Why do all of the most popular threads involve people getting offended over nothing?

It's Dead or Alive. A fighting series that pits skinny Japanese schoolgirls against bulky ninjas and Master Chief. It baffles me how a game this ludicrous to begin with could offend people over something as trivial as some breasts bouncing around during the action.

Bullshit. You have any evidence that companies have to bend to the will of every feminist that criticizes their products?
IO Interactive did : /
Ok, dude, no.
If IO listened, it's because they thought it would be good business practice.
And just like you can cry that DoA are just listening to people want, you cannot get your panties in a bunch when another developer listens to people you disagree with.
Developers listen to people I disagree with all the time, and yeah, I'll still say what I don't like about it, and you can say what you don't like about changes made, but you cant go `Oh teh feminists are takin over!`.
People are getting their voices heard, and just like I won't moan that your voice is heard, you shouldn't moan when people who are not you get listened to.

I guess this would definitely explain why Metroid: Other M did so well under their belt.

Wait... It didn't?

People hated Metroid: Other M and refuse to accept it as part of the series!?

What's this about Samus being portrayed horribly?!!?

Nope, can't be true. Everyone likes tits and ass.

The way I see it, people had big expectations for Other M, and Samus was already an already established character, a strong female lead. People were upset because they took that character and changed her into a negative-stereotypical feminine character.

Dead or Alive however doesn't have that kind of expectation. It's characters were gorgeous big breasted women from the start, and it doesn't pretend to be anything other than an over-the-top fighter.

You know what I find funny about "women being sexualized"? Has anyone here ever read a steamy romance novel? The one's that have moments of intimate encounters between a man and woman? Most of those were created by women, for women. I would LOVE to see an action/adventure game created with that kind of theme by women for women. Deep character development and hot steamy action to boot.

So is the gaming industry over-sexualizing women? Sure, mostly because the men beat the women to the punch :p

If women started the gaming industry in the beginning, there would be boobs everywhere in gaming as well. But more of a focus on the characters than any over-all plot. Also, action/adventure games and RPG's would be the most popular instead of FPS's.

p.s. Read a few of those books myself, quiet enthralling indeed.

The whole statement on it being cultural is just asinine and those devs are a disgrace to the Japanese people for saying such nonsense... The majority of Japanese games don't or try to have such a ridiculous thing as jiggle physics and even more to extent that defies physics like they are alive... There is a common of woman being shown with skimpy outfits and silly scenes, but that is not all of them... The best Japanese games I have played never had such crap in them...

I'm not sure I understand what Team Ninja's motivation for getting rid of jiggle physics in DoA would be. Are feminists going to start buying the game en masse if jiggle physics are removed? Are they all just itching to make flat-chested girls (who will likely at that point look much more like underage boys) beat the crap out of each other and sadly lack an outlet for their homoerotic rage until the release of Dead or Alive: The Young and the Breastless?

In other news, video game stories in any way involving issues of womens' bodies get ridiculous amounts of views. Film at eleven.

I said it before and I'll gladly say it again: As long as the bouncy jiggly physics don't interfere with the general performance of a game, it's all cool. Also, buggy jiggle code eats souls and damages mankind as a whole. If there's any chance of a cock-up whatsoever, shut it down before anyone gets hurt.

Personally, I think I'd put some serious sports bra on each and every girl, woman and she-beast, in order to prevent saggy tube-shaped boobs plopping out and flopping about after prolonged sessions of jiggling about.

Then again, I am pretty certain that the jiggle aims at folks inclined to wiggle, so who am I to judge?

Wait, wait, wait.. let me get this straight.

We're talkin' about how these girls should be pictured in a game where every bodytype, male or female is utterly ridicoulus over the top?

And it wouldnt be a problem if they we're this feminin/sexy but with a B-cup? I'm confused. Objectifying small tits is ok, but big breasts are not?

Also, what has this beat-em up to do with real life sexism? Is this the new form of shooters make killers? Beat em ups raises boys to like domestic violence?

Just treat a friggin game for a game once and don't over complicate things. Curves and big breasts are a beauty standard in Japan, just look at their Mangas.
Also being paler than a vampire on a diet is sexy. And nobody of us has the right to claim that this certain view on female beauty is wrong.

Sheesh.
No, take your sensibility someplace where people are willing to discuss things rationally. There's no place here for the likes of you!

