Well, to be honest, after that dirtiest-ever game in the finals with atempts at elbow strikes, schwalbes, wrestling, shirt-pulling, dirty tackling and agression AND then winning the bloody fair play trophy, I'm more than content to watch the Spanish team die in a fi... uhm, in the group matches.

As for my team the Netherlands
Dude, as a Dutchman, I find the fact that you're complaining about Spain playing dirty in the WC finals to be ridiculous. As much as I obviously wanted my country to win, we played even dirtier than the Spanish in that match (with jump kicks and all). So yes, that probably was the dirtiest-ever finals game of all time, but we're just as much, if not more to blame.

Pretty dissapointed in Swedens performance...

And with that I mean we sucked, I mean, to lose to fucking Ukraine (probably the fourth/fifth worst team in Euro) takes some effort. We had no god damn strategy, it's just "Just throw the ball up to Zlatan, he'll score probably".
Yeah I would have picked Sweden over Ukraine going into the game - That said, Shevshenko is in my Fantasy Team, and 2 goals from him has totally made up for the inability of Van Persie to achieve anything whatsoever. So I'm happy with the result.

So, first set of fixtures over with, I think Denmark may need to be given a look in given they beat the World Cup finalists, whilst Russia are looking pretty good too - be interesting to see how they get on in the QFs.

At this point, I reckon the Quarter Finals will look something like:

Russia(A Winners) v Denmark
Czech Republic v Germany (B Winners)
Spain(C winners) v France
Italy v England (D Winners).

However, I may be being somewhat optimistic on the England and Denmark fronts...

I fucking despise them for three reasons;

1) In matches where I should be neutral, I side with the underdogs almost every time. Obviously, Spain are not the underdogs, so yeah.

2) Their boring ass play style. I'm fed up of people just rimming Spains asshole for managing to pass the ball from left back to center back to left back over and over and over and over. Yes, it's successful, but how is it entertaining? It's way more entertaining to see a defensive team utilize cold blooded tactics to their fullest extent. With Spain it's just Xavi passing to Puyol who passes to Pique who passes to Xavi... Repeat 200 times.

3) Their players are a bunch of fucking assholes. You've got Ramos, who I'm sure is going to try and murder someone again before this tournament ends (although his partner in crime Pepe isn't next to him, so he might have to put in a bit more effort), and the rest of the team, who are a bunch of diving fuckwads.

Now, previously I said repeat passing from CB to LB 200 times. This would actually be 400 times, but Spain spend so much friggin time rolling around on the ground while the few players that can resist doing the same swarm the referee that it's practically half the match. Star struck (or corrupt, it's the UEFA so I wouldn't be surprised) referees actually buy into this shit and thus year in year out you get treated to Spain and Spanish league teams winning competitions by bullshitting their way through. Nothing gets me raging more than thinking of all those unjustified fucking penalties and red cards that have helped Spain along their way.

Then theres stuff like dancing around a member of the losing team taunting them after a match, which is just plain disrespectful. So yeah. They're a bunch of cunts.

EDIT: Also, never forget. Coughing at a member of the Spanish national team = red card, 50 match ban, 2 year prison sentence.
Well I'l agree with you that the passing style of play they have is boring to watch...when it's ineffective. I think when they're on their game they play very good football and are very entertaining to watch. But when they aren't scoring and aren't being clinical with their finishing (see Fernando Torres), I agree with you absolutely. It's frustrating and boring to watch when you, a spectator with no professional experience can see the opportunity for the goal from a TV screen thousands of miles away.

In terms of their players being assholes especially Ramos, I'll agree that he can come off as an asshole. But I think it's more that he has a massive temper and lets it get to him which results in stupid reckless tackles. I generally don't feel like he's being malicious and going in to harm people like Pepé. I just think he gets pissed easily and that causes him to act stupid, and as a defender who's job it is to go in for tackles, that can make him seem like he's out to kill.

As for diving I feel like players like Pedro and Busquets give all Spanish players a bad name in terms of diving. Like Puyol doesn't dive, the guy is a rock. I agree that Pedro and Busquets both have a nasty history of diving like they're at the Olympics but I don't think that generalizing all Spanish players as massive divers is fair. I just think that the second people see any Spanish player dive they immediately think they're like Pedro or Busquets, but then when they see a player like Drogba dive (ex. Barcelona vs Chelsea CL semi-final) they say it was a one off and defend him.

Good job Sweden, a brilliant way to start the Euro Cup.

Jesus christ that was painful to watch. We played like goddamn morons against the team we were most likely to beat. Amazing that Mellberg, a fucking defender, is the one trying to score goals at the end of the game. And Rosenberg should be ashamed for that very blatant dive he made, if you don't want to play football then get the hell off the field.

