Your Batman analogy doesnt work because by the most fans "Batman forever" and "Batman & robin"
were considered bad movies , and those fans were glad that Cristopher Nolan made the batman movies more similiar to the Tim burtons Batman.

I thought it was starting to look pretty sweet. I mean I'm disappointed in the new Dante because I quite liked the old one but at least this is trying to avoid getting stale. I'm going to get the HD Trilogy rather cheaply soon so when this comes down in price I'll probably get it as well. Its not day one for me though since I haven't really been bothered with following it.

Am I having a deja vu [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.381239-Poll-DMC-5-Why-all-the-hatred]? Almost exactly a month, to the day, even.

But why do you care about it? If you like the game - you like it, if you don't - you don't, why does other people's opinion matter to you?

Feedback stops when given. whining continues until a change is made. people wanted the change.
-See the the first trailer, comment that it looks like shit.

-See combat in action at game conventions and such, comment about lack of enemies and 30 fps and such.

-Hear story about the half angel thing, say that it makes no sense.

Thats not whining over and over about one thing. That's seperate pieces of feedback.

That's as far as I go. Now if we talk about the guys who are only mad about the hair color and nothing else, thats real whining.

But dont lump every criticisum about the game in with that bunch.

lets be honest about the character design for a moment.

creepy-thin lips, pointy chin, skin tight pants and sleeves, eye liner, way too exposed low collar T shirt, jewlery, overly cared for hair, exposed collar/trapezius/pecks. maybe in japan thats how heroes look, but in the US, those are homosexual motifs.

its like when they replaced solid snake with Raiden. if your character goes from manly soldier to gimp suit sissy in between games, your gonna lose a chunk of your fanbase. if you wanna design a cool feminine hero, that doesnt alienate a large portion of action fans, why not just make it a girl? final fantasy followed this same logic, and that is where this leads, so why not skip the akward transition and cut to the chase?

there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, but it appeals to a niche demographic.

also wearing a collared jacket without a collard shirt is trashy, and his jacket could use some belts. so... feminine dude with no fashion sense? who is this supposed to appeal to again?

Saying Dante isn't gay would disappoint a larger portion of the fanbase than you might realise... what can I say, guy's hot. Specially in 4.

The design is horrible they used the same focus group that thought Sqaulls personalty was cool and the reason why Basch or Balthie was not the main character to FF12.
They were going to make one of them the main character instead of the whiny twat nobody liked that we ended up with? :( That'd have cemented FF12 as my favourite one.

Mate it's not like they're small complaints, they're potential series enders. If this game bombs, which it likely will given how what we've been told about it is pretty much universally hated then who's going to risk making a proper DMC sequel?

Because Dante was cool and the new one is a druged out anorexic Hollywood drone?

I'm not entirely sure, but then the two complaints I hear most often are kinda stupid: 'He looks different' yes, contrary to what most anime likes to tell you teenagers do NOT resemble people in their mid-thirties. 'He looks like a douchebag' he's always looked like a douchebag, it's not their fault you didn't notice.

His voice however, yeah that's gonna get grating after a while, it also might have something to do the guy playing that demo being kindda bad at it.

it's because there's change
and most fans of a game DO NOT LIKE CHANGE , watch the jimquisition episode about it
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/6038-A-Game-By-Any-Other-Name
I like devil may cry as well, and to be honest is anyone REALLY going to notice the change of hair during combat? I mean seriously who's going to keep focusing on a few pixels throughout a whole game.

during combat, the game might be great. its third person with a pretty far camera, so the characters appearance can be overlooked. but during cutscenes it will look bad, because the lips aren't animated or rigged correctly, and all the guy's clothes are either too tight or too loose. in fact, it would probably look better with less detailed graphics, or a more stylized aesthetic. people relate with generic archetypes better than weirdos who cant dress themselves.

Ah. I wanted to clarify, sense you went and wrote my arguments off as fanboy outrage from the get go.

I'm mostly against this game because of the horrendous PR, but I can tell you it is beyond the hair and appearance for most of us that dislike the game. Mostly because this game threatens the existance of the other DMC, which in our eyes, has unfinished plot-points and threads. Mostly dealing with how Nero relates to Dante and Vergil. If they had finished the old series first or at least promised us a conclusion sometime in the future, most of us wouldn't give a rat's arse about this game, hell some of would probably even like it.

But for a more in depth view into the minds of more reasonable people against the game, check these out.

These are the main reasons most of are against the game and that we could care less about the guy's hair.

You are still going with argument from authority. Calling it "expert advice" doesn't change it. It is still a logical fallacy.

Furthermore you are changing the subject. Nolan wasn't chosen because he is good for my analogy. Nolan is chosen because he isn't true to the source material and still made a good movie.

You are then making a new strawman.

"Nevermind that his complaints aren't demanding of any change."

I never said he were. I am saying he is using his position as a fan as a position of authority.
That's the third time you've said "straw man" and not once, have you used the concept properly. Please stop saying this. You don't know what it means.

I was turning your analogy against you, and using it to prove my point, not to discredit your use of the analogy, which was fine in its context.

I didn't call it expert advice. I called it an expert opinion. There is a huge difference between the two. I'm not calling the chef the authority. I'm not that the chef saying is always correct. I'm saying that because of his background, one would give more weight to his opinion than the weight of someone who has no background.
Even in this, there IS a consensus on the new Dante, and it is not positive.

I don't think it looks good. I don't HATE the game, though. Especially with how silly the last couple DMC games seemed.
