Escape from New York was so bad it was funny.

I saw Paprika for the first time this summer. Seems to be obscure anime film. It's pretty awesome.

Mine is "Let the Right One in".

It's a eastern European movie about a psychotic 11 year old boy who makes friends with a 12 year old girl, who happens to be a blood thirsty vampire. Think "Interview with a Vampire" meets a childhood romance, with subtitles and a hell lot of gore. It's a fantastic movie, best thing about Vampires since Buffy the vampire slayer.

Also, notice how you haven't heard of or seen this movie, or if you have, which you haven't, no one else you know has. That makes it obscure. Notice how everyone has heard of or watched "Shaun of the Dead". That's because it's not.

Freddie as F.R.0.7

Absolutely awesome movie.

The most obscure movies in my collection are Jacob's Ladder and Session 9, but it seems the entire internet's heard of them.

So far this thread is mostly well known films, or indie films with a still strong following. I can think of only three movies that could qualify as "obscure" and everyone should see for one reason or another.
1) Hard Candy
2) Requiem for a Dream
3) Elephant

Look them up, watch them. I don't demand you understand them, but they are profound.
Requiem for a dream is a hard one to wrap your head around. It tooke me a few runs to really get it.

My sugestions for great flicks that may be "obscure" have to be Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Jim Carry is awsome in that one. Also Black Sheep is outstanding (Its about zombie sheep. Nuf said)
Eternal Sunshine is very good, but I can't watch it again, as it's soul crushingly depressing.

Also, Black Sheep, not to be confused with the Chris Farley movie of the same name. :p

For me it's either Paschendaele (Not obscure to Canadians, but not seen anywhere else) or Der Untertang(Downfall, a german production and the only thing I was ever happy to watch subtitled).

Isn't that the one that's been re-subtitled numerous times to show Hitler being pissed off at everything from the price of the Nikon D3X to the console wars?

Yes, that is exactly the movie, in it he is actually pissed off because he ordered an attack but the guy who was supposed to do it (Steiner) couldn't get enough troops together do he had to cancel, and that's what the general had to tell him which pissed him off so much. On top of that, those are how I found out about the movie in the first place.

I've been meaning to catch that movie for quite a while now, it's on my to-do list along with hundreds of others!

I love to learn about WWII, I managed to watch the entire World at War series (narrated by Laurence Olivier) in about 5 days..........26 episodes in all!

My favourite obscure movies are:
  • The Butterfly Effect - I've only met 2 people who've heard of it.
    Zombie Strippers
Depends on which Butterfly Effect you are referring to since there is the movie version of the short story, and another who time travels threw the blanks in his memories.

Zombie Stripers is a good bad movie. It is very horrible, but easy to laugh at because of how horrible it is. My personal favorite zombie movie is Zombie Anonymous which is up there with Dead Alive/Brain Dead. Lots of gore and laughs in there.

Hard Candy I have to agree is a good one. Really good, was amazed with that one, though Elephant is tough to find is why it is a bit obscure. It deals with killing of students is why it is tough to find.

One of the few comedies that always makes me laugh at something new every time I see it is Repli-Kate. The movie is just to have the opening line work as a punchline is all.Being able to clone a woman and tech her to be whatever you want is funny as hell.

Saints and Soldiers was quite a good World War 2 movie.
The Woodsman was excelent, if depressing

And I know Leon isn't really obscure, but I don't know anyone else who has seen it.
Saints and Soldiers?
Did that have Mel Gibson in it?

I think I might have it on DVD....
No, I was thinking of this.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373283/

Another that while not obscure, is most definitely wierd, is Brazil.
