Well somebody has said Job For A Cowboy already so I feel like less of a poserish br00tal scene kid for recommending that you check out Postmortem Promises, they're br00tal, they've got a wide range of vocal styles are more importantly they've got AWESOME beat downs. I know they're not tr00 death metal but they're still immensely fun.

Black metal, Xasthur and Burzum are both fantastic. Nortt too but his music is sort of a mix of black metal and ambient.

Bah. The best metal band is Rainbow.

Nobody else is as good at singing about wizards.

How can you be metal if you can't even sing about wizards?

Lamb of God are probably my favourite band. Here's some good tracks from Wrath and Scarament to get you started:

Right now, probably Equilibrium lol. It's melodic death metal but folky :)

I just got both The Faceless albums too, not bad but sometimes the songs feel a bit empty.

I'm currently enjoying Napalm Death, Burning Skies, Hail of Bullets, SepticFlesh and The Monolith Deathcult.

Some of my favourites though are Bolt Thrower, Sikth, Hypocrisy, Skinless, Vader and Kataklysm. All recommended.

anyone like alternica anymore?

Edit: as in metallica's transformation
Well Metallica is my favorite band of all time and they are definetally worth listening to but their alternative metal can't compare to their heavier stuff like what was on the black album, which i don't consider to be alternative just heavier and different. Also their speed metal stuff is good check out Kill em All not as good as the black album in my opinion but still it makes you want to Bang your head against the stage like you never did before
Make it ring, make it bleed, make it really sore.

second that.
You should check out Finntroll, a finnish polka/folk/metal band. seriously, they're awesome!
This is their song "Skongens Hämnd" (meaning "The Vengance of the Forest" roughly)

As for traditional black/death metal you should check out the following (recomended song after band name):
Windir - Svartesmeden og Lundamyrstrollet (The best 2nd wave Norwegian BM)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz-U...0115FABB&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=21
Immortal - Sons if Northern Darkness (The kings of Black Metal imo)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMeiUzr0L14

I'll maybe post more later, i can't be arsed right now tbh:)

Disturbed is my favorite band but there more hard rock then metal now. So for just metal id say listen to there firs album The Sickness its not exactly hardcore metal but its the closest thing the band gets to it
