To be honest I normally like doctor Who but I just didn't think these episodes were very palatable. He was way too quick to kill and showed absolutely no remorse afterwards.
Maybe that's why he allows himself to get 'killed' in the future?

Penance for a crime he committed in the past.

That'd be a good twist actually, there's just something about the idea of there being no consequences for that that I find very distasteful.
I'm just thinking it could be something like 'Mars'...

It took him a bit, but in the end he 'allowed himself' to be regenerated/killed - even when he didn't want to.

ok, just to point out: i have only been genuinely shocked 3 time's in my entire life:

1. when my dad,on a random day, just walked into a shop and bought me a ps2, i was GOBSMACKED!!
2.a film called 'old boys' ( a fantastic film, and one of my favorite films of all time) has a twist at the end that left me GOBSMACKED!!
3.another film, shawshank redemption ( ye SHOULD watch this film before you die) left me GOBSMACKED!! by a twist at the end.
4. a new entry: the end of the episode, with the little girl regenerating, left me so GOBSMACKED!!, my head exploded.

honestly lads, there's no point in speculating: mr. moffat will still leave us GOBSMACKED!! somehow. let's just wait and see what moffat has got for us: that man deserve's a medal for being the BEST writer on tv.

I don't think it's going to be the Doctor and Amy's baby - that whole theory about her having sex with him and the baby is now his seems to be a bit too 'eastenders' storyline for me. Far too dramatic for a doctor who episode I feel and if that is what's happened I'll be dissapointed.

Overall though, I'm not really enjoying this series so far. I don't mind the old 'this storyline is going to continue' but there are so many loose threads some NEED to get tied up.

I was upset by this episode.

Why? Because I hoped the Doctor's death in the previous episode would end the goddamned series.

Oh well. The kid probably has the Doctor's life force or some other deus ex machina bullshit.

I could feel my brain melting, breaking through my eardrums and pouring out of my head when the little girl regenerated. Maybe TARDIS energy? Or maybe the Doctor's 'daughter' had a daughter, herself that was sent to the past?

Even if it is 'deux ex machina bullshit', I still can't wait and I NEVER WANT IT TO END

Ok Georgia Moffat was the doctors daughter and now theres seems to be Amy being pregnate so I guess that time traveling while pregnate does indeed causes the baby to become a timelord..... Im so confused and what about River Song and the doctor that doctor is still from the past not the future so I know that god what have they done.

in two minds about the episode- the bit in the orphanage was brilliant and how the doctor defeated the silence was likewise but theres still something about it that doesnt sit right.
I'll tell you what didn't sit right for me:

I don't like guns! Killing is wrong and I deposed a prime minister for it! Genocide is bad and I locked away my own people, a version of myself and stand against it no matter what!

I just made the entire human race into murderers through hypnosis and forced them to commit genocide! Problem, Shadow proclamation? Trolololololol
Didn't Tennant erupt Vesuvius, killing a whole Roman City?

Yeah, but that was to keep the whole world from being taken over, and stuff. Kinda like this episode, I guess; for the greater good, and everything. Though, the whole 'program everyone to kill aliens' thing doesn't really seem like the greatest thing in the world, but if it works, why fix it?

The girl regenerated, so she is probably at least part time-lord. It seemed to be something new to her, but that she "instinctively" knew about. She has great strength (River pointed that out). Time Lords are stronger than most humans IIRC. Amy is somehow part of the baby's life, there is a picture of her holding the baby.

Theory 1: The Silence wanted Amy's offspring (they honor her because she "brought the silence"). Amy WAS pregnant, now she's not. The Silence did an invitro on her, her genes and the Doctor's and then "took the baby", they have the technology I'm sure to bring the baby to term. Amy of course, does not remember any of those events.

Theory 2: River IS Amy's baby, but the daughter of Amy and Rory. SHE marries the doctor and THEY have a child. The girl is Amy's granddaughter.

Theory 3: They have some twist up their sleeves that will blow our minds.

I'm sure all the universe sploding jiggery pokery in the big bang's probly had something to do with it. god knows what effect going through all that had on their bodies/temporal landscape. Also I was still thinking rory was an auton but looking at the dr who wiki's it looks like he reverted to being human wheen the universe reset. Both the above series have a ring of plausibility to them (didnt river say the silence get other races to "build" things together and thats why they were comprised of different techs coughhybridcough.

Of course the kid could just be the docters love child with the freaky mermaid thing in the next episode :p

Go team Stupid-Face! Mainly because his cowardice reminds me of me, see the part at the start where Stupid-Face whimpers before Canton (doesn't) shoots him. Yup, that's me.

Also, Canton revealing himself as gay to Nixon, I found that funny.

Great episode looking forward to the rest of the series

regarding River somehow knowing about the Silent behind her....no one remembers that Rory was right in front of River and able to see it? its pretty easy for River to read his expression and assume there was one behind her...not too difficult really

as for the Doctor going genocide on the Silent....they did screw with humanities's (the Doctor's favorite race) free will and combined with the whole blowing up the universe thing i think the "leave Earth or Die" is pretty merciful compared to say...what he did to the family of blood (Season 3 involving the Doctor hiding out as a human in pre-WW1) for example. in The End of Time the Doctor never gave the other Time-lords another chance either.

looking forward to the rest of the season, hopefully Canton will come back at some point being incredibly entertaining. Clearly the Silence isn't done just yet, they destroyed the universe with a hacked TARDIS they wont be defeated permanently by what the Doctor did. After all only the 1/2 a billion humans that watched the moon landing would react to the Silents by killing them, if they can survive past WW2, baby boomers and a few Gen X-ers they can easily start causing trouble again.

EDIT: am i the only one think that the old season 4 episode SILENCE of the library that introduced River Song will have hidden elements addressed now?

It was retconned, in the Sarah Jane Adventures (spin off show) of all places where he made a cameo appearance. Basically he now has unlimited regenerations.
Oh what the actual fuck!? Who retcons important info like that in the young kid's show? They won't appreciate the data and the adults won't all want to watch it![/quote]

It wasn't really retconned, don't worry. Moffat stated in an interview that the question of the Doctor's Regenerations would be answered in a "cheeky manner", So I am sticking with the whole 713 Regenerations is Matt Smith being a smart ass.

Remembrance of the Daleks - The Doctor manipulates Davros into using the Hand of Omega (which the Doctor has boobytrapped) to destroy Skaro and countless millions of Daleks. Just for kicks. No remorse, no mercy.

I like my Doctor ruthless and vengeful.

Unlimited rice pudding.
that was an *epic* serial.

two points to make here, really
1) to everyone going on about how the doctor's regeneration is red flames, that's only happened twice on screen out of 7 (IIRC) on-screen regenerations (plus the meta-crisis thing) - in what way does that make it the doctor's trademark regeneration?

2) for anyone theorising that the girl is the doctor's with amy/river/jenny/whoever-else, was it not establised in Dr Who canon (NA:Lungbarrow) that timelords cannot sexually reproduce, and use a 'genetic loom' (invented, as with so much time-lord tech, by rassilion) to produce adult time-lords?

I reckon that it is river song, not the doctors daughter, not Amy pond jr, just river song. It makes loads more sense, the kiss for one being the first and last time she kissed him. River song and the doctors time lines are opposite, which means as he gets older she gets younger, I reckon it was river song in the astronaut suit that killed the doctor because she was a child, and I reckon it was river song that regenerated because she was a child. BOTTOM LINE, her saying the kiss was the first time and the last time, then regenerating as a child because she was coming to the end of her timeline makes much more sense than Amy pond Jr =D
