Oh great, Atkinson has another excuse, Thanks to her. Cause everyone loves Atkinson. Woo...

Seriously though, saying this is sexual assault is like saying someone committed a hate crime on Saints Row 2 because you and your character is black and someone killed you.

There is a simple way to handle this. Log off. Report him if their is a report button. The guys a douche, he is annoying, but he wasn't sexually assaulting you.

For all the people who say "log off", why should a girl be forced to log off just for existing? A better solution would be to force the harasser to log off, or at least a feature to make the griefer invisible. There are certain times when you're just asking for it, such as when you get epicly maimed in (insert FPS/MMO here), but there are times when you just don't want to put up with harassment. Especially as a girl (or even just a girl avatar), you are that much more likely to have some loser follow you around either trying to hit on you or pretend he's doing something sexual to your image.

This is nowhere near sexual assault, but it is a form of mild sexual harassment. Nothing to sue someone over, but definitely something Sony, and other companies, should look at preventing if they want to build an online social network.

Seriously, this isn't sexual assault. This is some douchebag being an idiot and thinking that he's funny.
Or it's the lashing out of a real-world pervert who can get his fix in a community not yet policed for such crimes.

Seriously, we need some kind of Online Human Rights watchdog group.
Griefers have rights too. Don't discriminate against a culture you don't understand.
Not saying they don't.

But griefing is an act of momentary frustration and rage-inducement that even the victim can laugh about later on.
A virtual re-enactment of sexual assault on a particularly sensitive player (ergo, an actual female) in a virtual space not meant for violent acts (there's no "fragging" in Home, so it isn't a triumphant teabag over your arch-nemesis' corpse; it's civilian) is wholly insensitive as well as inappropriate.
I think even the Gamerverse has certain taboos.

This is why there's no girls in games, they're either constantly bombarded with sexual advances or treated "special" because they're girls.

I say just stop letting anyone below the age of 18 on the internet.

im sorry but this is the most FUNNIEST news story i have ever heard, lol what's next, "10 year old boy raped in teabagging manner on halo 3" tonight on fox.
LOLLERSKATES. It'd be even better if there was an ironic twist, like the boy raping an old man trying out the game for the first time because his grandkids think it's keen.

She deserved it.

Shouldn't have dressed her avatar like such a tramp.
Which is why women are full of it.

You know, there are a sadly large number of guys out there who play with female avatars, for similarly sad reasons. And guess what? They get cyber-raped, too! Women just like complaining about EVERYTHING. We all know it's true. They even complain about our recognition that they complain.

A final thought: Even if you, like me, prefer a mature gaming environment with intelligent players and a thought-provoking story, sometimes it's just plain fun to be a jackass, protected by the anonymity of the internet. This includes removing all in-game clothing and chasing after other characters, male AND female, emoting like a madman.

Welcome to teh Internetz. Your ego and innocent sensibilities must have an AC of 15 or greater to ride.

Is the guy a knob? Absolutely. Should he be sterilized in the name of evolution? Probably.

The problem with the solution of banning the "griefers" is that, if you ban everyone who does something that gets someone else's panties in a bunch, you might as well just shut down the servers. No, I mean all of them.

To illustrate my point: Just imagine Jack Thompson with access to "the button."

Confession of a male mind that has probably been posted here by others after all this is page 14:

I've been on Home only recently. I saw the add for the Sodium game and it looked like fun. I went there and found a few interesting things to do. One of them was the Siren horror house. To get in the best thing to do is sit in front of the receptionist. It gave me the opportunity to look up the skirt of another player.

Was it perverted? Yes it was, but it was merely for the sake of curiosity. Was my offensive nature perceived? No it was not. Was it still offensive? Yes it was, but I didn't realize it until I read what happened in the first post. Am I a horrible person? No, I think what I did was pretty human. However I do regret it.

Chasing a player around knowingly making them feel uncomfortable? That's sick.

the age of people who go on home suggests that most of them will act like retards, just like people on xbox live, if you choose to enter such a place then its your own fault if you run away crying.

WT....? This is what gives girl gamers a bad name. Plus it's insulting and deeming to people who have actually been the victims of sexual assault, so let us look at what the defination of of sexual assault actually is;

Sexual assault is a crime of violence with a sexual nature against another person.

The important word here being person. Your avatar, no matter how real it looks or what James Cameron whould have us belive, it not acually real so can therefore not be the victim of any kind of assault what so ever. The person behind the avatar can, but as the other guy wasn't in the actual physical room with her I think she's safe. I'm not defending what the guy did, but he's obviously an asshat of the first order and should be ignored and propably pitied as well. Plus the banhammer needs to come down on his head with much force.

I disagree with this. Your avatar is a digital extension of yourself to be sure but we cant start confering human emotions and capabilities on them, your avatar is no more capable of sexual assault in say Home than he is of murder in an FPS. Griefing has been around for aslong as multiplayer and so long as people can have anonymity and interaction your going to get assholes. So somebody followed her around and made a crouch gesture, to call it sexual assault to me cheapens the term and is an insult to women who have been sexually assaulted. Imagine this woman showed up at a support meeting and claimed there she had been sexually assaulted the people would be disgusted.
This best sums it up. Good point.

Home really needs moderators. Every time I log on it's filled with retards either doing shit like this, or shouting racist/homophobic slurs. I'll admit, I find some amusement in baiting these morons, but my point stands. Harassing other users is not cool, and moderators who can take action against such behaviour is a must.

shouldn't she make sure her avatar wasn't traumatized by all this, she sure is selfish.

but seriously I think she should get over it, it was probably just an 8 year old kid.

but funny if we are relating gaming to real life I've been born and deflowered a girl in assassins creed 2, I have been raped in san andreas (lol) I'm Joe Satriani and Zakk Wild! *****! and Hayley Williams! sweet! I have tits!...I mean I already had tits but thats different. fuck I must also deserve countless rewards because I've saved the universe countless times and I've been tortured and beaten and killed, I deserve candy.

how do we know he wasn't trying to say hello? it's how dogs do it!

The male roommate is actually the agoraphobe who tried to sue Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, and Blizzard.

No, not really. But he is Luke Skywalker's father.
