I disagree. I played the valve box first, I hated it all.

I realy like L4D. I dont apreciate you saying that you dont think L4D fans are intellectual, but I respect your oppinion.

L4D just appeals more to me than half life, wich I felt was to generic.

Oh wellz.

We all have our oppinions.

edit: You know what, I cant pretend to be civil about this.

I thought Half Life was a load of $%#@ and I thought Portal was boring as anything.
I felt that TF was a COD or GOW wanabee, and I thought Valve was just a sespool of shite.

Then L4D came along.

And I loved it.

So I don't apreciate you bashing L4D fans just because you dont like L4D.

I dont like Half Life, you dont like L4D.

Were different. I like action, you like whatever Half Life is. (Puzzles?)

I dont bash you, so please dont bash me,
i think theres something wrong whit your link, it refers to user search which dosent really make that much sense, whit the name of the link i was expecting a link to your (or someone who shared your opinions) review of portal.

OT: i have to disagree, i loved l4d because of its heavy teamwork gameplay and its fast paced action mixed whit a great atmosphere, i am a little tired of 32 vs 32 battles where you have to be über leet to even feel like your making an difference and where you can have 10 guys who are either afk or have 10 to 1 death/kills ratio and you cant do anything about it.

i did enjoy it more than the half life series, but i did love those games too, also as many others have pointed out, calling fans of the game you dont like 5 years old fucktards is a little mean, i prefer games that motivates you whit an story rather than to top the scoreboards, but fast paced shooters are great games and fans of these are generally great people/gamers.

I dont think any one read the part where I SAID THAT LEFT 4 DEAD WAS A GOOD GAME, BUT THE PEOPLE WERENT, READ YOU DUMB FUCKS
So the one claiming to be an "intellectual" (which you still haven't spelled right despite the fact that it has now appeared on this thread umpteen times) is the one who reverted to shouting in caps, swearing, and random name calling.

Nice.

But to many non Valve fans, this game is a gift from god, these gamers enjoy non stop action, generaly no story, and some may enjoy teamwork. Now nothing is wrong with this type of gamer, except one thing, more than half of them are WHINNEY, ANNOYING, TWATS.

These gamers are generaly in the ages from 5 to 20 (most), and are generaly high pitched voices whining everytime they die because they ran away from the group.

Now lets say a game like Left 4 Dead sells 2 million copies, many of these gamers are the latter, while some may be the intuecual gamer, the majority is the action gamer.

So if you sell twice as much on one game then another, your going to follow the money and make more games like this.

Now I am NOT afraid that Half Life 2 epsiode 3 will be hurt because of this, but what about after Half Life 2 episode 3. I am afraid that valve will start following the money and cater to the 10 year old who think that "action games are teh shits man, KILL KILL KILL."

I have already seen people hate Half Life because they played L4D first and said there wasn't enough action....

I am just worried that Valve will follow the money and slowly start ditching their creativity to more games like L4D, I may be right I may be wrong but i think Valve is slowly starting to deteriorate.
Thank god you wrote the 2nd to last paragraph I quoted off of you or I would've thought you were (only) trolling. Although I must say to the first couple of paragraphs: COUNTER STRIKE.

That being said and done, Valve will probably keep packaging together both multiplayer based and story based games like they did with the Orange Box. That way, everyone ends up buying everything whether its TF2 with no story whatsoever, L4D with a fill-in-the-blanks-yourself story, Portal with a smaller story, or Half Life with a long-running story.

Aimed more directly at YOU, I'd like to add that you shouldn't comment things like "(the 10 year old who think that "action games are teh shits man, KILL KILL KILL.") " because that makes you just as annoying as them, even if you are joking / being 'ironic'.

Just because Valve went away from the intellectual side doesn't mean they won't come back they're just adding a little variety like tf2. No puzzles in their so why arent you bitching about that hmmmmmm? Also has it ever occured to you that yes the majority of gamers are twats, but they released this game for some good old fashioned violence and that they might need this money to make more games.

Wait, people considered Half Life 2 to be a game for intellectuals? Why? The puzzles were not difficult in any way. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game and desperately wait for Episode 3 but it isn't that intelligent of a game.

I thought HL2 was entertaining, does this make me a bad person... but intellectual?

I thought Capcom "ruined" Resident Evil when they swapped zombies for weird parasite-y things, but I don't think it's going to cause a catastrophe that means that their games will get worse.
Infact Resi 4 and 5 were good games. I could say that it was ruined by those gosh-darn intellectuals who diasagreed on the realism of zombies.... but let's be honest- that's bullshit.
Just get over it, it's not the end of the world.

L4d didn't ruin Valve. The fact that it was released on xbox hurt Valve methinks. Now i'm pretty sure that every serious PC gamer knows of Valve and their awesomeness. But now, that outsiders are player Valves games but know nothing of their other games. Which are imho better than L4d. I have asked kids at my highschool whom were talking about l4d, "do you know who Valve is?" And they go "HUH?!?" AMITHEONLY1?!?

Yet again D_987 pulls his super duper debate closing skills out. Too bad the OP won't be seeing it.

The OP was a little ill-made, but I do see where he's coming from. I too am a big Valve fan. I LOVE Half-Life 2 and consider it a great achievement in storytelling. I was excited about Left 4 Dead, and was just disappointed. It's not a bad action game, but it just isn't Valve. It was too shallow, and generic. Personally I would love to see Valve return to a focus on their single player games like Portal and Half-Life, or maybe something new. Bottom line, I just don't think Valve is particularly good at multiplayer.

Valve should still be a good game company, I think that they just have two different styles for their games now. By the way, don't use a sterotype like, all gamers under 20 are whiny or whatever, it's retarded.
