Name: David Ashford
Age: 26
Height: 6?4?
Weight: 170 lbs.
Blood Type: A
Character Type: Impact Survivor
Physical Appearance: With the exception of his height, David is entirely unremarkable, just another face in the crowd. A lean build and plain face ensure that very few people ever recall seeing him, when traversing the crowded streets of New Masau.
A shock of well kept, light brown hair, a pair of bespectacled, dull, icy-blue eyes, and a goateed chin dominate his facial features; his extraordinarily average mouth and nose appear to be simply slapped on as an afterthought. When someone takes the time to focus on his features, they quickly note his pale skin, any hint of a tan leeched away by hours spent indoors.
The few people who have seen David?s uncovered body can testify to his somewhat flimsy physique. Thin limbs dangle loosely from bony sockets, ending in a quintet of long digits, a torso lacking any hint of fat is tightly stretched over a clearly displayed ribcage. A spindly neck supports a mid-sized head, the slight bulge of an Adam?s Apple barely visible. Twin towering legs, bifurcated by prominent kneecaps, account for approximately half his height, each supported by a size 11 foot.
However, David?s body is rarely on display; with the exception of his daily showers he?s almost always clothed. If one were to examine his closet, however, they?d be hard pressed to find anything that could be considered casual or relaxing. David is most often seen in one of his dress shirts, a crimson tie typically slung around his neck. Black or khaki slacks, completed by a pair of matching shoes, complete his apparel, as does an appropriately colored suit jacket, when necessary.
Bio/History: David Ashford is a dead man. He may have a pulse, his lungs still work, but rest assured, he is quite dead. Everyone is. But, more on that later.
David?s childhood was fairly normal; raised in Surrey, England, by a loving mother and father. He played with his friends, teased his little sister, explored the countryside, created imaginary worlds, all the things a child should do. Born to a family of strong Protestants, David grew up in the church, spending his Sunday mornings learning about God, the power of His Will, the strength of His Love. From a young age, David was more than happy to embrace these teachings, even if he didn?t fully understand the hidden complexities of his faith. All in all, he led a good, if unremarkable life. He was happy.
Then, everything changed. Then, the Second Impact shuddered throughout the globe. Then, David?s carefully constructed world crumbled around him.
Though England escaped the tidal wrath and climate change brought on by the calamity, the nation was unable to avoid the destructive social shift. As war and conflict began to enshroud the world in a bloody fog, David found himself thrust further and further into isolation. His lifelong home was abandoned, his friends scattered to the winds, his hopes and dreams crushed into oblivion.
His father, a pilot in the RAF, was killed in combat over Pakistan. His mother, once a bastion of strength and morality, turned to drink and despair. His sister, far too young to understand what was happening, was taken in by some government welfare program.
As his entire life was torn to shreds, David clung to two things: His faith, and his books. The first, he turned to out of necessity, out of desperation. Even when life was hell, even when all hope seemed lost, David knew that God was still watching over him, that his life was cared for, that He still had a plan in all this chaos. However, faith didn?t put bread on the table. Books, once portals to other realms of strange beauty and magical adventures, became tools of learning and betterment. Desperately, David devoured any knowledge he could find. If he learned enough, if he became good enough, then there would always be someone who could use him, there would always be some purpose he could serve.
With these twin anchors, his faith and his books, David pulled himself through the hell of the Second Impact. Even when his mother finally succumbed to disease, he kept striding forward, never halting in his quest to reach his full potential. Eventually, he secured a respectable position at some respectable company, putting some small portion of his skills and knowledge to work. It was an unfulfilling life, but it was one that kept him alive. For that, he was thankful. He was? happy.
Then, fifteen years after the Second Impact, a young Japanese boy battled an otherworldly monster to decide the fate of Tokyo-3. Like the rest of the world, David watched in awe as Shinji Ikari battled tooth and nail against the Third Angel. However, while everyone else cheered the youth?s victory, David?s life crumbled around him yet again.
An Angel. A servant of God. A holy messenger. It had descended from the heavens, and attempted to wipe out one of mankind?s last great cities. God wanted man to die. The loving God, the God of peace, of light, of forgiveness that David had always believed in, wanted to wipe away the remnants of mankind. And who was man, to stand in God?s way, to oppose His will?
Every man, woman, and child defiling the Earth with their presence is dead. They still breathe, they still walk, but rest assured they are quite dead. God has declared it. It is Truth.
However, before he dies in this holy plague, in this divine cleansing, David has one last desire: To see the full power of God?s wrath, to watch as His mightiest warriors descend upon the Earth to wipe it clean. The world will burn, and David will praise the God who gives life and takes it away.
David?s goal is to ensure that humanity survives the assaults of the lesser Angels, holding fast until the appointed time, until the final harbinger of destruction alights upon the surface. To reach this goal, he has forced himself to adopt a cold, calculating personality, to become a man willing to do anything and everything to succeed. Money, resources, even human lives mean nothing to him; they are naught but tools.
In order to help guarantee mankind?s temporary survival, David has recently sought a position at NERV. He does not yet know what use they might make of him. Whatever the case, he will do his do all in his power to stand against the Angels, to push them back until the final horsemen swings his scythe. It?s all he has left now.
