The problem here isn't that someone is being a whiny *****, or that people are immature, or even that people get teabagged in halo all the time.

The problem here is that here is a girl who was essentially harrased for the heinous crime of being a A GURL ON TEH INTERNETS. Realistically, weather or not you consider the game world to be "real" or not, no one should be expected to sit and allow someone to harrass them just for existing.

Because in this situation, all she can do is quit. She can't get up and go shoot some guys in the face or make an attempt to redeem herself from the humiliation of being sexually objectified in-game. She has no recourse, except of course, to run away and be properly shamed for attempting to particpate without being a sexual object.

This isn't assault on the level we'd expect in the physical world. Translate these actions to the real world and it IS assault and harrasment. Home is trying to live somewhere between the game world and the real world, which translates this behaviour from "harmless fun" to sexual harrasment.

People of all genders deserve respect, be it online or off.
Yes to everything you just said.

Why is everyone attacking this girl, instead of getting mad at some guy being a douche? There's a whole lot of "she should have just logged off" and not enough "That guy should have stopped being a douche."

I would imagine that someone has already mentioned this, but Penny Arcade beat these two kids to the whole sexual harassment thing quite a while ago...

My home experience.

Made generic avatar with very limited options.
Walked around, got bored.
Unable to bowl as lanes were full.
Was groped by another avatar.
Uninstalled home.
Wondered what the hell Sony was thinking.

Do please note that it isn't the 'female gamer' who's complaining here, it's her white-knighting "can I has sex pl0x" roommate.

"Oh aren't I chivalrous and protective, don't I epitomise all of the masculine traits you might want in a boyfriend."

White-Knighters disgust me. He should go and die in a hole.

*sigh* people i think we have now hit an all time low in the latest line of Stupid things dumb people complain about. A crouch emote really? I mean for the love of god just log out and come back in 20 mins. He'll probably be gone pestering somebody else. Are people really so attached to things like this that they honestly take offense from every online douchebag there is in the world? Girl either needs to come out from the rock she's living under or start doing single player. I swear this generation (which i am a part of) scares me in the downward spiral our collective intelligence is taking.

Can some one kill all these stupid Australian politicians, THEY ARE F***ING ANNOYING, they hype every thing that is against video games, for example this pile of BS, and wont ever SHUT THE F*** UP. Any way, this story should be ignored, completely, you are not being sexually harassed if some one crouches behind you in a virtual world... Grow up.

The secret is to not take it too seriously, and find your own ways to make it fun.

For example, I made my avatar as short and as fat as possible, made his face as rediculous and as emotionless as I could, and gave him a pink mustache and afro.

I then had him do the Running Man in various locations. Occasionally, I would have him point at people while he was dancing. And then there were the chains of people - sometimes over 80 characters long - all doing the Running Man together.

As for people harassing you, simply ignore them, and continue dancing.

Women are so defensive. they believe its not equality unless EVERYONE gets treated well. we treat em all bad we get sexist claims, we treat them right because of this, we get sexual harrasment suits. The Fucking LAW give women special treatment. Also teabagging is everywhere. If men teabag each other, its alright, if women teabag each other its alright, if women teabag men its all right, but GOD FORBID IT'S OTHER WAY AROUND. Gawd Women ruin everything for men.

WOW LOL. Seriously? You know I could say something about being t-bagged in a video game but seeing as it has been pointed out a million and a half times by everyone I will just laugh at a pathetic excuse to get attention, and this pathetic excuse of "sexual assault"

Annoying? Frustrating? Juvenile? Idiotic? Perhaps breaking the TOS?
Absolutely, 100%.

Sexual Assault?
No.

I don't doubt the guy was annoying, and she shouldn't have to quit or log out due to harassment, and obviously Sony needs to do something in terms of moderation of avoidance of these things (I recommend an 'ignore' Feature that makes the offending player and the 'victim' invisible to each other), but to call this 'sexual assault' is a step too far.
This hits the nail on the head in my opinion, and agree that an ignore feature has helped many an online community avoid problems of immature harrassment.

ok.... and?

c'mon please tell me we aren't gamers who actually give two flying shits about what someone elses fucking avatar does?? if you actually do care, log off. then come back two hours later when they are gone. or better yet just leave the avatar where it is and go have you dinner, or watch some tv, or get some sleep.

in fact what the hell are you doing playing a online game anyway if you can't take it when peoople act like dickheads??

OK, I'm sure this was brought out in those 13 pages of posts, but can somebody tell me a logical reason why there is "Female" pointed out in the title? No? I thought so.

This is good for fanboys. "You could tea bag on the xbox first" :D

But this is just silly. You dont file murder charges when your killed in a game, so why file sexual harasment charges for your game avatar.
thats gonna be the next thing it will be something like.....Playing L4D "A HUNTER JUST KILLED ME....CALL THE LAWYERS!!!!!!"

Fcukin rediculous i should be in jail by now tea bagging people on Modern warfare lol