The issue of sexualizing men is irrelevant. Men are less likely to throw fits about their portrayal than women are, especially since the Anita-bomb exploded, reminding us why were' shameful rape culture supporters for playing video games that depict women in anything that she does not personally approve of, also Lego oppression. Black people? We're poorly represented in many video games as well, be it a bird's nest or offensively caricatured dialogue, or persistent thug-life bullshit. Truth is we have a game like Soul Caliber IV where men's clothing is just as prone to blowing off their bodies as women, but we only heard people gripe about it happening to women. Or, as a reversal, Chris Redfield had ridiculous looking arms, but nobody made a peep. Kratos and his mostly naked self, Conan, Batman and his skin-tights, you name it. I love Spider-Man, have since I was a shrimp, but if his outfit were any tighter we'd see his asshole.

The breast size thing is a funny one. Yes, it get's outrageous, but it's their game, let them make it as they wish. Lara Croft, the women of Soul Caliber V, numerous others have seen reductions, largely to appeal to the sensitive out there. What kills me is that it's sexism when men do it, but when women do it there is no problem. Ever seen a game convention? Most of the women there aren't wearing much at all. Are they complaining?

I don't think it's actually a matter of jiggle being a cultural thing, I think that in Japan they're less influenced by nonsensical puritanical ideal as we westerners are (especially my country, good old America). In my country death and violence are okay, cleavage is bad. You can see lots of murder and crime on TV, even in children's cartoons, but anything even remotely sexual is an "A.O." or "NC-17" rated nightmare out to corrupt people and support oppressing women.

This whole argument implies that a video game is sexist. A goddamn video game! You're completely right, it's just a game, and certainly not worth calling out all male pigs (which I guess is all of us born with a penis that so much as look at a woman at all anymore, real or polygonal). The only part of any of this that is even offensive is the overreaction by feminists and their supporters. Remember Married with Children. People found that offensive too. The advice of the writers of that show? Don't like it, don't watch it.

Damn, and I wanted to be brief.

Um, I'm okay with this. Actually, it's a little bit heartburn-inducing that this should drive anyone to the ramparts.

Now, I'm not saying that every game or every company should take their cues from Namco and the Dead or Alive series. But I certainly think there should be room in the genre and in the medium for the franchise, including all its quirks, boob physics included. If you think it's silly or immature or sexist, fine; I just don't find that an acceptable reason for it to either cease to exist entirely or be aesthetically re-aligned to suit someone else's offended sense of propriety.

Everyone is welcome! There is nothing more hillarious than watching some of the ol' classics.

One day I'm going to get that filthy beast *rolls credits*.

Hach, there is too much fun to have with scurrile 70s and 80s porn. They really tried to get plot into it with character development and motivations...
.... is that you Brad Jones? The Cinema Snob, he PRIMARILY does exploitation films and bad porno films, if you didn't know.

Well, if anyone was going to finally put their foot down and tell the PC police to go away, figures it'd be Ninja Theory.

It's a shame they make such awful games, I'd like to throw money at them.

Right, big breasts fulfill an obvious male fantasy. Big muscles fulfill a male power fantasy. In both cases, Team Ninja is catering to males. It's always been their business practice.
Amen to that! I suppose to contrast, we'd need to compare DoA volleyball to a video game that caters to a female sexual fantasy...

In my opinion at least the problem is not that there is sexuality in video gamers the biggest problem is that it is dealt with in such as immature manner. You would think that they based it around a 13 year old boys sexual fantasy.Oh and all because people are doing worse things to women in other parts of the world does not give an excuse to lesser forms of sexism in the developed world.

It's no more a part of Japanese Culture than Twitter is a part of American Culture. Japan existed for a long time without "Jiggle" physics.

And even if it was a part of Japanese Culture, there's no reason why the Culture can't change. Endemic Racism used to be part of American culture for a while, but Americans are trying to stop it. Forcing women to have no jobs used to be a part of virtually every culture around the world, but we changed that.

I'm not saying that Jiggle Physics is equivalent to Racism or Very bad sexism. It's just a stupid thing that someone put in a video game, and it's not something to rail against. I'm not proposing that they have to take it out (although I suggest they do since breasts DO NOT MOVE THAT WAY in real life and it just looks WEIRD), I'm just saying that you can't use "culture" as a defense against some questionable stuff.

Well, that interesting[footnote]There is something smart I can say, but as its already 10 pages, its already been said, so im not gonna bother...[/footnote]. Though it does points out how sad of affair the US is in when it comes to dealing with sexuality in videogames.
