Oddly enough that blog links to a non-alarmist article under the 'alarmed' link in the first sentence. Not to say people shouldn't keep an eye on what your representatives are doing in your name, but instead of jumping to conclusions from a single source who seems to be spinning it to appear as nefarious as possible for whatever reason (sensationalism sells, I suppose), why not read the text of the bill (link under 'proposed' in that CBS blog), and gather analyses from multiple locations.

Or better yet, said fear mongers could look at some Escapist news from April.

Lolz this sounds like a conspiracy theory. And it wouldn't have much effect anyway. Trying to control the internet would be like trying to control space. And this would be so expensive, tracking down and putting every single hacker in the U.S. on trial

Why a conspiracy theory? It's a contingency plan in case domestic/international hackers make a huge, cohesive effort to attack our internetz. It's not so they can spy on us, it's so they can protect us and our interests.

The basics of this act are that the government will have full control of the internet in every way shape and form. In 1 years time they will then setup a licensing, certification, and periodic recertification program for cybersecurity professionals. Beginning 3 years after the date of enactment of this Act, it shall be unlawful for any individual to engage in business in the United States, or to be employed in the United States, as a provider of cybersecurity services to any Federal agency or an information system or network designated by the President, or the President's designee, as a critical infrastructure information system or network, who is not licensed and certified under the program.

AKA Government will control ALL public and private IT and Web services giving them effective control of all free enterprise as IT is the heart of Operations of all companies to date.
