest thing that happened to me was when I was living in a Trailer/Mobile Home I was in the backroom working on my new Bicycle (Not really knew, I use to bbuild them using other bike parts).
Anyways I'm sitting there, putting a newly acquired fork on my bike, and all is silent. Then out of nowhere I hear this growling sound. I know every animal that hangs out in my neighborhood and nothing made that noise. It sounded like it came from right outisde this big open window. I quickly got up and looked out the window and saw nothing.
Then the sound came again just after I started working again. I just put down my tools, walked out of the room, and started watching "The Green Mile"
Later I found out it was one of my friends in the neighborhood. Asshole hid on top of my trailer by climbing up a nearby tree. Scared the crap out of me. That still pisses me off. I got him back by sabotaging his brake system on his back.
Captain asshole decides to go down this huge hill in the woods with trees on either side of the path.
I think I scared him more. He didn't crash, but damn near completely lost control and hit a tree.
Fun Fact: Since I built my own bikes, when I was still new to it I once had my handle bars break off (Bad weld) in mid air after a I hit a 3 foot tall ramp. Somehow I was able to control the bikes landing using my weight to steer until I could safely stop. I now don't do anything remotely dangerous when I used to be the local daredevil. Having to pay for your own insurance really puts things into perspective.
