oh and how many people have seen Equilibrium? that always seemed like an under-the-radar cult hit
I am a also a HUGE fan of Memento. best movie ever, IMO

I love all of Kevin Smith's movies. Even more obscure by him would be Chasing Amy, which was excellent.TheGreenManalishi said:Clerks. I'm purty sure that's quite obscure.
No, just fight club. I'm not sure if American Beauty was a book, but it seems like one of those movies that was a book first, alot of intricate imagery and dialogue. Chuck's other books are pretty cool too, if not a little out there. I loved both Lullaby and Choke, both are really demented.Jedoro said:Palahniuk, I believe.mkg said:Hell yea! I think watching Fight Club, then American Beauty, can really make you think about just how unhappy people are in this cage we call society sometimes. My top two favorites, both very insightful and really entertaining to boot. If you ever get a chance to read the book by Chuck Pahliuk (spelling?) I'd highly recommend it.Jedoro said:You know what? I don't care if it qualifies as obscure, but it was weird and fucking awesome.
I've read the book Fight Club, but is American Beauty another of his?
I'm actually annoyed that I haven't gotten to read any more of his books. Friends don't have them, and I've been too poor lately to buy them, with college coming up and whatnot, but I do intend to buy at least Fight Club. That book pretty much changed my life, really. Sadly, I used to be borderline emo (not dressing like them, but the mindset), but after reading that book, it taught me to stop giving a damn, and now I'm so much better off. Crazy, but true.mkg said:No, just fight club. I'm not sure if American Beauty was a book, but it seems like one of those movies that was a book first, alot of intricate imagery and dialogue. Yeah, i believe it's the first in a trilogy that actually includes another movie on this list: "Oldboy" and finishes with "Lady Vengeance". All worth checking out!mkg said:Ya that's the one! I f'ed up the title haven't seen it in a while.Cilliandrew said:Hmm.. is that the same was "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance"? The one with the deaf mute? It was very interesting!mkg said:There's a Korean movie called No Vengeance for Mr. Niceguy or something along those lines, it is all subtitled, but it's one of those movies where everything is gonna end up all fucked up but you hope it isn't because you really feel sorry for the characters, it's a good watch.
Well, maybe more of option number 2. The woman in question was one of my managers, and as things turned out she was looking to hook up. (she was married, though the other day i saw her husband out with another woman, so obviously that relationship broke up!)metalmmaniac said:A) the girl thinks you are a werewolf orCilliandrew said:I once had a girl at work tell me "i watched a movie called "Ginger Snaps" last night, and it made me think of you." I could never figure out what the hell that meant, because A) I'm a dude and B) probably not a werewolf.
Really good movie, though!
Also i desperately want to see "MOON"!
I will throw one out there and see what people think: Danny Boyle's "SUNSHINE". I have yet to meet anyone else who has seen it, yet it's one of the most gorgeous science fiction films i've ever seen.
Anyone else experience that one? Does it qualify as obscure?
B) a horny teenage guy
I have seen Sunshine. I really enjoyed it, but it really just felt like a clone of Event Horizon.
I love "Equilibrium". Good call! That is an underrated gem. Everyone i show it to winds up loving it.metalmmaniac said:oh and how many people have seen Equilibrium? that always seemed like an under-the-radar cult hit

Evil Aliens is brainless fun and had Emily Booth in it.
I wouldn't say quite obscure. I do know some guys who refuse to watch it because it is in black and white. Obscure movie: Goodbye Lenin. I don't know if it's really obscure but I have never heard anyone else mention it. Also A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.TheGreenManalishi said:Clerks. Thanks for giving me a few new Tom Waits related things to look up. Have you ever seen Wristcutters: A Love Story? I had never really seen him act before, but he was really good in that movie. I love me some Tom Waits.GonzoGamer said:Shaun of the Dead isn't obscure, even here in America.
Fifth Element? that was a pretty big film, and my first Blue Ray dvd.
Not really obscure there.
I was watching my favorite obscure film last night:
Tom Wait's Big Time
It's a collection of weird live performances and skits from his 80's "Wild Years" work. Unfortunately the VHS tape went out of production a long time ago and they never released a DVD. You can still catch it on cable sometimes or find a vhs copy used, if your lucky. It's a must see, especially if your a Tom Waits fan: it illustrates why he's one of the best performers of all time.
Speaking of Tom Waits, "Night on Earth" (Waits did an amazing job on the soundtrack) and "Down by Law" are a couple of great Jim Jarmush films that never got the recognition they deserved.
YOU are my new best friendAmrasCalmacil said:Uh... Mirrormask? Or Das Boot, if that counts as obscure, it's probably extremely popular. At least it should be.
Library man, especially if you go to a decent college, you'll find a lot of good literary clubs at some of the bigger schools. The fact that you actually GOT fight club though, besides it just being a cool story, but understanding the emotions that would lead ordinary people to become terrorists, that makes me happy. If you want, I have a good deal of literature about some of lies of this government (USA) and the coming battles we'll face in our lifetimes. If you're interested just let me know. If I can wake even just one person up to the truth then it's worth my time.Jedoro said:I'm actually annoyed that I haven't gotten to read any more of his books. Sure, that would be appreciated. I mean, say I didn't believe what was in those books, it would at least be an interesting read, you know? But I'm not someone who thinks the government tells us everything, so I wouldn't have a hard time believing that they lie to us, either.mkg said:Library man, especially if you go to a decent college, you'll find a lot of good literary clubs at some of the bigger schools.
