Metacritic is a terrible source to base your decision to buy or not buy a game (unless you actually read the reviews). Seriously, they did bomb Dragon Age 2 as well and other sites' user review scores were way higher. Look at the user reviews for Portal on IGN [http://pc.ign.com/articles/116/1162215p1.html] and Gamespot [http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/portal-2/index.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=topten&tag=topten%3Ball%3B2]. The user review score average there are 8.5 and 9.6, respectively.

Of course, things would all be better if we stopped looking at arbitrary numbers to decide a game's worthiness and actually read what people say.

Ahh, the internet, where everyone's who has a negative opinion is trolling. "VEE AR DE DECIDERS OF VHAT IS TROLLING, /v/ IS TROLLING AND IS FASCIST" *Massive irony*
No problem if they were genuine user reviews, but it's an unrepresentative, zealous hate-campaign.
I might agree with you if it was thousands upon thousand of negative reviews, but at the minute, its at 99 bad reviews to 77 good ones on the first day of release, less a campaign and more of a gentle badmouthing. Especially given its proper critic score

Besides, Portal 2 was always going to be a Marmite game, as half the people worship it as if it came from God and the other half hate it because they're either rebelling against popular things or just genuinely unpleasable dicks.

/v/ isn't rating it 0, they know those scores get removed. They're rating it 3-6, which seems fair, especially since they want to counteract the '10' reviews.

I for one am glad that people are taking a stand against DLC.

This may be the wrong way to go about it, but at least they are letting the companies know we're sick and tired of getting shafted by their ridiculous day one DLC bullshit.
You do realize the DLC in question are hats, skins and emotes, neither of which are necessary to enjoy the game?

Considering I probably won't play through more than once or twice I really don't see why you would want to buy or use them.

registering complaints about having to pay to unlock the content of a game you've paid for isn't 'petulant' or 'immature'. The day one DLC in portal is absolutely outrageous, and the /v/ros are more than entitled to knock the game for it.
I don't recall buying Portal 2 for hats, skins and gestures.

Yep, doesn't change whether it's Day 1 DLC or not.

I don't care. You should get all the content for a game when you buy it (especially at this price), not put the disk in and then get asked to give more money which is utterly disproportionate to the price you paid for the thing.

For instance, I saw items in the store in the video for about £1. The game costs about £25 on PC, more on console. You're telling me that one thing is worth 4% the price of the full game?

Who cares? It's pointless DLC. It's fluff. Buy it if you have disposable income and want it, and if you don't you move on with your life.

Now excuse me, I'm going to go enjoy Portal 2 while everyone whines about how the DLC is inexcusable and what-not.

What's all this about the DLC? There's nothing on Steam, and nothing on XBL.

Also, /v/ is filled with children, and so is the Metacritic User Reviews section. It's a critics job to review, and the critics think it's pretty damn good.

Whine and hate the game all you want, /v/. We'll just be off having fun on Portal 2 without you.

Nope, I do believe in the blue crowbar and the skin for Alyx, but not the mission. The store only has useless shit that are not necessary for anything, you only buy the items if you want to. You never loose content that would make the game better or worse, you just loose content that would mean nothing for the game.
Like the hats in TF2?

Anyway, if you're right and I am proven wrong about this... I'll be happy.

True...I mean they let an ACTUAL FANBOY do the halo 3 review and give it 9.5. THE SAME SCORE AS PORTAL 2!!!! I mean portal 2 is better in EVERY SINGLE WAY. *ahem* They are a lot better than some though, but the only critic I would really rely on is Yahtzee
This is the best example of Irony I have ever seen, period.

It's the principle.
I agree with the principle, I think.
But I'll save my venom for when Valve lock content worth arguing about. I'm not wired to automatically hate 'day 1 DLC' if the DLC in question is totally inconsequential, as it is here.

Funny to see a thread on Portal 2 being bashed after finishing the game not 2 hours ago. Just sayin' the game is incredible, the whole game was just amazing.
So, how long did it take you beat the game? You did just say you beat it already?

Sounds like the game is short, the puzzles are too easy, and Valve wants to sell more 'hats'.

Funny thing, on metacritic, some* of the user reviews that give it a 10 say they have played less than 2 hours of the game.
Steam says I played for 8.3 hours, I would say considering my level of tiredness while playing maybe 7.5-8 hours. I was really tired to the point where I was mixing up what portal to shoot.

The game is insanely fun though, this isn't Portal, it stomps Portal in every single way. Puzzles, plot, humor, sheer insanity, characters, environments, what happens. Everything is just better, this is coming from someone who beat Portal and loved it, this one is just that much crazier...

Then there's the co-op, which is from what I gather not the same game(meaning not rehashed levels), but it continues from after the single player in terms of story.

Ah. I caught myself.

I was about to make the point that the 'Item Store' for Portal 2 was genuinely pointless to get annoyed about...

Then I remembered, Its the internet, THE PLACE to have genuinely pointless discussions.

Tard on, E-bros!

This is not the same as DA2. DA2 wasn't a campaign by a group of people to give it a low rating, it generally sucked. Fans of the first one were mad.
