Fans of any genre of music that let it take over their lives.

Seriously. You listen to MF Doom? Cool. That don't make you a real OG.

In the UK we had this big movement of scene, emo, metal kids, e.t.c, who were all so proud of themselves because they were 'individual' and 'non-conformist.' Please. They were all just following the leader like the rest of the country, but their leader wore guyliner.
Rule of thumb to be accepted as a younger person in Britain at the moment disgusts me. Find a genre of music (or a football club) that you like, find people who don't like it, make their life hell. Long live Britannia. So fucking glad I'm old enough to see how dumb we all were back then now.

The Homestuck fandom weirds me out so much. Homestuck is a decent comic/thing, and MSPaintAdventures is a damn good site, but holy crap do they take it too far.

I'm worried many of them may genuinely be insane.

No!!! It was a good 200+ hours put into each character you make when you try to explore as many story elements as possible. For an RPG,which has taken 200+ hours for me to get all the way through all the stages, to end like that, was and is a fucking disgrace. While I draw the line just before the "Retake Mass Effect" thing, every rabid fanboy and girl was totally in the right.
I went into this thread to answer one question, and that question was,

"If someone starts a thread inviting people to criticise other fans of things they happen to like, which Fandom has the thinnest skin and will immediately leap in and defend themselves first?"

Thank you for your meaningful contribution. Congratulations. You've help prove that Mass Effect fans have thinner skins than Sonic the Hedgehog fans.

I think that's a disingenuous way of looking at things, if I think someone's an obnoxious dick it's because they're an obnoxious dick, not because of the media they consume.

MMA Fans, specifically UFC fans. When ever there is a match they'll find something stupid to 'boo' over because they're drunk and there to watch people beat the shit out of each other. I watch MMA for sport of it, the violence is secondary to me in every aspect. I would rather watch Machida/Shogun pick their punches against each other for 20 minutes then watch Leban and Shane Carwin throw the same damn punch over and over again because they've got no idea how to do anything else. Also Brock Lesnar fans can just jump back into their pro-wrestling from whence they came because they're not helping with that in the least. And hopefully with him gone they'll do just that, what a hack that asshole was!

i really get disturbed when fans write or make characters become attracted to the opposite sex or fall in love with there brother/sister/or change gender or whatever when clearly the character is not gay and clearly has a lover already. im have nothing against gay people, its just, i dont know, making a straight character gay just to please you...its creepy. especially the incest. * shudders *

i used to like fan fiction, now its just covered in filth. * sigh *

I find with every fanbase there are nice welcoming people, and then there are opinionated assholes that suck the fun out of things. Of course, they some times get confused by people who complain with legit criticisms.

I can't really think of anything! I'm not a big fan of many things except for MLP. I mean, I enjoy a wide range of media, but I never dive into the fandom of those things. And I honestly don't have any beef with the MLP community, except for the ones that are absolutely batshit crazy and forces it on everyone like the second coming of Christ. Oh, and the idiots/trolls behind the PPPP (they want to edit genitals on the ponies in all the episodes).

Anime fans.

I like anime, I really do, but sometimes the super fans just take it waaay to far!
Basically this for me,I hate the people who treat Japan like some sort of paradise for anime fans where crimes never happen and random hot girls blow you in the street. It's a country like any other and it has it's own problems.

On a more specfic note: Madoka Magika. I thought it was a fine deconstruction when I watched it as it aired.A bit too dark for the sake of being dark and a villain who has no understanding of thermodynamics but a great show none the less. However most of the fandom treats it like the second coming of Christ and refuse to hear anything bad against it.
It's always especially sad when they think they'll somehow "fit in" better if they go to Japan, since they obviously couldn't manage to properly adapt to the society they were born into.

Generally the moment you start identifying yourself at any time as an "XXX fan".

I'll never understand why people pathetically cling to some creator because he has made good things. Last I checked it's his work you're interested in - maybe use some common sense, and judge it on individual worth?

Apparently, one's inability to pay for one's FPS is in direct correlation with one's skill level.
I think it's more jealousy that they paid for this game whereas now Valves just giving it out for free. Despite the fact that paying for the game was money well spent, some people are just twats.

Despite the obligatory 'Mass Effect fans' comment, I'll go with Metal fans. As in the music.

It's incredible how petty they get over genre definitions, and what's 'true metal.' Oh don't get me wrong, I used to be exactly like that, and I guess to a degree I still am (I frequently mock my metalcore friends) but the way some people are, it's hilarious.

This would be my choice. It almost seems like there's too fine a line between "person who likes Anime? and "irritating weaboo".

Or, it could just be that all fandoms promote obnoxious behavior, and Anime just makes things worse because of the subject matter.

Honestly, there are 'extreme fans' for everything.
Yes, but the ratio of "annoying fans" to "normal people" tends to be a lot higher in some fandoms than others.

Definitely Mass Effect. Also, the entire Anime genre as a whole. Crap like Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist have no place being as popular as they are with their convoluted writing, melodramatic narratives, strict adherence to tropes, and generally terrible artwork and animation. Anime was niche, and once held a great deal of promise for a more "grown up" experience, but now it's over-saturated with absolute garbage. Thanks for spoiling that, folks.
