FF5 best hero: bartz, his optimism makes him impossible to beat.

FF5 best villan: Exdeath, because he could have killed the heros any time and only saw them as annoyances and not a real threat.

FF7 best hero: Zack fair, the only truly great charecter in FF7.

FF7 best villan: Genesis, because he felt more devloped and did more evil during the game.

FF7 worst hero: cloud strife, becaue he felt like a 2-dimensional charecter who needed some anti crazy pills.

FF7 worst villan: sephiroth: because he's a over hyped villan who did almost nothing during the corse of the game.

FF9 best hero: Zidane, he's what made me like the theif class.

FF9 best villan: kuja, because he was a well written charecter who unfortunately was not a very good boss fight.

FF9 worst hero: amarant, because he seemed like a tacked on charecter.

FF9 worst villan: queen brahne, she gave me nightmares.

Best
Tidus from FFX: I know lots of people are annoyed by his personality, but I liked him because he was the first character in Final Fantasy series that I found any sense of three dimensional personality. With some serious psychological issues and conflicting mind, he was able to pull off a sympathetic character without using angst as main weapon.

Auron from FFX: to put it simply, the-single-most-badass-character-in-final-fantasy-history would be my perspective on him. He uses his booze to set flames on a tornado that he makes with his sword. not to mention his booze is magical and can summon balls of magic if used correctly with his sword.

Zell from FFVIII: only because he reminds me of my dear old friend. I'd still say he's batshit insane.

Worst:
I don't really have a particular character that I hate, but there are some aspects of some character that bothers me

Cloud from FFVII: I honestly can't sympathize with him. By his personality or lack there of, I am aware that this is a character I should show some pity towards. With all the dark history and whatnot. I think the way they presented the character in the game was the problem. I still haven't finished the game, but with this note, I probably should.

Cat sith from FFVII: a cat is on a plushy doll of a moogle yelling orders to it with megaphone. I think I lost my mind

Riona (I think that was her name) from FFVIII: She definitely had dad issues as a kid...

Favorites:
Auron (Bad. Ass.)
Squall ('cause Gunblades are cool)
Dr. Cid (hilarious villain; "The reigns of history back in the hands of Man." is actually a respectable goal, all things considered)

Honorable Mention: "It is I, Gilgamesh!" The only time I would describe anyone as being "made of win" lol

Least Favorites:
Sephiroth (WAY too overrated, the "I Hate It Because of How You Love It" or the "Twilight" syndrome)
Paine ('cause she represents all that is unholy and wrong, a.k.a. FFX-2)

(Un)honorable mention: Seymour (disqualified because that's how your suppose to react to him)
Fly fly I said Fly!!

Gilgamesh was prob my most memorable WTF moments in gaming, then I found out it was John Di Maggio (aka Bender) that voiced him and my brain exploded.

OT: I would prob say my top 3 (as lets face it, we all have more than one favourite FF character) would be Yuffie (her 4xcut attack and mug was awesome) Red xiii, although is backstory was alittle weird, though prob reading into the human grampa thing abit to much...maybe we thought he was getting a nice kitten as a pet to keep him company in his old age, which grew up to be a tiger than attacks up with pins, clips and combs rather than his fucking teeth... and good old clod *ironic mis-spelling intended*

Worst for me would be Quina, Cait Sith, Kimahri

I dont know why but I never got on with those characters, and while I saw the potential in there common ability of Blu magic, I just couldnt be arsed with it

worst Villian-Sin from FFX because it's just a thing with no real motivation...
Not really, and he wasn't even really the villain.
Sin was actual the result of the last ditch effort by Yu Yevon to defeat his enemies and pretty much unite Spira. He created it to go on a rampage, destroying his enemies "because they used machina." Then he developed a way to temporarily defeat it, so the people would come to depend on him for when it returned. He ended up manipulating the entire world through the beast, creating a religion that would use people's fear to manipulate them. As the cycle repeated itself, more people came to need the church, meaning that Yu Yevon had effectively made it so that the more it went on, the more the people were controlled. Also, we learn that machina could actually be used to defeat sin, but because it came so unexpectedly, and due to the people's perpetual fear afterwards, no one wanted to use it. However, what makes it such a great monster is that to defeat it, two people must die, and they know it. The Summoner and whoever they pick, and by that time, most likely the Guardian will have become their best friend. And even then, that person then gets to be trapped as Sin, forced to be the thing they spent their journey trying to stop. I'd say it's one of the sadder of the "villains" in the FF world

Wouldn't a villain who gives you nightmares be a good villain? j/k

Is that best or worse, by the way?

OT: Inb4 Cloud and Tidus as worst.

Uhh...Pretty much all the FF XIII as the best. They're all just so likeable, even Snow.
Foir worst, probably Aeris as she was known on my copy of FF VII. Maybe because she was there basically, for me at least, plot. A decent healer, yes but that's all really.

Double edit: Finished post and was ninja'd by an edit.
I guess I'm the only one who liked Tidus, but I agree on Cloud being a terrible character and XIII having the best characters.

At first, I hated most of them besides Sazh of course but I grew to like all of them, even Lightning whom I hated as much as Cloud when I started the game.

But if I had to choose a single best and worst;

Fang/Sazh (best)
Cloud/Aeris (worst)

She doesn't give me nightmares in a good way she gives me nightmares because of how ugly she is.

Favorites: Mog from III (not calling it VI) is my favorite final fantasy character of all time. I'd always just give him an equalizer and jewel box and let him kill everything with x-magic. I know he's in the others, but it always just feels like a watered down version.
Sephiroth is my favorite baddy purely because...

Worst: Aeris, killed by Sephiroth, whom I felt oscillated between boring and annoying.
Honorable mention to the entire cast of X. Especially when they felt the need to laugh.

Edit: Kupo, bitches!!!

Best is probably Freya from IX. I like the dragoon thing, I like her 'lost love' sort of story, and I like the 'rat person' race.

Worst, I would probably have to go with Titus from X. He whines the whole way through the game, and is an all around unlikable character, IMO.

Although I'm not very far into XIII, one of them may usurp Titus.

Quina (FFIX)- lamest character ever, never served any purpose in the game just creeped you out

Setzer (FFVI) - one of the coolest characters ever, from his owning the Blackjack, then the Falcon from his deceased friend, the whole opera house scene with his obsession for Maria and his Slot special attack.

The characters from final fantasy 1, because they have any personality you want.

But for real i would have to say favorite has to be Edgar or Sabin from FFVI, they were great comedic relief at times.

I like Basch. He's pretty cool, what with the tragic past and the fact that (if you ask me) he was the real main character of Final Fantasy XII (except for perhaps Ashe). I also like Vincent Valentine, because he has cool character design and I like his Limit Breaks. But I hate Yuffie. Steal my materia, will you? And then I have to fight a crazy-hard boss to save you! Although if I let you die, I suppose I'd never get my materia back, would I?

I actually would have like Basch if not for one thing: Evil f*cking twin... Really? Do you not respect me 12 or do you just seriously think that's a good idea?

My favourite? Those two fucking clowns from Final Fantasy IX who keep repeating each other.

I also quite like Lulu from X (the little I saw of her anyway).

The worst? Vaan from XII.
