No contest, FFVII

FFVII was literally more instrumental in making me properly literate than school ever was, that and Pokemon, I got red version at like age 6, and FFVII at age 7, the heavy text taught me so much, it was better than any crappy game they make specifically for teaching, hell, I learned a LOT from FFVII, it gave me a massive vocabulary for my age, taught me compass directions, and tons and tons of other things I can't remember now.

My favorites gotta be (In order):

VI

Sorry to all the XII fans but I just hated it :/
Was one of those VI's supposed to be a VII? It better be, and it better be the upper one "Pulls out a butter knife menacingly"

I liked the very first final fantasy the most. If they remade that game with current day technology, and made it look like the newer final fantasy games I would jump through flaming circles to play it. Also I liked 6 and 7 a lot... didn't care for 8 and didn't like any after 10.

What is your favorite FF game?
Mine is XII. Why? Because it finally came up with something refreshing. And yes, Vaan looks like a girl.
You like it because Vaan looks like a girl?

OT: IX, because I really like the ability gaining system, and the combat. The story was also pretty enjoyable.
My main problem with it was that I didn't like a few of the characters, but it was only one or two of them.

I suspect I'm gonna get flamed, but, X. It's one of my favorite games of all time.
No flame, friend, it was a damn good game.

Now if you said "X, because Tidus was the most awesome character I've ever seen in a video game" there would literally be tanks outside of your house.

For the story, I prefer either VII or XII (even though XII is Star Wars).

For actual gameplay, I prefer X.

IX, X, XII, and Tactics

Kind of a small cluster I got, but I haven't played some of the older ones, save for.....damn it, which is the one with the dark knight being your main guy x.x;; (goes to research).

But I loved the characters of IX, every one of them, even the annoying ones were fun to watch. X had the best battle system, kept me drooling from the beginning to end, and I loved Auron and Rikku (yeah, hit me for that). XII had Basch and Balthier (Penelo was great in design, but lacked personality as the other kooky spice girls), and I liked the fighting, though the story for the most part was good, but lacked the extra punch to make me leak out of any orifices. Any boring, 'pumping up' fights were fun, though, as I really needed to switch on the AI for those fights, and just used my controller to aim them at enemies.

Tactics was another favorite, due to the job class, battle system, and any characters that could be named, and the characters you make. Only person I didn't like was Malak, but I can easily ignore him n.n.

I try to ignore the hype for 7, as I...am not as compelled by the game itself.

Although manym people don't I liked 13 because of the combat system.
But my favourite has got to be 7.

Mystic Quest.

Partially because it's fun.

Partially because it's the only one of the Final Fantasy franchise I've actually played.

Mainly because of this.

I loved FFVI - Why? Loved the plot, characters, the music, and who can't love that creepy laugh by Kefka plus his bad ass final boss music/fight on the side. <3 <3 Kefka also succeeded in blowing up the world. Runic Magic was love.
Oh and Don't Tease The Octopus. ^^

VIII

I loved 8 for it's music, and not because of "Eyes on me". I loved "Under Her Control" "Force Your Way" and "Fisherman's Horizon". You can't beat that.

Whilst the Junction System is easily exploitable, it shows flexibility and depth. Besides, if you can discover an imbalance, that's an achievement. Hooray for the people who tinker with every nook and cranny!!

The plot maybe incoherent, but i preferred this "coming of age" like story over the emo-fest that was VII.

Art style is also a winner. Architecture-wise, i'm convinced. From the calm seaside Balamb, to the Paris-like Deling. From the rustic and serene Fisherman's Horizon, to the stunning and exhilarating Esthar.

Technical aspects wise, this is indeed an achievement, a landmark, during the glory days of the PsOne.

Not to mention, Triple Triad was one sweet side quest. Simple, but not dull.

Im not saying that the other FFs are bad, objectively, they might even be better.
But if i have to pick an FF, no an RPG to last me a lifetime, i'll pick Final Fantasy VIII.
It's not the best of all time, but i had the time of my life with FF8, and that's saying something...

Either 7 or 13. I can never remember which.

It was Dirge of Cerberus, and I liked it because there was no turn based combat.

I'm probably in the minority, but my favourite was FF VIII. I loved the battle system, loved the characters and story, and didn't hate the card game after a while. I mean, once you have the character cards, it's just a really quick way to get magic :) Plus, my favourite thing would be the music - I can easily just listen to the OST and get all nostalgic.

My second favourite would be X, but I didn't like the battle system as much - it was very stand-in-a-line-and-wait-for-your-turn.

EDIT: I haven't played FFXIII yet, so you never know...

1) FFX - Really great story, good balance with the combat system.
2) FF8 - I really got into this game despite its many shortcomings!
3) FF13 - Very interesting story and some nice locations.
4) FF7 - As above.
5) FF6 - Again, as above.

Has to be FFVII for me. It was the first one I played; I hadn't even heard of the FF series before that. I've played most of them since. I really enjoyed FFVI and FFX is alright.

FFX
FFXIII
FFIX

Top three right there.

My least favourite:

FFXII, because of the terrible gameplay, story and, most of all, art direction.

Played 8,9,10,10-2,12,Tactics for PS1, playing 13, and watched 7 the entire way through while BF was playing

1st place 8,9,10
very close 2nd pretty much 1st cause I can't choose 10-2 (completion of the best FF "love story")(and it is not dressup! that like saying Tactics was dressup) and 12

Tactics 3rd and 13 well I don't know how i'm gonna rank it cause well don't want to get into it or i'll start ranting
