An avatar can say a lot about a person. However, they, like anything else, are not the end-all of those things.

For example, you can all easily guess that I am not queasy about blood and that I enjoy thinks that are dark.

While, we can all assume Max likes Code Geass, or at least likes LeLouch from it.

Depends. What do you think of ME when you see my avatar?
You were a suicide gone wrong? Sneezed when you pulled the trigger or something?
X-D

Not really. Horrible translation comes to mind.

I agree.
Way too much vomiting and exposition, which Manhunt really didn't need.
You might say the game.. vomits exposition?
*Bad pun alert, get your children to shelter, THIS IS NOT A DRILL.*
BAM! Average pun.

Anyways on a more serious note, I don't normally judge people on their avatars unless it is a really extreme statement. I once came across a guy with a cross on a heart, both were glowing. I have to say I assumed he was religious.

Usually its the names if you ask me.
How so?
Well its usually the... er it's because... I don't know how to say...
Um nicholaxxx could you come over for a demonstration. Thank you, that's a good lad.
What does the xxx part say to you? Is it a need to feel "cool"? To make yourself seem hardcore. Or the name, I kid ye not, Faps. Is it that much of a mystery?
How very shallow of you, I feel sorry for someone who judges me by my name on an internet forum.
I have been meaning to tell you, you have f*cking sweet avatar though.
Personally, I really don't read or remember the names that much unless they match the avatar perfectly. I love funny or unique avatars, but lack the tech skill to produce one for myself. ;-; oh well-I do love my cute demon exploding penguin even if he is generic.

The avatar doesn't really affect me, it just helps me remember whose post I'm reading, as I'm one of those people who recognises posters by their avatar rather than their name, and, as such, avatar swaps are very confusing for me, but only for a little while.

Nope, I don't judge a book by its cover. However a few people are quick to assume I'm a moron because of mine.
I don't, I think that Obama may as well fu** up. Don't get me wrong, he might as well also fu** down (is that even a term?), but everyone believes what they want.

Thank you very much, how can a t-rex playing the drums in front of a nuclear explosion be anything but f*cking sweet:D

Your penguin looks cute but as soon as you turn your back on him, he'll rip your throat out and giggle while playing skip rope with your intestines...

Depends. It makes me assume they like that stuff, thus if I see something I don not like, I may be quicker to dislike them. Otherwise they just form my mental picture of them, especcially if they are notable. (Cpt_Oblivious for example)

I have a barcode no one I know has been able to scan (With the correct device), to date. Ahh well, it's message will be secret forever...

I thought it would be original, and it was either this or the number '42'...

I look at posts then avatars. I really don't pay attention to names because my name has nothing to do with anything about me. I think it has something to do with a fictional robot or something...

I guess it depends. A name like Over9000Wangs with an avatar of an asscrack isn't going to make me take them seriously, but if they're a good poster it won't matter to me.

It's usually insight to how a person sees themselves, anyway. A good poster with the aforementioned name and avatar probably means they laugh a lot and don't take themselves too seriously. A name like Trollspooge69 that's constantly on the suspended list is probably insecure and is putting on bravado through bad behavior.

It's more like data, to be considered with the rest.

Well you can't always pay attention to the sernames, so avatars are important. Also, if the avatar is a certain gender, i'll think of the user as the same gender.

It's off-putting for me if the avatar contains objectionable material.

Which is why I enjoy my avatar. The most racist thing you could possibly extrapolate from it is "Chocolate Rain".

It's like looking into someone's soul. Almost like you instantly know something about that person "O, they have a Master Chief avatar. They probably like Halo 3." The only time someone's avatar changes my opinion on someone for the worse is when they have an avatar for something I can't stand, but then I tell myself that they are just misguided.
