I bought saints row 2 because he said it was just about the best game ever and it was basically a big steaming pile of shit. I got bored with repeatedly killing civilians when I was 13 with GTA3 and this is essentially the same thing. I got 1.5 hours in and quit.
You're doing it wrong.

(sorry, I had to)

But seriously, judging a sandbox game based on 90 minutes of interaction is a bit harsh. The game gets ridiculously fun, both main story missions and side missions are equally crazy and entertaining. You're obviously entitled to your own opinion, but you should give it another try sometime if you can.

Then again if you already had a distaste for games like GTA3, maybe it's the genre more than the game itself.
Im pretty sure its the genre. I hated GTA4 even though people said it was great but that might just be because of other reasons. Ya it feels to me that the GTA/SR type sandbox games were fun for me when I was 12 but now I actually want a pretty solid story, and while I like sandbox games like Infamous, I just feel like there's something missing in the saints row and GTA. I feel that those games place more emphasis on destruction and wanton killing more than the actual story and missions. I dunno Im not saying its right but its how I feel so ive pretty much decided to stay away from all games like that.

I enjoy his reviews, but also love jrpg's. I'll let you figure that one out on your own.

Yes; Assassin's Creed II(Well, I was interested anyway, since I'd played the first game, but the review made it final), Call of Duty 4(Would not have got this without his review, but damn, am I glad I did), Fallout 3, Saints Row 2, and Bioshock. Needless to say, I generally trust his judgement.

I buy pretty much every game he likes because the games he likes are generally pretty darn good. Then again I also buy the he doesn't like because I like them too. Like Mirror's Edge, Valkyria Chronicles, FFXIII etc.

When he said that DA:O was basically the holy grail of RPG's for people who like that sort of thing (not a perfect quote) I bought it. Other than that, he's fun to listen to, and if he does review another RPG and has that opinion, I'll probably look into it as well.

Good lord no...
While I find his reviews hi-freakin-larious, he and I obviously have very different criteria for what makes a game 'good' in our eyes.
No big deal.

I will say he has revived my interest in the old Silent Hill games, but then again I was always a fan. He has also gotten me interested in trying Thief one of these days since I can't seem to find a downloadable copy anywhere, well Thief 2 mostly.

As for any of the other games he likes, I've known and liked them all for quite some time now.

Although I hate Saint's Row 2, I mean I hate it with a passion...lol

Oh and, I can care less about Pyschonauts...=)

To some extent. When I picked up Fallout 3, all I could remember from Yahtzee was "...yeah, it's pretty good." I have yet to regret buying that game.

But other than that, I take his reviews with a grain of salt.

Yahtzee's opinions and mine tend to agree on most everything. It's a little freaky. :/ I trust his opinions more than any other reviewer I know because very often I play a game before he reviews it and he echoes exactly what I was thinking while playing it.

It has convinced me to buy Painkiller.

I have to point out, for those people who say that reviewing and stating opinion are different:

There would be no point for more than one person in the world to review a game if they were all facts all the time. Opinion is what drives a review; you should find someone who's reviews and opinions you agree with if you intend to do anything because of them.

Yes. Painkiller. Possibly the best 10 bucks I ever spent.
Damn Straight, exactly the same here. I plan on getting The Orange Box, though not because of ZP, I've wanted it for ages anyway.

Also, I got Thief 2 and Thief: Deadly Shadows, which I enjoyed on Yahtzee's reccomendation.

I bought Fallout 3 after Yahtzee reviewed it, I since thought of Fallout 3 as the best game I ever played.

But mainly, When it comes to his reviews, I usually look at a game and NOT play it based on Yahtzee's reviews, Demon's Souls, Torchlight, and Darksiders are prime examples of games I don't get due to what I learn about them from Yahtzee's reviews.

I think Yatzhee's reviews are more enjoyable if you already have played the game. He lampoons them, and soon I am laughing hysterically at the flaws of even my favorite games.

Most of his reviews are pretty negative, so I haven't bought anything on his recommendation, but that is not to say I wouldn't. Maybe I will try some mentioned here.