Also, I'm sorry if I'm offending any Ukraine fans, but damn did your players go down easy. Not all of them, but some of those dives were beyond pathetic. Anyway, good luck Ukraine, you're far more likely to reach the quarterfinals than we are.

Time to make some Englishmen cry.
Apparently not. :p In fairness, France were the better side by quite some margin, dominating possession and keeping us pegged inside our own half for most of the game, most of our players looked to be pretty fatigued around the 70min mark, that right back of yours (I forget his name) was running rings around Ashley Cole and when we weren't giving it away, we also weren't creating much with the possession we did have. Taking some positives away from the performance though; defensively I felt we were solid for most of the game (barring the breakthroughs down the right), the capricious Joleon Lescott surprised me with how well he held the line; forcing Benzema outside the 18 yard box for most of the duration. Danny Welbeck and Oxlade-Chamberlain looked very promising on the rare times they were on the ball and really, I'm pretty satisfied with a draw from this result and it's about what I expected us to get anyway, although in future we'll definately need to be more assertive. Ukraine really surprised me tonight; they passed the ball around quite well, their switch play was impressive threading through some incisive diagonal balls and Shevchenko's movement was excellent, especially for a dude who's about 103, he really did well to exploit the Swede's lackluster defending to head those two home. And while Imbrahimovic may have some impressive control on the ball, he's a lazy bastard and they seem far to dependent on him. So hopefully in spite of their bogey-team status, England will be able to capitalise on what looks to be a rather unnerved Swedish side. :3

On a side note, I can't believe the bloody Danes beat the Dutch. 0_0 Though I suppose they do look pretty strong on the counter attack and they were apparently quite formidable in their qualifying group. Also my condolences to any Irish Escapists reading this, that one was unfortunate. =/

Really? Lescott has been solid at Man City for a while now, although I'm sure Kompany helps.

Didnt really see much of Welbeck, but that's probably no fault of his own, we seemed content to weather whatever the French threw at us 2nd half. Reasonably happy with the draw though.

I think either France or, do I dare say it, Germany will win. (As a Dutchman, saying Germany will win is like heresy).

Of course I hope them Netherlands are going to win it, but we just don't have much luck in tournaments. (And a shaky defense)Though we certainly do have a shot.

And I thought group A was just cannon fodder, but after seeing Russia play I wouldn't put them down just yet. Though I really want Russia to lose, because Advocaat.

Spain has a dominating midfield, but screw Spain. (Yeah, the World cup still kind of stings)

Italy's morale must down the gutter, I imagine. I don't like the Italian team anyway.

That leaves France and Germany for a final showdown of the titans.
I always wanted the Dutch to win a competition, world cup or euro's. Up untill last world cup they always seemed to play well built attractive football but the final in 2010 was just so bad, two of the most fancied teams of the tournament and they decided to just kick the crap out of each other. De Jong was lucky not to be jailed nevermind sent off for his "tackle" on Alonso.

I wish England would win, but i wouldn't put money on it, I think the Germans will win but I hope Ukraine or another underdog team wins, so I can support them after England lose.

Group A at the moment:

Russia 4 points
Czech Republic 3 points
Poland 2 points
Greece 1 point

Poland must beat the Czechs in order to advance and if Greece manages to beat Russia with 2 goals or more Russia will be behind Greece.

What can I say? I love it! Should be two very entertaining games where all 4 teams will be pushing forward.

Massive amounts of drama between Portugal and Denmark...

I'm somewhat annoyed by Christiano Ronaldos inability to find the bloody net, he's in my dream team and he's not pulling his weight at all. Shame Denmark couldn't hold on to the draw though.

Part of me is really looking forward to Netherlands v Germany, but then the sane part of my brain is thinking it's going to be boring as sin.

well that is what happens when denmark are not able to shoot the freaking ball AWAY from the goal. Well, denmarks chances are slim, again, as always.

Ronaldo had a pretty sad game :/ that one chance he had where it was him and the keeper and he put it right at the keeper's hands was pathetic. He finishes that 100% of the time usually but I guess not today. I'm personally pissed that Portugal won. I don't like them at all except for a few players and I like Denmark so I want them to go through the group. Ronaldo's chance in the 78th was also a free goal that he normally scores every time.

I predict 2-1 to Germany against Holland, but I think that whoever wins that game will win the Euro unless Spain really pull their heads out of their asses.

Portugal and Denmark both looked shoddy there. Denmark's defence seemed tired, and Portugal could barely scrape by when Ronaldo didn't show up (and what a shocker he had).

Still, I caught some flak because of my constant mockery of Bendtner. Why can he only play well when I'm trying to insult him...
