I'm kinda picky about the main character... I tend to get upset when my character doesn't look suitable to the role...
I'm not saying that I want a beautiful supermodel on a killing spree, since Kratos is one of my favorites! Just someone who actually fits the game and doesn't ruin the setting...
I'm dumb, yes yes...

Don't feel too bad. I'm sure just about everybody that posts on this thread is guilty of some petty reason for hating a game. I've even admitted to mine.

My favorite is always reading when members here call games like Team Fortress 2 cartoony.

I wasn't aware Modern Warfare had people being blown to chunks, then the camera zooming in on the pieces to rub in that you were just popped.

It's not cartoony, it's art, wonderful art. If you want realistic, go get a M4 and join the army, that's real.

When people hate on Portal because it isn't a mindless shoot everyone game. Also when people diss HL2 because the physics puzzles are too hard for them. People like this fuck me off because they're the sorts of people responsible for shit like Gears of War.

In a certain context I agree with him. There was just so much bloody story content that I didn't really want it to be a game, I wanted it to be a novel, movie or TV series. I didn't really enjoy the game-play, but the writing was just so bloody good and I think it was made worse by the fact that it was a game... did anyone notice the way every time a character finished a sentence there was always a big pause before they started the second one? It's like they'd finished talking and then they just go talk more. There's nothing wrong with too much talking as I love storylines, but I think there wasn't really enough focus on the gameplay.

I think my most petty reason for hating a game was during Gears of War. The characters were actually alright, but there was no freakin plot! I mean, you get the gist of what's going on but it's like what the hell? "Humanity isn't extinct yet"? Aren't we on a different planet? Are there still people on earth? Are these bum people the only civilians around? HOWCOME NO SOLDIERS ARE COMING TO HELP US? I mean seriously, you're in the process of trying to activate a device which will play a pivotal part in the war against the lokust, yet they're not giving you any backup. 4 soldiers have to do this on their own for basically no reason. I mean, a chopper flies over and picks you up at the end, why couldn't they have given you some damn backup?

Fair enough you hate the casual games, but that's no reason to miss out on all the good games it has. Pretty much any game by Nintendo for the console is brilliant, and their are a few third party titles like No More Heroes and Okami.
I will probably give you that. Ultimately, I just don't like that Nintendo has really been whoring it's console out. Feels like the old NES days when there were certain pots of gold out there, but you often had to go through a lot of poo to find them.

Also
Because X game is not on Y console, I have never seen how this makes a game worse. Sure I might be frustrated that Red Dead Redemption isn't on PC which is the only available console I have but I don't hate the game for it.
I just plain hate console exlusives. Not the game itself, (I'm sure Infamous for instance is fantastic) but the fact that I can't play a lot of good games without shelling out the cash for another console.

I understand how it all works, I just don't like it.
All consoles have gems and all have crap. Doesn't matter which, you still need to find the gems. Also console exclusives are never a bad thing but I understand what you mean.

Bad graphics
While I agree this is a bad one norammly, at a certain point really bad graphics do hurt the game. For example, clipping really breaks my immersion in games, or something not being clear like a cracked wall.

As for me not liking other media associated with the game, hate the Pokemon series? The games might actually be fun for you.

Some guy told me "Assassin's Creed isn't fun because there are no guns".

He's a total dumbass obviously, because there ARE guns in Assassin's Creed.

Bad graphics, it's popular so it must suck, slow moving.

My excuse for not liking turn-based games is "Why the hell do I have to stand in a line? Can't I just attack them?"
Bad graphics has to be the worst. At least "popular so it sucks" has some kind of basis (Jersey Shore anyone?) and some people are too ADHD to do slow moving.

But there is absolutely no excuse for bad graphics meaning the game is bad. That kind of people deserves a slap to the face by Donkey Kong.

"Because all my friends hated it." Because whether or not your friends like a game should have little to no bearing on if you will. Different people have different tastes.

Not only the dumbest reason, but also the most common.

Because at the time it's "cool" to hate it. A few months ago it was MW2, now the new trend seems to be Mass Effect 2.

I recall one person telling me that he refused to play any games made by Bioware because he hates Canada. Yep, he refused to play KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age, all because he hates anything that comes out of Canada.

Here's one I heard today:

"Civilization V is gay, you don't even play as the soldiers or do anything except manage cities"

I almost slapped him.

"You have to hold back to block instead of holding down a button? It sucks."

Spoken to me by a relative who refused to play any fighting game aside from Mortal Kombat.

because it is popular.

because it doesnt have incredible graphics.

because it has a different kind of artstyle.

because it is another shooter.

because it is exclusive to a certain console.

because it is a sequel.

because it is at all similar to another game.

and many other stupid reasons...

"I don't like it, therefore, it is a bad game."
SHEESH.
I don't like ANY RTS EVER MADE, because I'm not a big strategist. For all that, I recognize that, for example, StarCraft II is a great game.
