lets be honest about the character design for a moment.
creepy-thin lips, pointy chin, skin tight pants and sleeves, eye liner, way too exposed low collar T shirt, jewlery, overly cared for hair, exposed collar/trapezius/pecks. maybe in japan thats how heroes look, but in the US, those are homosexual motifs.
its like when they replaced solid snake with Raiden. if your character goes from manly soldier to gimp suit sissy in between games, your gonna lose a chunk of your fanbase. if you wanna design a cool feminine hero, that doesnt alienate a large portion of action fans, why not just make it a girl? final fantasy followed this same logic, and that is where this leads, so why not skip the akward transition and cut to the chase?
there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, but it appeals to a niche demographic.
also wearing a collared jacket without a collard shirt is trashy, and his jacket could use some belts. so... feminine dude with no fashion sense? who is this supposed to appeal to again?
