uh... They couldn't get me to switch to controllers from mouse and keyboard... what on earth makes you think I'm writing off kenitcksikcik because of price or fear of change? I'm not buying it because I don't even own the console it's for.

i'm writing it off because i simply cannot be arsed with it.

i mean, i get tired and sweating after about 1 hour or so of Wii Sports, imagine how long it would take me to be tired after jumping about like a retard in front of an expensive Eyetoy.

I'm usually pretty good with game design, but i can't think of ANYTHING that could work well with Kinect other than minigames and on-rails.

The best you could get from it is just using it for small hand gestures while using a regular controller which seems a bit pants if you ask me.
What if, while your playing Splinter Cell: Conviction, then Kobin calls your daughter a whore, then you find Kobin, will you...

A. Press "B"

B. Grab him by the neck and say "Andrey Kobin. Whats that you were saying about my daughter?" Then smash his head in a piano.

For a lower price I might give it a chance. That said, there are a few things to point out about what you've said.

First off, what I've been reading here at the Escapist says that Milo and Kate may not be coming out at all, it could've just been a tech demo, and if it is coming out, we don't know when, but we can be relatively certain it won't be with the starting launch titles.

Secondly, I loved Rez (made by the same person making Child of Eden) and it's the most tempting of the Kinect titles to me, that said, what I've read would indicate that the game is being made in such a way so as that it's playable both with the Kinect controls and without the Kinect controls, so if Kinect can't offer me anything more interesting than Child of Eden I'd probably just play it with a normal controller and save the money.

Finally, unlike the Wii, where even though you can get up and move, with Kinect you're literally going to have to be moving. So, there's an extent to which if I'm tired, I probably won't be interested in playing it. Even more so, I don't know what the space setup for Kinect will be like. My living room isn't necessarily a good space to be moving about in, so it might be that Kinect is something I couldn't play at all.

In all honesty I'd choose A xD

I get what you're saying though, that would be pretty cool for some people. Though when applied to a real game it wouldn't be as good as you make it sound.

I have thought of quite a few uses for Kinect since i made that last post but i still think it's very limiting if you're not using it with some sort of controller. I'll just wait and see what devs come up with.

Cuz Yahtzee says you should hate motion controls so you should definitely hate motion controls.

Seriously though, I don't get the scorn either. The games generally don't look great but the tech looks stellar, meaning there's plenty of potential in the future.

Well I'm actually against B. It's basically like begging Fox "News" to bash video games. I only said it to show that, if your creative enough, you can come up with something.

I know! What about a co-op game. One player uses a controller, the other uses Kinect...

That's all I got so far...

I'd consider buying one. Not for the games and not at $150 bucks. But I would love to be able to bark orders at my Xbox.

"Xbox! Movies!"
"Xbox! TV shows!"
"Xbox! Don't you dare RRoD again!!!"

But hating is so fun...

OT: Either way, I don't think they'll make it different enough from the Wii for me to really care. I mean, Xbox games are mostly for achievements, and I still have to get like 50 classics I never got around to trying(still need Mass Effect and Fallout 3...).

The pricetag, the shovelware, and their poor choice of celebrity to endorse the product isn't what's turning me off. I don't want Kinect for the same reasons I didn't want a Wii and don't want Move.

Motion controls are absolutely pointless.

Everyone has the same argument about how:
'I'm not paying $150 for a controller.'
'The Kinect doesn't have quality launch titles.'
But the titles so far are crap, it IS just a controller, and IF I wanted a motion-controlled console, I'd buy a Wii for less money.

Oh, and don't know WTF this Bieber bloke is, but the fact that Molyneux is fapping all over Kinect put me off yonks ago.

If I felt the need for it, I'd just use my Eyetoy for ps2.

Yet that only cost about £30 iirc... Can't see how you can justify the high price tag it's getting.

Or if I wanted a Wii, I'd buy a Wii... though I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Because I don't want to jump about when playing games. I play games to relax after sports. I don't want to start doing terrible pseudo-sports when I 'm tired from doing interesting, real sports.

I think that Kinect COULD out-class the wii simply because the 360 was more processing power and thus allows developers to make better games for it . SO don't write it off for Shovelware

Steve Jobs once quoted Pablo Picasso as a matter of explaining how to find new technologies, "good artists copy, great artists steal."
Kinect is just a result of constraints from the (consumer) environment. Because Nintendo changed the competition from "get revenue from hardcore" to "get revenue from everybody via intuitive input systems", this required MS and Sony to evolve. I don't Microsoft is cruel enough to give consumers just $80 or $90 of hardware for $150, if Kinect is $150 (which I doubt), then MS will likely bundle in free software.

My problem with it is that for 40 more dollars I could get myself a Wii. And who would want one? The only redeeming games on the Wii are the House of the Dead games and Wii Sports. One came free with the console. Have you ever looked at the back of a gaming magazine? The only games that scored an 8+ are Mario games. Everything else is usually below a 6, with maybe five or six stuck in the 7 range. The Wii has a much lower average score than either of the other consoles. And quite honestly, I don't play video games to move. I play video games to use a controller. If I want to dance I can go to a party. If I want to play tennis I can go to the fitness club. And yeah, the Wii has the highest sales out of the three consoles, but it also has the highest amount of people who bought a console and don't use it. Nintendo has even admitted that. There are lots of studies and statistics that have been done about it. I don't see why Microsoft or Sony thing that their things will be any different. And the fact of the matter is that they probably don't. They probably just want to try to reach the sales figures of the Wii and care nothing about if people play the damn things or not.
